ABSTRACT

This project work was undertaken to investigate the need of improving the
use of educational resources. This research work centered mainly on the
need for school management to make firm policies so as to affect proper
performance in educational resources as well as enhancing the performance
of students in their school. The population of the study was 402. And the
sample size used was 200. The instrumentation for this study used for
collecting data was specified in the research question using yes or no
method. The questionnaire consisted of five (5) questions drawn in a way
that respondents could answer. The data collected the questionnaire was
analyzed using sample percentage. And the findings drawn from the study
showed that students are responding to the demand of education resources
and the opinion about the application of educational resources is necessary.
The conclusions drawn was that, most of the students, lack interest in their
lecturers. And these made the large population of studies in a class to be
affected. Based on the findings, several recommendations were made.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Education resources have vital role in education. Many educational resources

which were previously done manually have been mechanized. Thus, the

diversities of these office technologies require the students to possess new

skills and sub-skills to enables him/her to be relevant in the school.

The results are used for multipilicity of purpose. The consequence of global

development in the education resources area, calls for corresponding

development of new skills in office managers. Education resources has

changed the equipment and work groups, of course, nobody today would like

to work in an office where information processing and other secretarial

activities are done manually not mechanically. So the mechanized office is

gradually giving way to the automated office. Information is a basic resources

in today’s society. We are living in a global information society, with a

economy that is increasingly dependent on the creation, management and

distribution of information resources. People in many nations no longer live in

agricultural societies, composed primarily of farmers, or even industrial

societies, where a majority of work force consists of factory workers. Instead,

the workforce of many nations consists primarily of workers that are people

who spend most of their workday creating, using the distributing information.

9
They provide information about a student progress and his/her lecturer in

evaluating his success, modifying and improving his approach to his subject.

The basic components of any resources are three (3) in numbers.

 The techniques of resources to be used

 The skill to be developed in the course and the content to be covered in

the syllabus.

 The weighing of the various parts of the resources.

Therefore, for a judicious planning of what is taught and accessed under

educational resources, practice attempt has been made to ask questions and

possible answer them later.

How can we plan for the continuous resources of our institution, method and

materials for effective learning in educational resources?

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The emergence office technologies in educational resources organizations has

challenged the occupational resources and rendered some resources such as

transcription resources, typing on the manual typewriter obsolete and also

given rise to previously unknown resources such as web page design,

desktop publishing, networking resources.

In order to achieve the aims of this study attempt will be made to answer the

following questions:

10
1. What are the lecturer and student and interaction towards the educational

resources?

2. What are the performances of students in educational resources?

3. What are the skills to develop in educational resources?

4. What are the lecturer and student innovations in the educational

resources?

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The major purpose of the study is to find out the educational resources that

can enhance the performance of Office Technology and Management

students. Specifically, the study sought to;

1. Examine on how to find the nature and scope of relationship between the

educational resources.

2. Determine educational resources available for use by students in the

performance of Office Technology and Management.

3. Examine the extent to which the number and the academic qualification of

the educational skill and non-skill in schools.

4. High impact of supports to the students to ensure that all students will

have their career ready.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study is significant in the sense that it will increase students knowledge

and enhance the process of studies in the school. New studies can be
11
generated due to the findings of this work and knowledge on the concept.

The improvement of the industrialization in the study depends purely on the

total revenue generated by school. All revenue generated from the study are

put together by the school production for the masses also the study will be

used as a guide for the training and enlightening the student and other

officials involved to improve on their performance.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

The study answered the following questions.

1. Do you think students are responding positively to the demand of

educational resources?

2. What are the skills used by Educational resources?

3. Did your school implement Educational resources?

4. What are the resources that are available for use by Educational

resources in your school?

5. Do you think there is great difference in Educational resources?

6. Are the demands being meant in the school?

7. Does the physical revenue reduce Educational resources?

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This study is limited to improve performance of Office Technology and

Management so the course of the study, questionnaire will be distributed to

the different categories of staff in some selected department in Delta State

Polytechnic, Ozoro.
12
LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

In the process of carrying out this study, the researches encountered

numerous problems such as difficulty to retting access to the place where

fact where to be selected for the study. Also time factor was another problem

as a result of very short project time to combine classroom activities with

movement outside the field to collect materials for the research. It took the

researcher a great deal of determination and time to get the research work

neatly collected.

Finally, the unco-operated attitude of some respondents to the research also

constituted problems many of the respondents were suspicious of the

respondents did not return the questionnaire gender to them and this further

reduce the sample size of the study.

OPERATIONAL DEFINITION OF TERMS

For the achievement of the research work, it is important to define some of

the terms in the content of the research.

a) Educational resources

This may be defined as resources method that concerns each student

result or improvement in the cognitive effective and psychometric area

of learning

b) Office Technology and Management

The Office Technology as the name implies, is an assistant to an

executive who posses mostly Office skills who demonstrative ability

13
without direct supervision from the boss and who take decision scope

of his/her authority.

c) Performance

This refers to the execution of carrying out student incentive.

CHAPTER TWO

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

INTRODUCTION

This chapter describes the review taking from various sources as they relate

to this topic under the investigation.

The chapter is organized and presented under the following sub-heading:

14
A) Conceptual frame work of the educational resources

B) The need for educational resources

C) Demand of educational resources

D) Method of educational resources by students

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK OF EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

The conceptual framework of educational resources is essential because

learning precedes best under conditions were correct responses the

reinforced and where cognitive deed back on the immediate knowledge of

results established effective reinforcement.

Ube (1982) in a nutshell stated that the educational resources is a system of

arriving at judgment or statement of a student progress based on day to day

educating of his learning activities.

He went further in saying that not only his character as well as personality is

assessing the student intellectual growth.

And that student participates in class and examinations, of various types

complement one another to provide more reliable resources of the student

progress.

THE NEED OF EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

Ube (1978) realizes that the fact that effective record keeping of students’

progress would help lecturers, school management to guide and counsel their

students for a further programme since their strength and weakness will be

uncovered.
15
It makes the lecturers work systematic and organize and the students

learning also systematic with this contention.

Learning by the students becomes much more relatively easier when learning

task is purely systematically organized. It is the responsibility of the lecturer

to carryout assessment in continuous manner; their management should play

an important role. In keeping, using maintain and updating the records.

The management and the lecturers should therefore co-operatively work to

help each student improve. The most obvious of the necessary of educational

resources in our institution today. They will be expected to work as what he

enjoys or does not enjoys doing, his problems is stated of physical and

mental health etc.

PROBLEMS OF EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

There are problems associated with the application of educational resources

programme in Nigeria In general and Delta State in particular perhaps.

One of the most important problems is getting précising and perspective

student should understand what educational resources is really all about. As

a result of the fact that both the students and the resources are not properly

planned.

Furthermore, the most understanding prevailing misconception about it that

it involves continuous formal testing particularly the testing of student matter

knowledge.

16
Related to this erective traits are a variety of instrument of assessing them,

instrument for their resources have been developed in Nigeria but we still

have the problem of assembling and that of getting practicing student to

internalize their use.

DEMAND OF EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES ON THE STUDENT

The student must understand the role of evaluation successful learning. If

the student continue to learn intently without regular valuation then, the

student will not change his mistakes and make corrections guard towards

better instruction. Researchers have shown that confirmation of progress of

students is a source.

Above all the importance of educational resources is that every student is

expected to benefit from the instruction.

Educational resources make a great deal of demand on the student in terms

of his dedication, h onestly fact, the practice of educational resources after

school has no time for learning their notes and instructional materials for the

next day contact with the lecturers.

METHODS OF EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

Educational resources are systematic and scientific methods of assessment.

As a result, it demands methods of learning that are equally systematic and

scientific. The experimental methods of some of the approaches that can be

adopted include.

17
The scientific and effective thinking approach under this approach or what is

generally called the method of science is the most. This approach can be

used in studying many subjects. These are the following steps.

 Identifying a problem

 Set hypothesis

 Collect information through activities such as observation, weighing,

measuring teaching, hearing, felling and smelling etc.

 Record finding or result

 Draw some tentative conclusion

This approach helps to think in the process of getting information necessary

to confirm the hypothesis, students should therefore makes the learning of

science of investigating as possibl, making attempts to use the available

materials resources both in their how and in the schools environment.

The importance of this approach in normal life is that there are several

problems to solve.

These are the following steps;

 Looking for possible solutions, also identify the best of them.

 Provide solutions

 Identification of a problem

The project approach tens is another which uses a great deal of finding out

things or information by students what the lecturers needs to do is to provide

18
and appreciate environment in form of proper instruction to enable students

find out things, to complete specific project.

The following steps are necessary in the use of project approach.

 Identifying the topic to be learned or the problems to be solved.

 Break the topic into some meaningful bits so that they will complete the

topic or solve the problem.

Huson (1973) while trying to point out some of the advantages of the

educational resources revealed that it puts an account of everyday. Also that

when the educational resources procedure is applied all the work students

have been doing manifest itself.

However, modern offices that have increased mechanization of office

procedures have kinds of equipment. The employers expect all students or

trainers pursing courses in office technology and management at every level

to develop some skills in the manipulation or operation of some of office

technology and management students expect the graduate to be able to type

as well as file document. Currently, too all computer are tested on various

aptitude skills which are largely in the psychomotor and cognitive domains.

SUMMARY OF THE LITERATURE

Educational resources as the name cannot be use to assess students

intellectual capacity in every field of learning. It is also used to test student

performance and know the student behaviour in his discipline of learning.

19
As office technology and management student, my skill can assess by my

practical performance and other skill subject.

The above table explain 45 (90%) respondent agreed with the above

question while respondent representing (10%) did not agreed to the

question. Furthermore, schools do implement educational resources.

Question Four (4)

Are there adequate records to show whether the educational resources

demand are being meant in the school? It have to reveal it that there are

adequate record to show whether the educational resources demand are

being meant in the school.

Table four (4)

To answer this below data were used adequate record to show if educational

resources demand are being meant in the school.

27
Table above shows that 30 (60%) of the respondents agree that they have

good relationship with the lecturers, 20 (40%) said no from the responses

above. I could said that responses above. I could relationship with the

lecturers.

DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS

The study was aimed to examine the performance of office technology and

management (O.T.M.) students through the application of educational

resources.

This study was supported by Ube (1982) which states that the educational

resources is a system of arriving at judgment statement of students progress

based on day to day evaluation of his learning activities. It went further

saying can be used in student intellectual capability in every field of learning.

28
CHAPTER FIVE
