Game: MAIN IDEA CIRCLE MAP
Direction: The teacher will paste different pictures inside a circle on the board and the class will guess what
the picture all about.

Ask: Do you know the proper way of washing your hands? Everybody stand and we will going to dance.

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson (ENGAGE 1)


Show a picture to the class.
Say: Let’s take a look at the picture below.
Activity A: What do you think is the picture all about?

Activity B: Now, let’s try to describe the picture above. Let’s check the possible description below.

 O They are fighting against the Covid-19 virus outbreak.

 O Doctors deserve a big hand from people around them.
In our game, Main Idea Circle Map and the Activity A, it only tells what the picture is all about. That is the
main idea. If we talk about the main idea, we are referring to the topic of the picture presented.

In activity B, what you’ve checked describes the picture that we are talking about. These, we can call as
details or supporting details of the topic.

Direction: Let’s read the paragraph.
Doctors are considered as our new heroes.They are fighting against the COVID-19 virus
outbreak.They are brave to do their job during the COVID-19 pandemic. Doctors deserve a big hand from
people around them.

In the paragraph, the main idea is presented in the beginning of the paragraph. It tells more about “the
doctors.” It is the main point or topic of the writing.

Let us read the first sentence..


1. Doctors are considered as our new heroes. –that’s the key sentence
A Key sentence is a sentence that expresses the main idea or topic of the paragraph. It mostly comes
in the beginning of the paragraph.
2. They are fighting against the COVID-19 virus outbreak.
3. They are brave to do their job during the COVID-19 pandemic.
4. Doctors deserve a big hand from people around them.
These sentences are the supporting details. It provide information that explains the main idea.

Distribute the activity sheet to the group. The teacher will provide tarpapel and activity sheet with strips of
paper with sentences written.
Direction: Identify the main idea and supporting details from the strips given and paste it on the paper to form
a paragraph.

Direction: Let us read the paragraph below then identify and underline the key sentence and then
circle each of the details that support the main idea. After that we will write the main idea of the paragraph.

Malugay Elementary School is the name of my school. It is one of the small scale schools in our
municipality. My school has the most talented teachers that bring out the best from the students. There are 98
students in my school and they are obedient, respectful and hardworking.
My school is meters away from our house so I just walk to get there. Our school building is not very
big. There are 7 rooms in my school and they are all well ventilated. The surroundings in my school are very
colorful and the plants are growing beautifully.

G. Finding Practical Applications of Concepts and Skills (ELABORATE)


Group I – Find Me (graphic organizer)
Direction: Read the supporting ideas provided in your activity cards, after that arrange and paste it on the
graphic organizer. Then, think and write the main idea that best describes the paragraph.
“Prevention is better than cure.” The threat of the COVID-19 virus is still around
us. To prevent us from getting infected of it, we must follow the Inter-Agency task Force
(IATF) guidelines and protocols. We must use a face mask and a face shield whenever
we go out especially in crowded areas. Keep your distance with anybody else. Always
bring with us our own ballpen and alcohol or hand sanitizer. Avoid touching our face and
make it a habit to wash our hands with soap and water regularly. If possible, avoid going
out if it is not necessary. Inform your doctor at once when you have symptoms of
COVID-19 virus.

Group II – Write Me (Ice Cream)


Direction: Your buddy will read a text to you. Listen well. Then, identify the key sentence to get the main
idea and the supporting details of the paragraph by writing them in the graphic organizer.

Lato is one of the edible seaweeds commonly grows in the sea. It is a green, grape-like
appearance. It can be eaten raw as a salad with tomato, onion, and vinegar. Latong Cuyo is the most
common type of seaweeds in Puerto Galera.

Directions: Using the graphic organizer. Identify the main idea and supporting details of the paragraph below.
Water is one of the basic needs and necessities of man. We cannot live without water. We
need water to satisfy our thirst and cool down our body. We also need it to replace fluids that go
out from our body. We use water to wash and cook our foods. We cannot brush our teeth and take
a bath without water. It is used in washing clothes and dishes, cleaning the house, vehicle, and
many more. Plants, animals, and other living things also need water.
