Weighted Assessment: Writing a Story

Choose one of questions below, and write a story on it.

1. The Collector The Traveller

2. Write a story in which a community changed because of a tragic event.

3. “How I wish the letter never came.” Write a story using this line either to begin or end
your story.

4. The Lie

5. Study the scene in the photo below. Write a story in which this scene is the climax of
the story.

Task Requirements:

1. This is an individual assessment task.

2. Your story should be
i. Between 900 – 1,000 words. You must not exceed 1,000 words. Any material
exceeding 1,000 words will not be assessed.
ii. Original, and not have been reproduced elsewhere.
3. Type your story using Arial 11 point font and 1.5 line spacing. Remember to include
the word count at the end of your story.
4. You will be given time in class to:
i. Plan, write and improve your story
ii. Give feedback to each other

Submission of work:

1. Date of submission: Wednesday 12 May 2021, 2359h. Submit your work on Ivy.

Penalty:

1. Students must uphold integrity in their work. Students who plagiarise another
person’s work will be subjected to disciplinary measures, including penalty to the
work.
2. There will be a penalty for late submission of work (refer to school assessment
policy).

Timeline:

Term 2 Week 6: 26 – 1. Issue the following:

30 Apr a. Task sheet
b. Template for first page
2 x 60 min period c. Rubrics
d. Metacognition 1
2. Clarify task
Fri 30 Apr: Gap day 3. Planning:
a. Story line / story summary – 3 to 4 sentences of what the
story is about.
b. Submit via Ivy end of the first lesson
c. Complete plot

Term 2 Week 7: 3 – 7 1. Write draft of story.

May 2. Upload draft via Ivy at the end of 2nd period. (Story should be
2 x 60 min periods about 80% completed.)
3. Peer review and editing.
Mon 3 May: Labour
Day public holiday * Work on story at home.

Term 2 Week 8: 10 – 1. Work on story in class.

14 May 2. Complete story and submit final copy on Ivy
