Jianti and Isna discuss their biology class project on climate change and the connection between plastic pollution and climate change. Jianti explains that plastic pollution threatens the environment because plastic stays in the soil for hundreds of years, preventing tree and plant growth. This reduced plant growth means less carbon dioxide is removed from the air, exacerbating climate change. They discuss ways to reduce plastic usage through reusable shopping bags and recycling, and choosing more environmentally friendly products to help address this issue.

Jianti: I am good. Have you done your project in our biology class? Mrs Siti assigns us to research climate change, isn’t it? Isna: Yeah, I'm still not finished yet. Why do you think she wants us to research that topic? Jianti: Seriously, don’t you have any clue about it? Look at the midden over there! People throw their plastic waste carelessly. How can it's not possible to cause climate change? Isna: I never heard about that before. What are the correlations between plastic waste and climate change? Can you share with me more? Jianti: I learned that plastic pollution is a big threat to the entire environment. Because it’s a type of material that stays the same for hundreds of years under the soil and spoils the soil’s ability to grow trees and other plants. But many of us still use plastic bags and most of the food and other stuff is packed with plastics. Isna: And for the consequences, we can't grow trees and other plants to help stop climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the air? Jianti: You've hit the nail on the head. Isna: So, what should we do? Is that possible to remove the plastic usage from our daily life? Jianti: There are some countries in the world that even completely banned plastic. However, it might be hard to apply it in our country. Then, for now, at least we can reduce the use of plastic in our daily life, like bringing your shopping bag instead of using a plastic bag. Isna: I see. I think we should keep the waste in the recycle bin too. So, our environment will not be polluted by plastic waste. And we can prefer to buy environmentally friendly products instead of non-recyclable products. Jianti: That's spot on. Mrs Siti probably wants us to be more aware of climate change by assigning us a research project on this topic. Isna: Very well, likely it’s the case. Thanks a million, I can finish the project easier afterwards. Jian: Anytime. Take care. See you, bye for now. Isna: Bye.
