Chisholm believes that guidance seeks to help individual become familiar with facts about
himself or herself – interests, abilities, previous development and plans which is further parallel
to Traxler’s who says that guidance enables individual to understand and recognize their interest,
and abilities.
2. One essential element of G. Loughran’s definition of guidance is stated as “A wise
decision depends on knowledge, not just of the here and now, but of the possibility for
the future.”. How can you help the individual understand, accept and develop his true
own potentialities?
G. Loughran’s stated some phrases which means that an individual must be guided to choose a
better career path that enables a person to live accordingly. Further, guidance counsellor helps to
assess a child to create a great path that suits within his or her capabilities, skills, abilities and
aptitudes that assist the development of an individual.
Todays, a child learn little by little and people who involved in the development of the individual
may have huge impact in assessing the capabilities of a child. For an instance, a child who enters
elementary to secondary has a great achievement academically especially in analytical thinking.
Thus, a guidance councilor will recommend a course for that individual that aids him for the
future such as engineering courses.
Therefore, “A wise decision depends upon knowledge, not here and now, but the possibility of
the future.” Says that’s knowledge assist individuals to foresee things that can possibly he
become through the aids of a guidance counselor to better choose wisely against his future that
will succor his living.
