INTRACLERGY CONFLICTS AND THE CAVITE MUTINY

The Intraclergy conflict and the Cavite mutiny has different versions from different sources.
However, the said historical event is one of the relevant happenings back in 1872 that paved the way for
the freedom of our country in 1898.

Our ancestors fought the unruly and abuses of the Spanish colonial regime for the freedom we
have as of today. But they have done it in a very hard way as most of them shed their blood and died
because of the reforms they are fighting for. By looking from different source of what is really happened
back in 1872 we could understand that it was all precipitated by the removal of the personal benefits to
the workers such as the tax and force labor exemptions on order from the governor general Rafael de
Izquierdo. The iron-fist governance of the General also made the Filipinos to move and turn away from
the Spanish government. The mutiny was quickly cooled down, however general Izquierdo take this
event as the opportunity to trap those Filipinos who had been calling for governmental reform. He put
all the blame to the native clergy and even told to the king that so called rebels which is being led by the
priest wanted to overthrow the Spanish government for their own intentions. As a result, various
number of intellectual Filipino were accused and afterwards, the GOMBURZA were publicly executed.
However, the execution of the three-priest served as a fire burner to the patriotic calls of the Filipinos
during that time that started reforms and eventually resulted to independence.

Thus, looking back on these events made me personally realized how our ancestors value our
land as well as our nationality, currently there are different versions of accounts on what is really
happened in 1872. But, one thing for sure is that the battle that our ancestors fought was mainly the
reason for the freedom we have today. These events show how our patriotic desire as a Filipino can
make a difference from the injustices our society has back then that we can also have done today and
for tomorrow.
