PRACTICE SET 9

1. It is currently 7:00 PM. What time (in AM or PM) will it be in 1000 hours?
Answer: 11:00 AM
Given:
1000 hours * (1day/24hours)

= 41 days & 16 hours

We can disregard the 41 days and add to the 7:00 PM the 16-hour fraction of the 42nd day.

7:00 PM + 16 hours

Correct Answer: 11:00 AM

2. Elisa is excited for her birthday party on Saturday, March 3, 2018. She is turning 16 years
old. What day of the week was Elisa born?

Answer: Sunday is the day of the week when Elisa is born.

Elisa's 16th birthday is on Saturday, March 3, 2018.

Meaning she was born on 3rd March, 2002.

Between 2002 and 2018, there are 4 leap years and 12 non-leap years.

So, in the 16 years since being born, her birthday would have shifted by (4*2) +(12*1) = 20 days

Had it been 21 days (full weeks + no remainder), we would've concluded that she was born on
Saturday itself. But, 20/7 leaves remainder 6. And Saturday + 6 days = Sunday.

So, we can conclude that she was born on a Sunday.

3. Richard went to the movies nine days ago. If Thursdays are the only day of the week that
Richard goes to movies, then what day of the week is today?

Answer: Saturday

Clearly, Nine days ago, it was Thursday.

Number of odd days in 9 days = 2 (As 9 - 7 = 2, reduced perfect multiple of 7 from total days)
Thursday + 2 days = Saturday

Hence required answer is Saturday.

4. You have to take a medication every 6 hours for 5 days starting at 7 A.M. Explain why
you will never have to take medication between 2 A.M. and 6 A.M.

Answer:

24/6 = 4 means 4 times a day hence 24/6 is correct

7AM + 6hrs = 1PM

1PM + 6hrs = 7PM

7PM + 6hrs = 1AM

1AM + 6hrs = 7AM

Explain:
You are prescribed medicines to be taken at 7AM in every 6 hours, therefore, you
won’t have to take medicines between 2AM-6AM since the 6hrs gap prescription does not
fall under those times and is a loop for 5 days.
