INTRODUCTION
 “TREAD CYCLE “ – combination of treadmill and bicycle
 Exercise is a bodily activity that enhances or maintains physical
fitness and overall health and wellness.
 In order to say fit and healthy people often perform various
exercise, one of the most important type of exercise is a jogging or
running on a treadmill
 Treadmill in gym is stationary. Using treadmill on same place
without any exposure to natural atmosphere is getting bored.
 Also for travelling for small distance use of fueled vehicle will
cause unnecessary fuel consumption and pollution.
 The main objective of this project is to bring an alternative for such
problem
 This can be done by modifying a bicycle with placing a tredmill
between two wheels.
 Human effort is the basic fundamental source through which the
cycle runs and alternative power is provided to wheel through
motor.
COMPONENTS
The major components that are involved in the fabrication of the
treadmill cycle are as follows.
• Conveyor belt,
• Frame,
• Wheels,
• Bearings,
• Set of gears,
• Handle,
• Rollers,
• Chain Sprocket,
• Battery,
• Solar Panel,
• Hub Motor.
Solar panel
A solar cell works on the principle of photo-voltaic principle, the photo-
voltaic solar energy conversion is one of the most attractive non-
conventional energy sources of proven reliability from the micro to the
Mega watt level. In actual usage, solar cells are interconnected in a
certain series and parallel combinations to from modules. These modules
are hermetically sealed for production against corrosion, moisture,
pollution and weathering combination of suitable modules constitutes on
array. One square meter of fixed array kept facing south yields nearly
0.5 kWh of electrical energy on a normal sunny day if the orientation of
the array is adjusted to face the sun’s rays a any time, the output can
increase by 30% solar PV system can produce on output only if sunlight
is present. If it is required to be used during non-sunshine hours suitable
system of storage batteries will be required. There may be tracking
arrays or modules or fixed arrays. A tracking array is defined as one,
which is always kept mechanically perpendicular to the sun array line so
that all times it intercepts the maximum insulation. Such arrays must be
physically movable by a suitable prime mover and are generally,
considerably more complex than fixed array.
Battery
In isolated systems away from the grid, batteries are used for storage of
excess solar energy converted into electrical energy. The only
exceptions are isolated sunshine load such as irrigation pumps or
drinking water supplies for storage. In fact for small units with output
less than one kilowatt. Batteries seem to be the only technically and
economically available storage means. Since both the photo-voltaic
system and batteries are high in capital costs. It is necessary that the
overall system be optimized with respect to available energy and local
demand pattern. Where high values of load current are necessary, the
lead-acid cell is the type most commonly used. The electrolyte is a dilute
solution of sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄). In the application of battery power to
start the engine in an auto mobile, for example, the load current to the
starter motor is typically 200 to 400A. One cell has a nominal output of
2.1V, but lead-acid cells are often used in a series combination of three
for a 6-V battery and six for a 12-V battery
Conveyor belt
A belt conveyor system is one of many types of conveyor systems. A
belt conveyor system consists of two or more pulleys (sometimes
referred to as drums), with an endless loop of carrying medium-the
conveyor belt-that rotates about them. One or both of the pulleys are
powered, moving the belt and the material on the belt forward. The
powered pulley is called the drive pulley while the unpowered pulley is
called the idler pulley. Today there are different types of conveyor belts
that have been created for conveying different kinds of material
available in PVC and rubber materials. The belt consists of one or more
layers of material. Many belts in general material handling have two
layers. An under layer of material to provide linear strength and shape
called a carcass and an over layer called the cover.

Frame
Frame stand is made up of mild steel material. The whole above
mentioned parts are fixed in to this frame stand with a suitable
arrangement.
Wheel
A wheel is a circular component that is intended to rotate on an axle
bearing. The wheel is one of the main components of the bucket wheel
excavator, which is one of the largest machines. Wheels, in conjunction
with axles, allow heavy objects to be moved easily facilitating
movement or transportation while supporting a load, or performing
labour in machines. Common examples are found in transport
applications. A wheel greatly reduces friction by facilitating motion by
rolling together with the use of axles.

Bearing
The bearings are pressed smoothly to fit into the shafts because if
hammered the bearing may develop cracks. Bearing is made up of steel
material and bearing cap is mild steel. A ball bearing usually consists of
four parts: an inner ring, an outer ring, the balls and the cage or
separator. To increase the contact area and permit larger loads to be
carried, the balls run in curvilinear grooves in the rings. The radius of
the groove is slightly larger than the radius of the ball, and a very slight
amount of radial play must be provided. The bearing is thus permitted to
adjust itself to small amounts of angular misalignment between the
assembled shaft and mounting.

Gears
Gears are commonly used to transmit rotational motion between
machinery shafts. When gears of different types and sizes are combined,
they can change the rate of rotation, the direction of the axis of rotation,
and change rotary motion to linear motion.

Rollers
The rollers are used for rolling action of the conveyor belt. The roller is
placed at the both ends of the machine and the conveyor belt passess
over the rollers. Conveyor belt is held under tension so that the belt
doesn’t slip off the rollers suitable arrangement for transmitting the
motion of the belt to the wheels which in turn makes the wheels top
move.
Sprocket
A sprocket or sprocket wheel is a profiled wheel which has teeth, cogs,
or even sprockets that mesh with a chain, track or other perforated or
indented material. The name 'sprocket' applies usually to any wheel
upon which radial projections retain a chain passing over it. It is
different from a gear in that sprockets are never conjugated together
directly, and differs from a pulley, in that sprockets which has teeth and
pulleys are smooth.

WORKING
 User will jog or run on treadmill, accordingly due to this effort the
treadmill belt will actuate which will rotaye the rollers.
 Sensors are connected to rollers, sensors senses the motion of the
rollers and sends the signal to the programmed board.
 The board then actuates the motor, which is connected to the
wheel.
 Solar PV panels are connected to the motor, the power generated
by the solar panels is used to drive the motor.
 Motor will act as a drive to the bicycle, as the motor runs the
bicycle will start to move.
 Thus, the effort of human is converted into motion of bicycle.

OBJECTIVES
 Through solar powered electrical assistance it takes a very
minimal effort to walk than ”a walk in park”.
 By this the rise in pollution can be greatly minimized and also
make people exercise while they travel to various destinations.
 It totally works on the non conventional energy source.
 Allover the main objective of this project of this projects is to
build a vehicle that is faster than walking and easier to ride than a
bicycle.

EXPERIMENTAL DETAIL
 Here our concept is to make the product which is completely
depends on muscle power or purely mechanical.
 The treadmill belt moves when someone walks, it rotates the roller.
 The rear wheel is connected to roller via chain and sprocket thus
the wheel rotates.
 By using suitable gears the speed is increased.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES
 Solar powerd treadmill bicycle is modification of existing walking
bicycle.
 In this we have made a shear modification of treadmill and cycle
running through solar assist energy, which is non-conventional and
renewable energy.
 It has also played a predominant role in global warming and a;lso
took up some part in fuel less transportation method.
 It is completely eco-friendly and emission free with no running
cost and less maintenance.
 This cycle can be an adaptable mode of transportation for rural and
urban areas.

Future scope
Solar powered treadmill bicycle is modification of existing walking
bicycle. As we all know a manual treadmill does not consume any
electricity, thus using treadmill and some arrangements of gears and
chain drive, we make a treadmill bicycle. With a less effort this bicycle
can be drive as well as a new format of the bicycle design can be
launched in the market for exercise with cleaning. As the user walk on
the treadmill the belt moves to the rear side and rotates rollers of
treadmill which gives the starting torque. Gear assembly is connected
with roller shaft by which whole assembly get sufficient torque and
moves treadmill ahead. Brake system is provided for speed control.
Treadmill walking platform is slightly inclined for better torque. This
inclination is done by different diameter of front wheel and rear wheel or
framing arrangement. It can be used as an indoor locomotive device
infrastructure with large roof span i.e. malls, warehouse, open markets,
large office spaces, etc.
1. By using such product pedestrian cops can save themselves from
getting exhausted.
2. Pedestrians in large campuses can benefits from this product the
same way.
3. Can replace cycle as an energy efficient vehicle for those who
cannot drive a cycle.
4. In this we have made a shear modification of treadmill and cycle
running through solar assisted energy, which is a non-conventional and
renewable energy.

Literature review
 There has been great deal of research on this treadmill bicycle
fabrication.
 At the late first century AD roman empire introduced the first
treadmill, as they need to lift heavy weight they incorporate this
new invention
 Nicholas potter also worked on this field and invented a treadmill
which is powered by animal and reduced human effort with more
output.
 He invented “dog power treadmill” to tackle domestic work and
produced rotary and reciprocating motion for use with light
machinery
CONCLUSION
 Concept is designed and fabricated.
 Testing and analysis of project was successful with expected result.
 It is founded that riding in hilly areas is difficult & it can be
rectified by implementing electrical motor or gear system.
 Using this we could able to burn more calorie than convectional
bicycles.
