Nyaya Bandhu (Pro Bono Legal Services) Programme

Sh. Ravi Shankar Prasad, former Minister for Law & Justice, launched the Pro bono
legal services scheme in April 2017. It aims to integrate the law students from various
universities across the country for bettering the efficiency and quality of Pro Bono legal
services. It helps in enhancing ‘access to justice’ for marginalized sections and fulfils the
constitutional mandate to provide ‘free legal aid’ to all.

Pro Bono Club, J.M.I.

Here, selected law students (known as ‘Pro Bono Associates’ or PBA) are part of Pro
Bono clubs attached to law schools. Pursuant to this, the Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia
Islamia has been integrated under NAYAYA BANDU (Pro Bono legal services)
PROGRAMME by the Ministry of Justice, Government of India.
The Pro Bono Club of Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia is organizing a virtual
Quiz Competition on Theme- Tracing the legacy of Pro Bono services in India to
increase awareness among the students about the concept of Pro Bono. This would
assist in acquainting the budding lawyers with the basics of Pro Bono legal services by
encouraging them to research on themes revolving around pro bono jurisprudence and
functioning in India. It would help students improve their reading, writing, and
researching skills. We wish to provide a platform to understand and appreciate the
underlying concept of pro-bono legal framework in India.
