At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:

3. Explain the 7-segment display and its LED arrangement.
4. Wire a manual decade counter using the 74LS47 IC on the experiment
board.
5. Compare the output of the 74LS47 IC to the truth table.

Activity: The teacher will discuss the following;
a. State and explain the 2 functions of 74LS47 IC.

2 FUNCTIONS OF 74LS47 IC

 DECODER- this IC decodes the 4 binary data inputs into 7

decoded data outputs.

 DRIVER- this IC drives the decoded data into a7-segment

display.

 Explain the pin configuration of 74LS47 IC

 Explain the 7-segment display and the LED arrangement.

- It is made of seven different segments which is the light

emitting diode. These are arranged in a way to form numbers by
displaying different combinations of segments. The binary
information is displayed using these seven segments.

 Different combinations of segments:

 Demonstration on how to wire a manual decade counter.

 Steps to be followed in wiring Manual Decade Counter:

1. Toggle the power switch to off position.

2. Connect LT, RB1, RB0 to the positive of the power supply.
3. Connect input A of the 74LS47 IC to the manual switch 0.
4. Connect input B of the 74LS47 IC to the manual switch 1.
5. Connect input C of the 74LS47 IC to the manual switch 2.
6. Connect input D of the 74LS47 IC to the manual switch 3.
7. Connect the Vcc of the 74LS47 IC to the positive of the power supply.
8. Insert the 9V battery to the logic experiment board.
9. Recheck your connection for possible errors.
10.Energize the Manual Decade Counter by toggling the power switch to on
position.

 Compare the output of the IC to the truth table.
