Coefficients:

1. Coefficients refers to alphabets rather than numbers. One is bound to face coefficients instead
of numbers as they progress to higher class, meaning into the core of mathematics

Rules:

1. Addition
X + X = 2X
Here just like numbers the coefficients also gets added, for example we write 1 + 1 = 2, similarly
we add the times of coefficients appears. Here in this situation as there are two Xs and thus the
result is 2X.
2. Subtraction
2X – X = X
Here just like simple subtraction, for example 2 -1, we subtract this math including a coefficient.
3. Multiplication
There are two types of multiplication which includes a coefficient
a. Multiplication using numbers:
1X2=2 X x 2 = 2X

1+1=2 X + X = 2X

b. Multiplication for powers:

This may look kinda weird however this is how maths like these are done. When there is a
multiplication sign, “x” added to a coefficient it genuinely refers to powers. For example
X2 x X2 = X4
Here where there is a multiplication sign, we add the powers to get the result, For example
X3 x X3= X3+3
= X6
4. Division:
For coefficient this only deals with powers. In terms of powers, division results in subtraction of
powers for example:
X5 ÷ X3 = X5-3
= X2
Multiply using brackets:

We cannot use multiplication everywhere and thus we use brackets to identify that we are multiplying.
For example:

 3 (6) = 3X6=18
 2(40) = 2X40=80

We can also multiply more than one number at one time using the bracket. For example:

3(2+3) =15

=(3X2) + (3X3)

=6+9

= 15

3(X+Y) =3X+3Y

=(3xX) + (3xY)

=3X + 3Y
