Introduction
Part A
1.  Male 8 months months-arrival in a daycare setting with 8 infants today. (6 weeks
to 13 months) I observed the classroom for 30 minutes.
2.  Mom carries son on her hip while the child has his head resting on her shoulder.
When the door opens the child lifts his head and looks around the room. The teacher
approaches and the child smiles and begins to make babbling noises. The teacher says
“Good morning M…, How are you doing mister? Are you ready for today?” She holds
her hands open in front of her. The child leans forward quickly towards the teacher.
When he is on her hip, he lays his head on the teacher’s shoulder. The teacher states,
“Are you a sleepy boy?” The mom says, “Yes, he didn’t want to sleep on the way over
and has been up all night.” The mother kisses the baby’s head and says, “Have a great
day buddy.” She turns to the classroom and says, “Have a great day ladies, thank you.”
The teacher carries the child towards the rocking chair, and says, “Are you ready to
snuggle before your nap?” she sits the child the child in her lap. The child stares and
grabs at the teachers face while laughing and babbling. The teacher laughs and holds
the child’s hands and says, “Wait, you can’t get my face. That’s my face.” The teacher
lets his hands go the child repeats the process as both begin to laugh. After a few
moments more of play, he teacher hugs the baby and he places his head down facing
away from the teachers face. She begins to rock the chair and rub his back in a circular
motion with a few softs pats every so often. The child adjusts his head turning his face
into the teacher’s neck and puts his hand on the teacher’s opposite shoulder. The
teacher begins to hum while rubbing the child’s back. They rock for about 7 minutes
until the child falls asleep. The teacher slowly rises with the child in her arms, walks to
the child’s crib and places him inside on his back. The teacher rubs across the baby’s
forehead and walks away.

Part B - Base the following answers on your objective observation (Part A/2) of the
child’s interaction with their parent.  (This is your interpretation of the objective
observation.)

1.   The child is actively showing signs of affection with parent by snuggling and holding
on to the parent.

2.    The parent holds the child close with her hand on the child. She kisses the child
goodbye when leaving him.

3. The caregiver doesn’t immediately grab the child from his mother. She greets him
then leaves her arms open for the child to initiate contact. Teacher has a conversation
with mom about the child as well, creating an open dialogue between the two.

4.    There seems to be a connection with mom and the teachers since mom was
smiling and speaking in a respectful manner to the teachers.

Part C - Base your answers on your objective observation (Part A/2) of the child’s
interaction with the caregiver.  (This is your interpretation of the objective observation.)

1.     He responded with more animation when the caregiver began speaking to him. He
actively showed affection by holding the teacher and laying his head on her shoulder.

2.   The teacher was respectful in her approach to the initial contact by leaving her arms
open to the child to initiate. She informed him about what was coming next. (snuggling
before bed.) She gave the child her undivided attention when playing and then rocking
the child to sleep.

Part D

1.    The interaction between the parent/child, teacher/child and parent/teacher seemed
like a connection has been made between everyone showing a level of respect and
trust all around.

2. Just continuing to have open communication during drop off and picks to further the
trust and connection between everyone.
