A. Readings/Discussions

Good readers use different ways to know unfamiliar words


when reading. They also use different ways to answer questions.
Using pictures is one of the ways that can help you understand
better what you are reading. Using pictures is also a way that can
help you in answering questions. In this lesson, you are tasked to use
picture clues to test how well you can answer questions, clarify
understanding, and justify predictions.

Before you start, remember the following clues in answering
questions:

1. When the question starts with who, the answer is a person or an


animal.
Example: Who is your mother?
Answer: My mother is Sally Fernandez. (person)

2. When a question starts with what, the answer is a thing or a


happening.
Example Number 1: What is in your bag?
Answer: A pen is in my bag. (thing)
Example Number 2: What happened yesterday?
Answer: It was my birthday yesterday. (happening)

3. When a question starts with when, the answer is time, day,


week, month, year or season.
Example: When did mother bake a cake?
Answer: Mother baked a cake yesterday. (day)

4. When a question starts with how, the answer is a way to do


something.
Example: How did your mother bake a cake?
Answer: She baked the cake by following the steps in
baking a cake. (way of doing)

5. When a question starts with why, the answer is a reason or


cause.
Example: Why did your mother bake a cake?
Answer: My mother baked a cake because it was my
birthday. (reason)

answer questions using the picture clue.

(Answer: Father put on a big umbrella because it is hot
and they want a shade.)
6. How do Celia and Kevin enjoy themselves?
(Answer: Celia and Kevin enjoy themselves by making a
sand castle.)
