SITUATION 1

A Wide flange T-section is used as a tension member with two lines of ¾-inches diameter bolts in each flange
using steel with Fy=48 ksi and Fu = 55 ksi. There are three bolts in each line with a distance of 4 inches on
the center, and the bolts are not staggered with respect to each other. [Use NSCP 2010/2015] Assume the
diameter of holes are 3 mm larger than the diameter of bolts.

SITUATION 2:

An A36 (Fy = 248 MPa, Fu = 400 MPa.) angle (150 × 150 × 9.5 mm) is used as a tension member. It is
connected at its end with one line of 4-22 mm diameter bolts in standard holes (diameter of holes is 3 mm
larger than diameter of bolts). The bolts are spaced 75 mm on center on one leg only.

of 40 mm. The beam is subjected to a superimposed uniformly distributed load of 20 𝑘𝑁/𝑚 . The normal
weight concrete has a density of 2400 𝑘𝑔/𝑚 and compressive strength, fc’ = 28 MPa. and the steel yield
strength is 248 MPa. If the beam is extended to the right until the overhang is equal to b = 2 m (see Figure
TOS 2202),

Situation No. 11
A single‐angle tension member, an L90 × 90 × 10, is connected to a gusset plate with 22 mm ‐diameter
bolts as shown. A36 steel is used. The service loads are 155 kN dead load and 67 kN live load. Investigate
this member for compliance with the NSCP 2015 Specification. Assume that the effective net area is 85%
of the computed net area. Use New ASD. Bolt hole diameter is 3 mm more than the bolt diameter.
