It is the second semester I have been guided by my redoubtable lecturer,
Mr. An, who is also known as Mr. Than Long. This term is indisputably priceless to
me on account of various grounds. Firstly, I acquired numerous useful tips on
improving my writing capacity. To be honest, I used to have a poor mindset when
it came to writing as I feared making mistakes jotting down ideas. Nevertheless,
all concerns have been gone since Mr. An took very close care of our work. He
distributed a list of phrases choice to remind us of the common errors and ways
to enhance them. Furthermore, he converted the writings into audio files so that
students could acquire knowledge through both visual and hearing methods.
Secondly, we were also pre-taught Linguistics, which is one of the most
complicated subjects in the third semester. Acknowledging this fact, Mr. An
opened additional classes every week for us to get familiar with the new subject.
Hence, I appreciate his time spent helping students not to be snowed under in the
heavy load of work of being a sophomore. Finally, it is undoubtedly the book
session, which is my dearest part of this term. I am always looking forward to the
range of books sent every couple of days since it assists me on the path to

becoming a teacher full of academic and emotional perspectives. Related to
hobbies, books are also a functional procedure of keeping me occupied. Being a
freshman, I did many times feel down due to the rapid changes at university.
Books serve to help me find back the positivity and motivation needed within the
way to reach success. To conclude, it is fortunate for me to be a part of Mr. An’s
class.

Topic 1: Describe the most memorable movie you watched as a child.

I remembered having watched a thrilling superhero film when I turned 10.

Its name was Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. To begin, the scene
took place in the city of New York, where a sorcerer named Doctor Stephen
Strange had to defend the world against an evil wizard, Scarlet Witch. Ultimately,
she desired the power from the ancient book Vashanti to travel among the
universes so that she could live happily with her two sons. Nevertheless, this
action could cause an incursion when two universes collapsed and fell into
decadence. At the end of the movie, Scarlet Witch realized her fault and decided
to return the book. The film caught my great memory since it was produced with
great care by the directors. First, the number of after-effects that were used to
create spectacular magic fight scenes was stunning. So magnificent it was that I
couldn’t take my eyes off it during the entire movie. One more remarkable
feature of the film is that its plot was developed in detail. It was easy to catch up
with as the writer distributed it into 5 clear stages from exposition to climax, and

a reasonable resolution. Lastly, the movie was considered memorable because it
conveyed a meaningful message about family love to the audience. Despite being
the main villain throughout the film, Scarlet Witch was somehow understood and
worth sympathy. In conclusion, this movie did completely live up to my
expectations.

Topic 5: Is social media making us less social? Why or why not?

With a deluge of online telecommunication in this technology era,

interactions among people by the means of social media have caused heated
arguments. Personally, despite various undoubted benefits, the prevalence of
social media also brings users far away from others. To begin with, the Internet
has formed a community where individuals can keep in touch with their chummy
ones without any boundaries. For instance, students who must move to dissimilar
locations for studies can easily contact their friends with the help of online
gadgets. Social media has posed a new concept for social bonding by attaching
people 24/7. Consequently, it diminishes the gap between place and place as
each close companion can be updated with the latest news now and then.
Another prominent pro is that social networking connects various users with the
same interests regardless of their time zones and locations. For example, stamp
collectors can simply search for a diversity of groups on Facebook, where
individuals exchange knowledge and trade stamps together. It creates a new path
for bringing up joy and sharing happiness. Additionally, users can utilize this form
of communication to express their feelings, which turns out to be valuable when
Page 4 of 5
it comes to stress and pressure. In Vietnam, a myriad of pages is opened to offer
people free psychological advice with a view to ease their inner issues. On the
other hand, the apprehension of becoming less socially active cannot be
neglected. Firstly, the dominance of social media is likely to outweigh the
significance of direct communication. Since people allocate much free time
online, they prevent themselves from engaging in real-life relationships. Over
time, this negatively leaves marks on the capacity to conduct live communication
skills such as body language, eye contact, etc. Research from the MBA Newspaper
shows that having a lack of communication skills can cost your career, ultimately.
Moreover, people gradually become more and more self-contained with their
surroundings. Why bother going out for a sightseeing tour when we can type its
name on Google to explore ourselves. People are trying to escape the real world
and fulfill their needs with digital support. In brief, I believe it poses a serious
threat to the emotional development of humankind. To conclude, we cannot
deny social media acts as a link to bring people together. However, if it exceeds
the function of connection, our social life will be ruined.
