Title : Passive Pupils During Teaching and Learning Process.

1. Focused Issue :

I’ve gone through the teaching and learning process in Year 5. I found out that
during the set induction, the pupils’ attention were at a satisfied level. However,
during the presentation stage (Step 1), pupils tended to lose their focus. There were
3 pupils whom I spotted losing their focus during the teaching and learning process.

2. Focused Issue Analysis (Cause and Effect) :

The cause of pupils losing focus during the teaching and learning process is the
design and content presented in the Powerpoint slides did not meet the pupils’
interests.
The effect of pupils losing focus during the teaching and learning process would
cause the pupils to miss out some important content the teacher is presenting.
Consequently, the pupils would lose their interests in learning new skills.

3. Literature Review :

According to Lahkar (2013), teaching and learning in the 21st century should be
student centered. The old system where teacher centered teaching ought-to be
reduced.

4. Suggestions :

Based on the analysis I’ve done on the issue I found in class, these are the
suggestions I’ve made to tackle the problem:

i) Include pair or group work.

ii) Create teaching aids which contain video.
iii) Include hands on activity.

5. Duration :

3 weeks

6. Follow-up Action :

I will choose to execute the following suggestion plan: Create teaching aids which
contain video. Videos or gif pictures must be relevent to the learning content,
preferably to be colourful too.

7. Execution Date for Follow-up Action :

31.03.2022

8. Effectiveness of Suggestions :

The action chosen to tackle the issue had a positive impact. Pupils were able to pay
attention longer during the teaching and learning process. They were pick up the
vocabularies very quickly with the gif pictures, which has motion, much better than
normal pictures. Besides that, 4 out of 5 of them could match the opposites of
adjectives correctly.

9. Conclusion / Reflection / Obstacles :

After making this change on the teaching aid, I am satisfied with the pupils’
performance. They showed better interests to what was bring presented and could
focus during the lesson. Including videos or gif pictures in the teaching aids could
help in raising the pupils’ attention.
