What is ASHRAE?
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers
advances the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and
refrigeration to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world. Membership is
open to any person associated with the field including indoor air quality, building
design and operation, and environmental control for food processing and industry.

Who Should Join ASHRAE?


All students enrolled in university or college programs with a focus on the following
topics: HVAC&R, engineering, architecture and building science, controls and
automation, energy management, green building design and construction
management.

Student Membership with ASHRAE – Step-by-Step Instructions


Becoming a Student Member with ASHRAE is a two-part process. First you must
register is an ASHRAE Society Student Member (Part I) and then as an ASHRAE
Toronto Chapter Member (Part II). The step-by-step guide below will assist you in
completing both application processes.

PART I: Becoming a Society Student Member

A Student Membership costs $16 USD and the easiest way to apply is online by
following these simple steps:

1. Visit the main ASHRAE student web page: www.ashrae.org/students


2. On the left hand side of the page, click on the JOIN ASHRAE link (directly above the
StudentZone Quicklinks)
3. You will be re-directed to the main membership page where you will be asked to Verify E-
mail Status. Here you will insert your email address of choice and the website will verify if

you have ever created a previous account. If you are a first time user, you will be able to click
on the Register Now! link.
4. Clicking the Register Now! link will allow you to complete the on-line registration form.
5. Once registered to the site, you must now register as a Student Member. In the Individual
Information screen, click on the Join ASHRAE link.
6. In the ASHRAE Membership Join screen you must select you membership grade. In this
case, select the Student link.
7. Fill out the Demographic Data fields as follows:
a. Under “company industry” – select “86 – STUDENT”
b. Under “company size” – leave field blank
c. Under “job title” – select “Y – STUDENT OR OTHER”
d. Under “job function” – select “OTHER”
e. All other fields and check boxes are optional
8. Fill out the Student Demographic fields as follows:
a. Under “sponsor ID” – input your Student President’s ASHRAE ID # or leave field
blank if you are unsure.
b. Under “sponsor name” – input your Student President’s Name or leave field blank if
you are unsure.
c. Under “advisor ID” – input your Faculty Advisor’s ASHRAE ID # or leave field blank if
you are unsure.
d. Under “advisor name” – input your Faculty Advisor’s Name or leave field blank if you
are unsure.
e. Complete all remaining fields as required
9. Follow the next screens to purchase a New Student Member Package. This package has
been automatically selected. Proceeding to the Check Out link will allow you to purchase an
ASHRAE Student Membership for $16 USD with any major credit card. You will receive
several confirmation/receipt emails upon completing this transaction. Keep all emails for your
record.

Congratulations! You are now an ASHRAE Society Student Member!

PART II - Becoming a Chapter Student Member

Since ASHRAE is such a large, globally-recognized society, it relies on the


assistance of locally managed chapters to strengthen and enhance its industry
presence. University and college students enrolled in schools within Toronto (and
the GTA) have the benefit of being part of ASHRAE’s Toronto Chapter. It is essential
that all ASHRAE Society Student Members register as ASHRAE Toronto Chapter
Student Members to ensure their involvement in local chapter activities – including
technical dinners, workshops, conferences and technical tours.

An ASHRAE Toronto Chapter Student Membership is FREE and can also be done
on-line as follows:

1. Visit ASHRAE’s Toronto Chapter Website: www.torontoashrae.com


2. Click on the Join link on the left hand side.
3. Select the Student Member radio button.
4. Complete all Application Form fields and click Submit Application.
5. You will receive an email confirming your status as an ASHRAE Toronto Chapter Student
Member.

Congratulations! You are now an ASHRAE Toronto Chapter Student Member!
