MODULE 22 - What I Have Learned – page 9

1. What are the common application of exponential functions, equations, and
inequalities to real-life situations?
 Exponential functions, equations and inequalities are commonly used in
compound interest, population growth/decay, and in bacterial growth/decay.
Exponential inequalities can also be used to determine how long it will take to
double one’s money based on a certain rate of interest. Exponential functions
can be used in depreciation.

2. In solving real-life problems involving exponential functions, equations, and

inequalities, what do you think are the important skills that you should have to solve
the problems? Enumerate the different steps that you should consider in solving real-
life problems involving exponential functions, equations, and inequalities.
 The important skills that we should have to solve problems involving
exponential expressions is critical thinking.
The different steps to solve real-life problems involving exponential functions,
equations, and inequalities:
 First, identify the given values of the problem.
 Second, understand that given problem and identify if it is exponential
function, equation, or inequality.
 Construct the formula.
 Substitute the values to the formula.
 Then simplify.
 Lastly, check the answer if its correct.
