TEST III ANALYSIS:

1. How will you start a badminton game.

The game starts with a toss. The referee tosses the coin and one player calls 'Head'
or 'Tail'. Player or team that wins the toss has an option to choose a side of the
court, or an option to serve or receive first.

2. What is LET? Explain

A let is played by the umpire when something (usually distracting) happens and is
beyond their control on court. For example, while a rally is going on, a bird from
another court lands on the court with play still in motion. The umpire will (usually)
play a let because the bird can momentarily distract a player.

Another example could be a player is still getting ready to receive serve but the
opponent serves without realizing the other player is still getting ready. The umpire,
in this case, will also play a let.

When a “let” is played, neither players are penalized and the score stays the same.

3. What is the scoring of a Badminton singles event?

Scoring System

A match consists of the best of 3 games of 21 points.

Every time there is a serve – there is a point scored.
The side winning a rally adds a point to its score.
At 20 all, the side which gains a 2 point lead first, wins that game.
At 29 all, the side scoring the 30th point, wins that game.
The side winning a game serves first in the next game.

Interval and Change of Ends

When the leading score reaches 11 points, players have a 60 second interval.
A 2 minute interval between each game is allowed.
In the third game, players change ends when the leading score reaches 11 points.

Singles
At the beginning of the game (0-0) and when the server’s score is even, the server serves from the right
service court. When the server’s score is odd, the server serves from the left service court.

If the server wins a rally, the server scores a point and then serves again from the alternate service
court.

If the receiver wins a rally, the receiver scores a point and becomes the new server. They serve from
the appropriate service court – left if their score is odd, and right if it is even.

4. Explain MATCHES in Badminton.

The game involves the two opponents hitting the shuttlecock over the net into the other
person's side. The rally ends when the shuttlecock touches the ground. Only one stroke is
allowed to pass it over the net. One badminton match is made up of three games, of 21
points
each. Professional badminton games are of five kinds: Men's singles, Men's doubles, Mixed
doubles, Women's singles and Women's Doubles

A badminton match consists of 3 sets (or games). The player(s) who wins 2 sets (or games)
will be the winner of the match.

However if a player(s) wins the first 2 sets, he/she will be declared the winner of the match.

The third set is not needed to be played since the player has already won 2 straight games.
New Rules

Today, badminton games are played based on the 21 points system. Some people refer to
this as the “new rules”.

Prior to the introduction of the 21 points system, the old rule or 15 points system was used.

Now the 15-point system is no longer used worldwide. International badminton tournaments
use the 21 points system today.

In the 21 points system, the player who manages to obtain 21 points will be the winner of
the badminton game/set.

5. Enumerate and explain at least 3 faults during badminton game.

a. If a player deliberately distracts an opponent by any action such as shouting or making

gestures.
You’re not allowed to sing, shout or make gestures that might distract the opponent. This could be
shouting as they’re about a hit the shuttle or making crude gestures at them.

Anything that would otherwise distract the other player from making their shot is a fault.

b. If a player invades an opponent’s court under the net with racket or person such that an
opponent is obstructed or distracted or obstructs an opponent, that is prevents an opponents
an opponent from making a legal stroke where the shuttle is followed over the net.
This is another fault that’s misinterpreted. Invading your opponents’ court simply means having
yourself or your racquet crossing under the net onto their side. It’s only a fault however if you impeded
the other player. The full rule:
So people don’t often realize that having your foot or legs pass under the net is fine, as long as you
don’t hit, obstruct or distract the other player.

c. If, on service, the shuttle is caught on the net and remains suspended on top or on service, after
passing over the net is caught in the net.
Very rare indeed, so rare I couldn’t actually find any footage of this one. If the shuttlecock gets stuck on
top or in the net, either on your side or the opponent’s side, then it’s a fault. It’s a fault because the
service didn’t land in the opponents’ service court.
It’s basically like hitting the shuttle in the net during the rally. You failed to get in over and into the
necessary court area so it’s a fault.
