IV.PROCEDURES
A. Introduction Prayer
Checking of attendance

“Unlock the Mystery Box”


The students will have to answer the question in each mystery box
to unlock it and claim their prize. Once all the mystery boxes were
unlocked, the topic will be revealed.

B. Development
The mystery box will direct the lesson to the topic, “Subject-
Verb Agreement”.

The teacher will introduce a friend, “Starla”, who will be with


the class in their journey around the world in search for the missing
stars. Since English, as a universal language, is used world-wide,
the class will visit several countries to help “Starla” find the other
stars. In each country that they will visit, there is a rule that they
need to follow to gain stars.

United States of America is the first stop.


Rule #1: If the subject is singular, the verb must be singular.
If the subject is plural, the verb must be plural.
Examples: She writes every day.
They write every day.
Singapore is the second destination.
Rule #2: When the subject of the sentence is composed of two or
more nouns or pronouns connected by and, use a plural verb.
Examples: The doctoral student and the committee members write
every day.

Malaysia is the third country to visit.


Rule #3: When there is one subject and more than one verb, the
verbs throughout the sentence must agree with the subject.
Examples: Interviews are one way to collect data and allow
researchers to gain in-depth understanding of participants.

Finland is the fourth stop.


Rule #4: Intervening words like together with, in addition to, along
with, as well as, including and similar constructions following the
subject do not affect the number of the subject.
Examples: The student, as well as the committee members, is
excited. Strategies that the teacher uses to encourage
classroom participation include using small groups and
clarifying expectations.

Argentina is the fifth destination.


Rule #5: When two or more singular nouns or pronouns are
connected by "or" or "nor," use a singular verb.
Examples: The chairperson or the CEO approves the proposal
before proceeding.

South Africa is the sixth and last stop.


Rule #6: A few indefinite pronouns such as All, Any, None and
Some may be singular or plural DEPENDING on the noun or
pronoun they refer to.
Examples: Some of the apples were sold.
Some of the flour was spilled.

C. Engagement
These are the questions to be answered in each stop.
1. United States (is, are) a native speaker of English.
2. Skyscrapers and modern lifestyle (make, makes) Singapore
a well-known country.
3. Malaysia' s Mulu Caves on the island of Borneo (is, are) one
of the largest cave systems in the world and (shelter,
shelters) millions of bats and swiftlets.
4. Finland, as the world’s happiest country, (has, have) the
second longest tunnel in the world.
5. Bolivia nor Paraguay (declare, declares) independence from
Spain, and the area that remained became Argentina.

forests. South Africa has: deserts, wetlands, grasslands,
bush, subtropical forests, mountains and escarpments.

After the world-wide journey, the students will apply what


they have learned by answering the following:

2. Either Bill or the managers (own, owns) a car.
3. The football players (run, runs) five miles every day.
4. Eric and Bob (cook, cooks) dinner for their family.
5. They (walk, walks) to school every day.
6. The committee (work, works) hard for better schools.

8. The family (is, are) occupied with their individual problems.
9. The faculty (is, are) preparing their presentations.
10. The class (is, are) going to the fieldtrip.
D. Assimilation The students will answer a short quiz via google form.
Directions: Choose the correct verb that will complete the sentence.
1. Each of the girls (look-looks) good on skis.
2. Everybody (was-were) asked to remain quiet.
3. Neither of the men (is-are) here yet.
4. Nobody in the class (has-have) the answer.
5. Each of the girls (observe-observes) all the regulations.
6. All of the milk (is-are) gone.
7. Most of the seats (was-were) taken.
8. The orchestra (is-are) playing a hit song.
9. The orchestra (was- were) asked to give their musical
backgrounds.
10. The student, as well as his teacher, (was-were) going on the field

Performance Task:
 From the research title which the students think of, they will
choose 3-5 terms that will be part of their “Definition of
Terms”.
 They will use expanded definition and will observe correct
subject-verb agreement in their definitions.
 They will be graded based on:
- Content- 2 points
- Writing Conventions- 3 points
- Total of 5 points each term

V. REFLECTION The teacher will ask the students about the importance of
knowing subject-verb agreement rules in writing definition of terms in
a research study, as well as in their daily lives.
