MALAYA
Moira Dela Torre

The song “Malaya” by Moira Dela Torre talks about a relationship that failed just
because one chose to give up. Since their relationship had gotten tiring and frustrating
one has to let go, though still hopes they’ll be back in each other’s arm someday. It also
talks about setting your love one free as “Malaya” means “free”. The song has a solemn
and sad tune that can pierce the heart of any listeners.

Most teenagers who have experienced heartbreak, in my opinion, can connect to

this song. Even if the lyrics do not depict what they have experienced, they may relate to
Moira's emotions in this song in the same manner that they are experiencing. Even if
listening to this music makes them cry even more, they can't get enough of the
captivating sorrowful tune it has. There were times when her voice sounded gentle but
hurtful, which drew your attention and made you concentrate on the lyrics rather than
pouting and drowning in your own thoughts.

One part of the song uses a metaphor “susuko na ang sandata, aatras na sa laban”
which means she’s already giving up on whatever they have but this not because of other
negative reasons, but this is because she loves him and they need to take a rest on the
battle they’ve been battling for a long time.

If you truly love someone, you must set them free, especially if the relationship is no
longer functioning because both of you will suffer more in the end. Letting go of each
other could be the best option you make in terms of repairing yourself and retracing your
steps, after all “kapag kayo, kayo talaga”.

Self-Introduction
Chrisa Mabawad

Hello! Good day, I’m Chrisa Mae Zamora Mabawad. An 18 year old student of Davao
Oriental Regional Science High School. I was born on September 12, 2003 at Barangay
Taguibo, City of Mati.

I am a simple learner who aims to have good grades, to make my family proud. I
want to become a Civil Engineer in the near future, if not a wife of an Engineer will do, char.
I am somehow studios but procrastination is also my thing. It is not advisable though I
always do it, so I believe it really depends upon who the person is.

I am not actively involved in recreational activities though sometimes I play

volleyball and chess whenever I feel. I like eating, especially sweets. My favorite past time
would be reading fictional stories, watching series and listening to music. I love collecting
art materials, but sadly I don’t have the talent. Books and nature can calm my chaos mind.

To sum up my 18 year old life, I lived in a not so civilized but peaceful community. I
can say that I am an achiever in my own way, academically and personally. I am flawed
physically and maybe mentally, I hope not. Though it does not affect me as a whole, you
know I am a teenager and insecurity is part of the system and growing. I don’t think being
negative to myself helps me to live my life to the fullest. And who cares if I love myself the
way I am, I am me and I rule myself. It only takes confident for me to conquer what the
world offers to me.

1. What are the multimedia types that appeal to you the most?
→ The three given multimedia types have its different capacities to people. In today's
society, multimedia is one of the most powerful impacts in the new digital age. We use
multimedia on a daily basis. Many people rely on multimedia in their daily lives,
whether for business or personal reasons. The internet is the most popular type of
multimedia today, not only for social media and study, but also for commercial
purposes. Multimedia has become a way of life for many individuals, and it is now
considered the standard.
2. Which characteristics of multimedia do you like or usually look for in multimedia
applications you come across?
→ Its graphical elements, because visually appealing contents or texts really matter to
easily catch the peoples’ attention. And in that way different perspectives may create
upon looking at the multimedia application.

Let Us Reflect

● Have you personally experienced the benefits of multimedia? How?

→ I am a teenager as well as a student. Multimedia really matters because it creates a
way to communicate with my love ones when they are miles away, also as a student in
the new normal situation, multimedia made it easier for me to do school works but
also in a good way.

● For a moment, imagine that the internet has disappeared and will never be back. What do
you think will happen?
→ In this time of our lives, we rely mostly on multimedia depending on in what way we
are using it. If the internet will disappear it also means that the multimedia will
disappear its capability as it is both attached to one another. People will not get to use
to it in a sense that it became a part of our lives, somehow.

● 300-word reaction paper about “Biyaheng Edsa” by Howie Severino.

The video entitled “Biyaheng EDSA” shows the significance of our culture
especially in
communication because as Howie Severino discussed on how People Power I succeed.
Biyaheng EDSA, not only because of its storytelling and technical aspect, but also the
People’s Power I and how Filipinos succeed.

Before the revolution EDSA is only a highway not only because of its storytelling
and technical aspect, but also because of its significant in the present times to analyze the
rule of communication is crisis. I’d notice that even in past, communication is the way or
instrument of 2 million Filipinos to won the revolution without being blood flowed and
weapons that might hurt other because they communicate clearly and they show their
wants for the freedom of Philippines even though we have a different beliefs and cultural
background still the aim is there we will be successfully won. And as long as we have
communication there is no misunderstanding, rivalry and breakdowns. So as our
generation pass, we will continuously passing the right communication, because the
holistic part of being communicated is to avoid misunderstanding and breakdowns.

And at Balintawak, where the Katipunan’s cry of Revolt in 1896, is historically

remembered he sarcastically pointed our concept of freedom by connecting it to our
“Freedom”, he pointed to his documentary on how we erroneously view our freedom, by
doing unscrupulous deeds like taking drugs and hurting each other’s and he seriously
pointed or tell to the audience, on whether the 1986 People Power is a revolution or just a
revolt.

Along the way, Howie meet different characters of people including the group of
rugby boys, a poet, and former political detainee, and a Muslim, whose unsure if EDSA was
inclusive of all the Filipino because the Muslim woman pointed out that in the word Filipino
there’s a letter missing which is I so, she say that how we proved the we are Filipino if the
word Filipino was not completed.

● Blog post about how social media has helped families, social workers, and the government
in discerning information during calamities.

SOCIAL MEDIA AS SOURCE OF INFORMATION DURING CALAMITIES

“Social media is not about the exploitation of technology but service to community.” -Simon
Mainwaring

Social media as defined by Daniel Nations, are web-based communication tools that
enable people to interact with each other by both sharing and consuming information.
Social media in our present time has become vital in every aspect of human life. It served
as a tool for communicating with other people in a much effective and convenient way. It
also allows us to communicate with people anytime and anywhere and even interact to a
large number of people.

Social media also play an important role in disseminating information during

calamities or disaster. It allows people to share and exchange information during a
calamity and ask for help. Facebook and Twitter for example, are two social media
platforms which are popular for posting news or updates about a disaster, as these has
millions of users which visit these sites regularly. But in the long run, how had the social
media helped families, social workers and the government in discerning information
during calamities?

Through social media, every family during a calamity can easily communicate with
their relatives from other places. They are able to communicate and check on the current
situation of their relatives and ask if they need any help. Through Facebook, Messenger
and other forms of social media, they can also give or send warnings and updates to notify
their family members and relatives so they can prepare and be reminded of the
precautionary measures during a calamity. Meanwhile, through social media, social
workers become more aware and informed about the degree of situation of what they
have to go through and what kind of response they have to give during a calamity. They
are able to locate easily the places where their aid is most needed. On the other hand,
through social media, the government are able to ask help from the government of other
countries to send aid to the affected areas. The government then can also disseminate
information and updates of the delivery of relief and help they will provide to the victims
with the use of social media.

SOCIAL MEDIA VS. TRADITIONAL MEDIA

Discerning information through the social media in the present is much more
convenient compared to the past media we used before such as television, radio and
printed media. With social media, one can get real time updates during a calamity
anywhere and anytime while with the traditional media you can only get access to news if
you are at home or in a place with television and radio. Traditional media only offers a one
way conversation and therefore there is no chance for a person to communicate his or her
thoughts about a news. On the contrary, social media provides a two way conversation and
thus, it allows people to exchange and share information with others. Through social
media, one can interact with another while obtaining and giving information. Although the
down side of social media is that the news coming from this are not always reliable
compared to traditional media in which the content are polished by professionals or
experienced people in the field. It would still then come down that both the social media
and the traditional media should be used by people in discerning information wisely to be
able to provide the correct and honest information to all.

Let Us Reflect

● What is/are the petition(s) you signed using Change.org? Why is it important to you?
→ I did signed the petition for “Save Davao Oriental from Mining”. As a community
member of Davao Oriental we must preserve our nature because if not we’ll suffer the
consequences. Mining operators should limit their mining activities and calculate the
pros and cons of what they are doing. It is given that it is a way of earning money, as
considered to be one of the most important things today, but if that way of earning
money risks all of the people, plants and animals, and specially the Mother Nature
then it must stop. Good environment makes a happy a community, there are a lot of
works that can’t harm the environment why not invest on those. Good community
with awesome environment is one the thing we can pass to the next generation, we
must keep it healthy for every organisms to be happy.

● You have performed the task given in planning and conceptualizing an ICT project for
social change that a student may be able to identify the platforms that can be used for
developing an ICT project. As a student how will you promote and organize your project
properly?
→ One of the easiest ways to track progress of your goals and objectives, and how these
are supporting your values, is to schedule a regular reflection on things. It helps to
increase awareness of your overall want and progress, identify the progress,
opportunities, barriers and plans for specific aspect in the project and shape a future
action plan. Go and slay!

mobile devices, which of the two is higher?
→ If I am a social media influencer or have that huge number of followers, I think
number of users who visited my site using mobile devices is greater than those
users who used PC. This is because mobiles are much handy and we can easily
browse whatever we want without much effort. Also, we feel convenient using
phones.

● As a student, what will be your contribution to the ever-evolving environment of the digital
world in terms of delivering your content?
→ Accurate information’s is all we need to have a peaceful digital community. It really
depends on a person, and as for me I would definitely use these kind of platforms to
spread awareness in all terms.
