Interview Proper
For this activity, I interviewed my uncle who is the owner of Serrano’s Eatery in
Cumadcad, Castilla, Sorsogon through video call. These are his responses to the
following questions:

1. Where did the entrepreneur get the idea for the business?
Answer: Serrano’s eatery originally was my parent’s business idea. After I left
my job in Quatar and got married, our parents decided to let us take over the
business.

2. How did the entrepreneur identify or recognize the business?

Answer: I took the opportunity of having the perfect place in Cumadcad to put
up the business. It was located in a busy market environment where many
people are always hustling and in a rush. Having an eatery is very convenient
for these working people to have lunch, or to eat any meal on anytime of the
day, especially on busy days.

3. How did the entrepreneur screen, evaluate, and assess the business
opportunity?
Answer: The location was already a great opportunity to put the business on.
Like I said, there are so many people/markets that come and go in the area
that needs a place to eat out on. The other thing that I considered is the
competition. When the business is just starting, there are only few eateries in
the place. Before, it was mostly stores (like hardware, bigasan, pharmacies)
around the place, and the Pamilihang Bayan was just across the street. So,
we took the opportunity and started the eatery, establish the business before
other eatery business took place.

4. How did the entrepreneur transform his or her idea into a business venture?
Answer: I can’t actually answer that for myself since it was really my parent’s
idea to build the business and I just took over the management. But if I’m not
mistaken, they gradually made this business to life when they saw that
opportunity. [I think the opportunity he’s talking about is the one mentioned on
the previous question]

5. What are the characteristics of the entrepreneur?

Answer: Hardworking, gumptious, knows how to manage money & finances,
creative, and risk taker.

6. What are the competencies of the entrepreneur?

Answer: Strategic, innovative, has great people skills and communication skills,
and problem-solver.

The interview was very insightful and aside from that, I got the chance to
reconnect and talk to my uncle once again. He also mentioned that his business was
one of the industries that has been affected by the pandemic, especially the early
months of the quarantine. But he still had done different alternatives and strategies to
still make money despite being in the pandemic. Here is my insight on the interview, as
provided by the guide questions above:

1. Do you think the entrepreneur is successful? Why? Why not?

Answer: Yes, because for the past years he had run the business very well.
Although of course the business sometimes experiences challenges but he
still managed to find ways to get back up and continues to run the business
through the years.

2. If you were an entrepreneur, would you like to do business with the

entrepreneur you interviewed?
Answer: Yes, I think. Because I really wanted to be in a food business ever
since and having to work with him will make me learn about things like how to
run a business and etc.

3. Do you feel inspired by this entrepreneur to become an entrepreneur

yourself? Why? Why not?
Answer: Yes, because aside from wanting to have a food business myself, I
have seen them work hard, strategize, and manage the business for quite a
while now. Honestly, I haven’t admitted it to them but, they were actually my
inspiration and I got my likings to food business from them.

4. Do you think this entrepreneur loves the job? Why? Why not?

Answer: Based from what I see from them and how he answered my
questions. Yes, I think so.

5. Any other questions or concerns you want to ask the entrepreneur?

Answer: So far, I didn’t add anymore questions aside from the guide
questions given.
