1.0 Brief Introduction-

“State A General IE Rule For Wiring Installation With Their

Explaination”.
Indian Electricity Rules or “I.E. Rules” means the Indian Electricity Rules, 1956, to the extent saved by the
Act or the rules made under the Act there after. Before any conductor or apparatus is handled, adequate
precautions shall be taken, by earthing or other suitable means, to discharge electrically such conductor or
apparatus. No person shall work on live electric supply line or apparatus, unless authorized in that behalf.

Electricity Rules in India were first made by the Central Electricity Board in exercise of powers conferred
under the Indian Electricity Act, 1910. These rules have been retained in the Electricity Act, 2003 and will
continue to be in force until the regulations/rules under Section 53 of the Electricity Act, 2003 are framed.
Where an installation is already connected to the supply system of the supplier, every such installation
shall be periodically inspected and tested at intervals not exceeding five years either by the Inspector or
any officer appointed to assist the Inspector There are 143 rules in all and we discuss the relevant ones in
brief.
