PROCEDURES FOR TEACHERS

I. WARM-UP (10 mins.)


A. The teacher greets the students and starts the lesson when all students join the Zoom session.
After that the teacher shares his/her screen and shows an extract from the famous play Macbeth
by William Shakespeare. Then, he/she asks students to read the extract in 3 minutes.
B. After students finish reading, the teacher explains the genre of the Macbeth and asks the
students to guess what might happen in the play. Then, some of the students share their ideas
about Macbeth and the teacher continue with the next activity.

II. READING THE PLAY (22 mins.)


A. (Increasing Language Awareness) Students compare two extracts of Macbeth, one of them is -
the original of the play and the other one is a version of it written in modern English in groups of
three. They try to detect differences in grammar and vocabulary, and the effects caused by these.
To finish their discussion in breakout rooms, they have 7 minutes, and they choose one
spokesperson. After they return to the main session, students share their opinions with the rest of
the class. (12 mins.)
B. (Practicing Oral Skills) Teacher asks students to mark out the same text for word stress and
sentence stress. Then, the teacher wants them to read it aloud by paying special attention to its
emotional meaning. (10 mins.)
III. FOLLOW-UP (13 mins.)
A. The teacher plays students three short pieces of music. Then, he/she sends them to the
breakout rooms, he/she shares the links of the sounds, and they decide which one they would
choose as their 'theme tune' if they were filming the extract from the play. Then, they choose their
spokesperson in the breakout rooms. After that, the students return to the main session and share
their ideas and discuss with the rest of the class. (13 mins.)

A. You are going to read this modern version of an extract from the play Macbeth by William
Shakespeare. As you can see on the screen, there is a dialogue between Macbeth and Lady
Macbeth. You have 3 minutes to read it.

B. After you read, you are going to try to guess what might be happening in the play. Please
share your ideas with the rest of the class.

II. READING THE PLAY (22 mins.)

written in non-contemporary and modern English on the screen. You will work as a group of
three in the breakout rooms. Please, try to identify the differences between these two versions in
terms of vocabulary and grammar. You have 10 minutes in the breakout rooms, and you should
choose one spokesperson to express your ideas. After you finish your discussion, you will share
your thoughts with the rest of the class. (12 mins.)

B. (Practicing Oral Skills) In this activity, you will read the same and modern extract from
Macbeth. Now, please read it and mark out the text for word stress and sentence stress. After

you finish your reading, you will read it aloud. However, you should pay attention to the
emotional meanings of words and sentences. (10 mins.)

III.FOLLOW-UP (13 mins.)

A. Now, please listen to these three short pieces of music and in breakout rooms, decide which
one you would choose as your 'theme tune' if you were filming the extract from the play. When
you decide, please choose a spokesperson, and turn back to the main session and share your
thoughts with the rest of the class.
