ASPIRE ZONE

The Aspire Zone Foundation, also known as Doha Sports City,[1] is a 250-hectare (2.5 km2)
sporting complex located in Al Waabdistrict of Doha, Qatar.[2] It was established as an international
sports destination in 2003 and in the following year an educational centre for the development of
sporting champions (Aspire Academy) was opened.[3] The complex contains several sporting venues,
mostly constructed in preparation for the 2006 Asian Games.[4]
These sporting venues include:

• Khalifa International Stadium, a 50,000-capacity stadium primarily used for soccer matches.
• Hamad Aquatic Center, an Olympic-size swimming pool.
• The Aspire Dome, which is the world's largest indoor multi-purpose sports hall and contains 13
different playing fields.[5]
Aspire Zone is also home to Doha's tallest structure, the Aspire Tower, and is adjacent to Villaggio
Mall, the most popular mall in Qatar.
Aspetar, a specialised orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital, staffed by some of the world's
leading sports medicine practitioners,[citation needed] is among the facilities of Aspire Zone.
The complex is an important feature in the 2022 FIFA World Cup bid submitted by the Qatar Football
Association, and was central to the Doha bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics put forward by
the Qatar Olympic Committee.

CORNICHE

The Doha Corniche is a waterfront promenade extending for seven kilometers along Doha Bay in
the capital city of Doha, the state of Qatar. [1]
Running parallel to the Corniche is Corniche Street, a main thoroughfare which connects Doha's
emerging West Bay business district with the south of the city and Doha International Airport. It was
formed following extensive dredging work carried out during the late 1970s and early 1980s which
reshaped Doha's coastline.[2]
The Corniche used to be an empty stretch of walkway in which the only visible edifice was
a Sheraton Hotel, but development has increased in the 21st century with dozens of skyscrapers
being built towards the north of the Corniche. The area's development is part of the economic boom
the country has been experiencing and part of an effort promote tourism, which was facilitated by the
2006 Asian Games. Many of Doha's landmarks are found along the Corniche which begins near
the Museum of Islamic Art, and ends at the Sheraton Park near the distinctive pyramid-
shaped Sheraton Hotel.[2] Al Rumaila Park is also nearby.
It's extremely popular for walkers, runners, skaters, joggers and people who enjoy an evening
stroll. [3]
