A SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 5

I. Lesson Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to;
a. identify easily the meaning of verbs;
b. construct correctly sentences using the given verbs; and
c. appreciate and understand positively the use of verbs.

I. Subject Matter
a. Topic: Verbs (Action Words)

c. Year Level: Grade 5
d. Materials: Ball, Instructional materials, Pictures, Activity sheets, Flashcards,
Marker

II. Lesson Proper


A. Classroom Routine
a. Prayer
- The teacher shall request one student to lead the prayer.
b. Attendance
- The teacher shall request the secretary of the classroom to check the
attendance.
c. Recapitulation
- The teacher will ask a volunteer from the students who can recap the past
lesson that they have discussed last meeting.
- The student will narrate their past lesson regarding the topic noun.
d. Motivation
- The teacher will let the pupils play the game. “Touch the fireball.” The
teacher will play a nursery rhyme and the pupils will pass the ball to their
classmates. The pupil holding the ball will tear off a piece of paper as the
rhyme comes to an end, then will perform in front of the class what is
written on it. The rest of the class will guess the action of their classmate.

B. Lesson Proper
a. Activity
- The teacher will group the class into two (2). The teacher will post two (2)
sets of pictures and sentences on the board. She will then call
representatives from each group to identify and match the posted pictures
and sentences.

b. Analysis
- The teacher will ask the students of what they have notice in the pictures
and sentences.
- The students will figure out what part of speech they are performing.

c. Abstraction
- The teacher will explain that the images represent an action word, also
referred to as "verbs."
- The teacher will introduce the lesson and will expand further by posting
examples on the board.
Verbs – are the action words in a sentence that describe what the subject
is doing. Along with nouns, verbs are the main part of a sentence or
phrase, telling a story about what is taking place.

Examples of Verbs:
1. Runs
2. Dances
3. Jumped
Examples of a verb in a sentence:
1. Jacob runs faster than David.
2. Gleziel dances gracefully.
3. The dog jumped over the fence.

d. Application
- The teacher will divide the class into five (5) groups. The teacher will
distribute sets of flashcards to each group.
- The students will read and identify the action words on the flashcards.
Each group will be given ten (10) seconds to perform the written word, and
thirty (30) seconds to put the performed word into a complete sentence.

C. Evaluation
Direction: In your activity notebook, fill each blank with the correct verb from the
given box.

D. Assignment/Agreement
Direction: On a short bond paper, draw or cut out ten (10) pictures that depict
common actions or activities you engage in during a normal day as a student. After
the picture, write the action word or verb. Create a phrase using the verb or action
word for each item.
