DAILY LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 9

I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding on how Anglo-American


literature and other text types serve as means of connecting to the world; also how to
use ways of analyzing one-act play and different forms of verbals for him/her skillfully
perform in one-act play.

B. Performance standard: The learner skillfully performs in one-act play through


utilizing effective verbal and non-verbal strategies and ICT resources based on the
following criteria: Focus, Voice, Delivery, and Dramatic Conventions.

C. Learning competencies:
• Use verbals (EN9G_IIIa-21) Recognize gerund and its uses

II. LESSON OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:


Cognitive : identify gerunds in the given sentences.
Affective : relate the use of gerund in doing recreational activities.
Psychomotor : perform differentiated tasks such as story making, song writing, and
role play using gerunds.

III. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Verbals: Gerund


Reference: English Time p.p. 11-12
Materials: projector, cartolina, marker

IV. PROCEDURE

A. Daily Activities

B. MOTIVATION
Picture Charade

1. The class will play a picture charade.


2. The assigned three groups of the class will choose one representative from their
group.
3. Each representative of the group will pick one picture on the table (pictures are
placed upside down). Group one will be the first to play the game then followed
by group 2 and group 3. The representative will not show the picture to everyone.
When the teacher says, “Timer starts now”. The representative will tell the
number of the picture and begin to act the action portrayed in the picture.
4. The other members of the group will guess the activity/hobby acted by their
group representative. 10 seconds will be given to guess the action. If the group
did not get the correct answer, the other group will be given a chance to steal and
give their answer.
The group that was able to give the correct answer will get the points.
5. There are three questions attached on the board that correspond to each picture.
The questions are the following:
1. What makes Mr. Cruz healthy?
2. What is Tony’s hobby that improves his vocabulary?
3. What do Bert and Amy love doing?
6. After all the groups are done doing their part , the teacher will reveal the correct
answer for each question.
 Possible Answers:
Playing Badminton
Reading book
Herbal Gardening/planting
7. From the given answers, students will be asked about the underlined words in
each phrase.

C. LESSON PROPER

Language Learning
From the underlined words the teacher will introduce and discuss the topic which is
about “Gerund.”

Gerund – is usually defined as word ending in – ing that is formed from a verb
and that functions as a noun specifically used as a subject, a subjective
complement and object of a preposition.

Subject: Teaching is Mary’s passion.


Subjective Complement: Mary’s work is teaching.
Object of a preposition: Mary earns living by teaching.

Exercise 1

Gerund Balloon Relay

1. The assigned three groups will play Gerund balloon relay.


2. Each group has one representative. All representatives will go in front. When the
teacher says, “timer starts now”, they will encircle the gerund used in the given
sentences on the board based on their specified functions. Group 1, will use the
yellow cartolina, group 2 will use the pink cartolina and group three will use the
blue cartolina as their answer sheet. They only have 10 seconds to complete the
task. Once they are done, the representatives will pop the balloon immediately by
sitting it on the floor.

3. After completing the task, the teacher will check their answers. The group who
made it correctly will get the points.

D. APPLICATION
Grand Gerund Activity
The teacher will divide the class into 3 groups, (same group) each group will be
assigned to do a certain task. Each group will be given 10 minutes to plan and prepare
for their performance. After 10 minutes, each group will present their work in front of
the class. Each group will be rated based on the rubric provided.

TOTAL SCORE= 30

Group 1: Tell a story based on the given pictures (See pictures on the powerpoint),
using gerund. (To be written on the cartolina)
Group 2: Make a song using gerund. (To be written on the cartolina)
Group 3: Portray a short scenario or role play using gerund, entitled “At the Mall.”

E. GENERALIZATION
Why do we need to know the importance and different functions of gerund in creating a
sentence?

Directions: Identify the functions of gerund used in the following sentences. Write your
answer on the space provided before each number.
