I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to:

 Performs operations on rational algebraic
expressions
 Solves problems involving rational algebraic
expressions.

A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of key

concepts of factors of polynomials, rational
algebraic expressions, linear equations and
inequalities in two variables, systems of linear
equations and inequalities in two variables and
linear functions.

B. Performance Standards The learner is able to formulate real-life problems

involving factors of polynomials, rational algebraic
expressions, linear equations and inequalities in
two variables, systems of linear equations and
inequalities in two variables and linear functions,
and solve these problems accurately using a variety
of strategies

C. Most Essential Learning

Competencies 1. Performs operations on rational algebraic
(MELC) expressions.
2. Solves problems involving rational algebraic
expressions.

Activities
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Introduction What I need to know?
 After going through this class, they are
expected to perform operations on rational
algebraic expressions and apply it on
problem solving.

What’s new?
Answer Learning Task 1 (page 13)
B. Development What I know?
Recall how to add and subtract fractions
1. 1/5 + 2/5
2. 2/7 + 5/7
3. 1/3 + 1/2
4. 2/3 + 3/5
5. 5/7 + 3/8
Recall how to multiply and divide fractions.
6. (2/3)(1/4)
7. (2/5)(1/3)
8. (1/6)(1/4)
9. (1/2) / (1/3)
10. (1/4) / (2/5)

What is it?

To add or subtract rational algebraic

expressions, you must always check the
denominator. In adding or subtracting
rational algebraic with common
denominator, simply add the numerators
and copy the denominator. Always reduce
your answer to its simplest form.
(Discussion will be on powerpoint)
I. Engagement What’s more?
Add the following rational algebraic
expressions.
1. 3/6b + 1/6b
2. x/x2-4 + 2/x2-4
3. 2m/m+4 + 3/m+4
4. 4. 2s/4k * 3/2k2
5. (m/2) / (m-2)

What can I do?

To enhance your knowledge about the topic the
learner will answer the ff activity.
