Good day! To our teacher, Professor Ernesto Tumacole, to our panelists, Dr. Benjamin
Villagonzalo, Dr. Julhusin Jalisan, and Dr. Heracelia Canoy.
I am Ibri Isabel Toro and I would like to greet you all a pleasant day.
We will be presenting our research study in titled EFFECTS OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON
SMALL BUSINESSES IN DUMAGUETE CITY’S BOULEVARD AND PORT AREA.
Together with my groupmates, Ms. Narlie Jade Cadorna, Ms. Nathalie Señerez, Mr. Patrick
Suan, Ms. Glydell Tinambacan, Ms. Frenchette Mei Tobias, and Ms. Maria Carmela Uy.
To start of, (Basa PPT) Our highly respected panelist, our group is now open for questions,
suggestions and recommendations for improving our research. Thank you.
Possible Questions:
1. What is your research study all about?
In this research, we studied the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the small businesses of
Dumaguete City particularly in the boulevard and port area. As we all know, the COVID-19
pandemic and the implementation of lockdowns by the government has brought a huge challenge
on the economy, mostly on the small businesses because they had to deal with a variety of issues
like the decrease in demand, increase in prices, the decrease in sales, and even the temporary
closure of their businesses.

2. Why did you choose this study?

We chose this study because, the COVID-19 pandemic is an issue that affects us in many ways.
And thus, we wanted to know or find out how this COVID-19 pandemic that we experienced or
continues to experience really affected the livelihood of the small business owners situated in the
boulevard and port area.

3. Why did you choose this particular title for your research?
Actually, our first title was “How the COVID-19 Pandemic Affects the Small Businesses in the
Philippine Ports Authority – Dumaguete City”, but then Philippine Ports Authority is quite
broad, and it’ll be complicated for us.
4. What is the scope of your study?
This study was confined to 30 small business owners in the boulevard and port area, Dumaguete
City. This study was focused only on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on their small
businesses.

5. Limitations
There were limitations associated in gathering the data. First, most of these small business
owners could not understand English. The researcher had to translate the statements in the
questionnaires into the Visayan language for them to understand. With this set up, the
respondents might have not been able to express their opinion well. Thus, this will serve as a
limitation.

6. Why is your research significant?

(The answer to this research question should outline the impact of your research on your field of
study. You may talk about the new insights contributed by your research and its impact on
society.)

10. What did you find in your research?

In our study on the “Effects of COVID-19 pandemic on Small Businesses in Dumaguete City’s
Boulevard and Port Area,” we found that

12. What is the validity of your findings?

14. What sources did you use for data collection?
To understand the impact of the current tax regime on skilled workers, we interviewed 150
subjects in 5 months. Additionally, we referred to databases and scholarly works available by
authors who had previously conducted such studies for previous tax laws and rates.

16. How will your findings contribute to the related area of knowledge?

Our study on medicinal analysis of herbs conveys information about various medicinal benefits
of chamomile in treating depression and contributes to the area of medicinal botany.

18. What sampling techniques did you use?

In our study “Impact of consumption of soda on the health of teenagers in Corpus Christi”, we
used area sampling to divide the city into several areas and then selected some clusters for our
sample group.

19. What are the dependent and independent variables in your research?

In research, several variable factors impact your study. You can describe these variables.
Independent variables have values which are not affected by other variables in your study. On
the other hand, the dependent variables have values that change with changes in the independent
variable. For example,

In our study on “Impact of online tutoring on test scores”, the independent variable is the nature
of the classes i.e., online and the participants' test score is the dependent variable.
20. What areas do you suggest for further research?
As a researcher, you should be able to describe what further areas are open for research with the
addition of your research to the field. This can act as a starting point for future researchers. For
example,

In my research on “Effectiveness of Acetaminophen in treating sports induced injuries”, I

discovered that administering Acetaminophen is not very effective for treating joint pains such
as the knee. This further suggests measures for the regulation of Acetaminophen in the
production of painkillers for body pain and the search for alternative compounds.

Why do you think your research is reliable?

- Our research is reliable because we used questionnaires that we ourselves made, we talied
the results ourselves,

What are your recommendations after your research?

- I believe the government should have done better. The recommendations in our paper
include

What are the statistical tools used by you?

What is the relevance of your work to other researchers?

What is the impact of your research?

What is the objective of your study?

What type of research did you use?

- Quantitative Research

Descriptive research is a type of research that is used to describe the characteristics of a
population. It collects data that are used to answer a wide range of what, when, and how
questions pertaining to a particular population or group.
Descriptive survey research uses surveys to gather data about varying subjects. This data
aims to know the extent to which different conditions can be obtained among these subjects.

What design?
- Description quantitative research

Sampling design
- Purposive Sampling – also known as judgment, selective or subjective sampling
- Is a sampling technique in which researcher relies on his or her own judgment when
choosing members of population to participate in the study.
- Convenient Sampling – a method adopted by researchers where they collect market
research data from a conveniently available pool of respondents

Research Instrument
- Researcher-made questionnaires

What can you recommend to the next researchers?

- Na sana, if sila na mag research, isali sa kanilang research kung ano ang kanilang
ginawang mga strategy to cope up with the challenge brought by the pandemic
How does your study help your intended readers or other people?
- Importance, ano ang maitutulong nito sa community
