STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

I have always considered the willingness of an individual to work hard, go the extra mile
to achieve the goal and constantly hone the skills the most desirable virtue of a person. Hence, I
have constantly tried to inculcate this value in myself even for my schooling. Through my
incessant endeavors to learn new things, acquire novel skills and better myself holistically, I have
understood that I have much to learn and grounds to cover. However, I discern that only when
we challenge and push ourselves to newer pastures where the tides are different can we
constantly learn and become better. It is with this realization to fortify myself with impeccable
pragmatic and pedagogic insights in computer science that I seek admission to the master
program in Computer Science from University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland, United
States.
Even in my high school studies I was so much interested in computer science related courses
especially in information technology which help me develop several skills like coding. This was
one of the major reasons I took computer engineering in my under graduate course. At the under
graduate course, I was introduced to a range of newer subjects such as data structures,
algorithms, and a range of programming languages. The more I learned about these subjects the
more I become fascinated about doing my master’s program in computer science will help me
learn more about the same and immensely nurture my skills in the field of computer science. In
addition to this, for my country Ethiopia I plan to contribute more specially in the sector of
information and technology I will minimize the technological backwardness and enhance the
infrastructures related with the sector so as to bring advancement in technology.
USA is definitely the most desired destination for students from across the world owing to a
number of reasons such as the quality of the education system, impeccable academic and
research infrastructure capabilities and the availability of exceptionally valuable internship
opportunities. It was natural for me to seek to pursue my master’s program in computer science
form the US, one of the best education systems in the world. Since my country Ethiopia is a
developing country, I was having financial difficulties to get a great quality of education in my
interest. So, if university of Maryland become the one to fulfill my dreams in the way of offering
me with great education in my interest then I will certainly enhance technological advancements
in my country Ethiopia and make it one of the well-developed countries.
In my academic years starting from childhood, I have toiled to be a great student who came at
best in school. I was well behaved both in the society and in academic environment. I have also
been a responsible student who has done well in my exams, home works and submitted my
projects on time. So, by this knowledges and skills I have, I can for sure advance the
technological advancements of University of Maryland. The great and vast opportunity in
University of Maryland will make me motivated to solve several problems both for the
institution and my country. Additionally, if I got admitted to University of Maryland, I will
share my culture and beliefs with students and the community since I was born and lived in
Ethiopia.
I am sure and fully confident that my goal to be part of University of Maryland’s community
will be achieved soon then I will use my full potential and score great results and make
University of Maryland proud of admitting me.
