The structure of a building is generally a passive


element which is provided to separate the
occupier from the outside environment
 Everything inside a building which makes it safe
and comfortable for humans and processes is a
building service
 building services are dynamic elements
incorporated into the structure to:
 Convert the internal environment into a comfortable
and secure one
 Enable processes

gas, renewable sources etc)

 Determine the overall building services strategy
 Determine basic layout and requirements of all building services
 Inform and obtain client’s approval for specialist Building services
designs, surveys e.t.c.
 Initiating and driving new efficient technologies/techniques adoption
 Identify statutory requirements for building services
 Nominate/appoint a suitable building services
engineer for the project
 Monitor the detailed design, installation and
commissioning of all building services
 Liaising with the specialist consultant to identify suitable materials,
equipment and appliances to be used
 Initiate and drive through building integrated
Health & Safety measures
