The Life of a Student Teacher

(Reflection)

Here we go again. It's the second week of my journey as a student-teacher. This

week was our first team-teaching with my Cooperating Teacher. I could say that I did
my best during the session. I know that I am not that good at Math subjects, but I
pushed myself that I can do it. I am very thankful to my Cooperating Teacher since she
takes time for us to explain what we are going to do and how to teach Mathematics to
the students. Being a student-teacher is not that easy. From what I've experienced right
now, I need to manage my time. Since I am a shiftee, there are some subjects that I did
not take during those past years. With this, I have three minor subjects, one subject is for
the Internship, and that is being a Student-Teacher in which I have four subjects this
second semester. Other people might say, "That is just easy." "Those are just a minor
subject.", I can say that it is not easy for me because there are so many requirements and
assignments to pass, and I need to manage my time with my minor subjects to my
Internship. What I simply believe is that I can do it. I can overcome the challenges that
have been laid at me because I know that someone will guide me through this process,
and that person is God. I can do it for the reason that I aspire to be an astounding
inspiring teacher that is always approachable to her students and is constantly
encouraging, motivating, and pushing them toward their goals. I aim to give my
students a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

I have two sections that I handled this second semester every Tuesday. During
the synchronous session of the first section, I can say that students are not that
participative during the discussion. We can say that they are not yet ready since it's
early in the morning and it is their first class, and not all students are present in class. In
the second section of our synchronous session, Many students are present during class
and most of them are being participative. If I compare the two sections on how they
participate in class, the second section is more active than the first one. We all know that
most students hate the subject Math, but we can change that by providing interactive
activities and breaking the task down into chunks where we split the teachings down
into smaller bits. Some challenging kids struggle to stay focused because they don't
understand what has been discussed. Breaking activities into smaller bits that your
pupils can easily consume is one strategy to control poor student behavior in the
classroom.

"Apply teaching strategies that develop critical and creative thinking, and/or
other higher-order thinking skills." This is from Domain 1 of the Philippine Professional
Standards for Teachers (PPST) under Content knowledge and Pedagogy. In line with
this, I can correlate this strand to what I've experienced because applying strategies can
help students in order to enhance their understanding of the topic. With this, we can
make students participate and have them engage in our class discussions.
