IMPLEMENTATION OF MODULAR DISTANCE LEARNING SY 2020 - 2021

SURVEY RESULTS AND ANALYSIS

With the initiation of Mrs. Carolyn R. Reyes, the school head of Legua Integrated

School in the academic year 2020 - 2021, the school floated survey questionnaires that aimed

to gather information regarding the implementation of Modular Distance Learning. It was

given to the learners and their guardians or learning facilitators by their respective classroom

advisers.

I. The New Learning Setup

The general population described their learning experience in the new modality as

satisfactory. The respondents explained that they were able to cope to modular distance

learning. Further, the learning facilitators added that the students are able to accomplish their

learning tasks and assignments. It was also noted that they have established several coping

mechanisms such as note taking and close reading to address the challenges they have been

facing.

However, some respondents raised their concerns on its effectivity and efficiency

compared to a regular face-to-face setup. It was mentioned that the instruction of a real

teacher would be of more effective compared to independent learning or with the learning

facilitators who lack training. In summary, though modular distance learning is a viable

alternative, parents and students still view the traditional classroom set-up as more effective

and sustainable learning modality.

II. The School

Regardless of the new learning setup, the school holds its function to deliver quality

education and service. With the coordination of the teaching and non-teaching staff, the

school facilitates the production and distribution of the modules. To support this, majority of

the respondents answered that they are satisfied with the service that the school and its staff is

providing. However, some respondents also asked for more visibility of the teachers in the

community to help them in facilitating the learning experience of their children.

III. Challenges

A. Learners

The general population of the students shared similar sentiments on the challenges

that they face in the new modality. The first one is the difficulty to understand their lessons.

The second one are the distractions that are present in their new learning environment.

B. Learning Facilitators

As for the learning facilitators who are generally the parents, guardians, or siblings of

the students, majority answered negatively on their experience as the learning guide of the

learners. They explained that they are having a difficult time managing the behavior of their

children. Further, they are struggling to deliver and supplement lessons due to the lack of

mastery of the various subject that they must teach. What makes this worse is the lack of

internet connectivity which is supposed to become the learning resource that could alleviate

the difficulty in understanding advanced topics. Finally, the time conflict between their work

and livelihood have become a hindrance which resulted to poor guidance to the pupils and

students.

IV. Intervention

Since the major problem that the learners and learning facilitators are facing is the

difficulty in understanding and teaching the lessons, the teachers conducted more home

visitations and made more presence in the community. The teachers in the primary level

visited learners who had difficulty in literacy and numeracy. The other teachers, especially

the secondary level teachers, conducted home visitations for the administration of the

performance tasks of the learners. These efforts were made in compliance with the protocols

of the local government to ensure a safe delivery of learning assistance.
