Quarter 2/ Week 2/ Day 1
OBJECTIVE: Arranges decimal numbers.

YOUR LESSON FOR TODAY:

Did you know that there are two ways to arrange decimal numbers orderly?

1. ASCENDING/INCREASING ORDER – the decimal numbers are arranged

from least to greatest.
2. DESCENDING/DECREASING ORDER – the decimal numbers are arranged
from greatest to least.

TRY TO DISCOVER!
Have you experienced joining the TREE PLANTING PROGRAM?
How does it feel being a part of it?
Let us read and analyze this problem.

The Grade V- Narra, together with their adviser went out of the school
campus and joined the tree planting program of the DENR. The teacher
instructed them to measure the height of the sapling or young trees before
planting them. Five of them were able to record these measurements;
TREES HEIGHT in cm
Pomelo 50. 5
Avocado 50. 55
Lemon 50. 43
Rambutan 50. 48
Mango 50. 600
If they planted them in a row from the shortest to the tallest sapling,
Which sapling was planted on the first row? On the 3rd row? And on the
last row?

Let’s identify what are asked in the problem:

Which sapling was planted on the first row? On the 3rd row? Last row?
STRATEGY 1:
We can solve the problem by illustration. Draw each tree and give
each measurement. Arrange them from the shortest to the
tallest.

RAMBUTAN-50.48CM AVOCADO-50.55cm
LEMON- 50.43cm POMELO- 50.5cm MANGO-50.600cm
50.48cm
Name ______________________________________ Grade & Section: ___________
Teacher: _______________________________________________

So the answers to the problems are:

First row = Lemon whose height is 50.48cm
Third row = Pomelo whose height is 50.53
Last row = Mango whose height is 50.600
Ascending order of the height of trees’ sapling;
50.43, 50.48, 50.5, 50.55, 50,60
Lemon, Rambutan, Pomelo, Avocado, Mango
1_
STRATEGY 2: 4
We can also answer easily by following these steps;

a.) Write them in column or the point should be 1_

aligned . 50 . 5 (Pomelo 4 ) 3
b.) Know the arrangement/order being required.
c.) Compare each digit starting from the left, one
50 . 55(Avocado) 4
column at a time.
(Since the whole numbers are equal, so start
comparing from the tenths column. We are looking 50 . 43 (Lemon) 1
for the smallest since we are going to plant them
from shortest to tallest. There are two 4’s in the
50 . 48 (Rambutan) 2
tenths column so one of them should be planted
first but which of which? So proceed to the
hundredths place of the two heights. 3 is smaller 50 . 600(Mango) 5
than 6. so that means, lemon, whose height is
50. 43cm should be in the first row, followed by rambutan in the second
row. Then back again to the tenths column, eliminating the two heights that
had been ranked already. Next to 4 is 5. There are two 5’s in the tenths, so
compare again the hundredths. Since there is no digit in the hundredths
place so that means it is 0. 0 is smaller than 5. Pomelo is in the 3 rd row,
followed by Avocado and the last is Mango.

STRATEGY 3:

50.43 50.55
50.40 50.42 50.44 50.46 50.48 50.50 50.52 50.54 50.56 50.58 50.60
1 2 3 4 5
Lemon Rambutan Pomelo Avocado Mango
a.) Device a scale to use depending on the given decimal numbers.
b.) Find the decimal numbers in the number line and number them according to
to the arrangement or order that you want.

Lets try more!

Lorevie makes a table of the list of things she needs to buy for the opening of
her online class and its corresponding price as she had canvassed online.
She wants to arrange them from the item with the highest price down to the
cheapest. She plans to buy them one at a time starting with the most
expensive ones. What is the last item she will buy? the second? the third?

Name ______________________________________ Grade & Section: ___________
Teacher: _______________________________________________

What are asked in the problem?

The last item she will buy, the 2nd and the 3rd
Arrange the items according to price in descending order.
STRATEGY: Comparing every digit starting from left. Applying
elimination when identified already the order

ITEMS P L A C E V A L U E ORDER

Read the problem and let’s try to discover how we deal with our lesson.

Ericka drove 2.6 km to the department store, 0.751 km to the bakery

and 1.9 km to the grocery. How many kilometres did she drive?

What is asked in the problem? – the total number of kilometres Ericka drove

How far is the department store? bakery? grocery?

2.6 km going to the department store
0.751 km to the bakery and
1.9 km to the grocery

What is the total distance she drove?

Let’s find the sum of 2.6, 0.751 and 1.9. We can solve the problem by following
these steps.

1. Write the decimals in column form. Align the decimal points.

2.6
0.751
+ 1.9

2. Put zeros to the right of the decimal (if necessary) to have the same length.
2.600
0.750
+ 1.900

3. Add like adding whole numbers, then write the decimal point in the sum.
2.600
0.751
+ 1.900
5.251 km

Therefore, the total distance Ericka drove is 5.251 km.
