PILOT TESTING ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT

(MODULAR DISTANCE LEARNING)
S.Y. 2020-2021

The rapidly evolving threat around the COVID-19 virus is impacting all sectors across the
world. One of the most affected segments of our society that has been shaken by the global pandemic
caused by the novel coronavirus, is the education sector. However, government find ways making
education accessible to all, under any circumstances. Education must not stop; it is the basic right of
an individual to be educated for the improvement of himself and the society he is in. Therefore, in this
time of pandemic, we must adhere to the DepEd’s modalities on how to deliver the best education to
the learners.
In adherence to DepEd Regional Memorandum No. 053, s. 2020 “PILOT TESTING OF
APPROPRIATE LEARNING DELIVERY MODALITIES OF BASIC EDUCATION LEARNING
CONTINUITY PLAN (BE-LCP)”, San Rafael Alto Elementary School joined conduct of pilot
testing of Modular Distance Learning among the learners. The activity started on July 27, 2020 and
ended on July 31, 2020.
Based from the result of surveys conducted and in consideration of the learner’s context,
access and readiness, and the context of the area where the school is located, Modular Distance
Learning is the most appropriate and applicable learning delivery modality to be used for School Year
2020-2021.
The school conducted orientation to teachers, parents and community on the utilization of
Self-Learning Module, Learning Activity Sheets and other learning resources. After which, the school
prepared the learners’ kits and identified the depositing and receiving area which is the barangay hall
and through the help of the identified knowledge bearers learning materials were being received ,
carried and distributed to the learners.
Learners received and accomplished the learning tasks as contained in SLMs/LAS with the
support of the parents and teachers. Constant monitoring of the activity was done by the teachers.
Retrieval of learners’ output was conducted Friday afternoon through the helped of the knowledge
bearers. Teacher checked, recorded, and analyzed learners’ output.
School conducted monitoring and evaluation of the process of the activity. School gave
feedbacks, enrichments, and remedial activities.
Through the support of the entire school community and stakeholders, the school was able to
implement this activity successfully. But despite of the smooth implementation of the activity the
following issues and concerns were drawn based from the monitoring of teachers and feedbacks of the
parents and learners.

ISSUES AND CONCERNS:

 Insufficient printing materials to produce Self-Learning Modules (SLMs) and Learning
Activity Sheets (LAS).
 Parents cannot fully grasp or confuse with the new system of learning.

 “In-person” delivery of printed materials to the homes of the learners is a bit risky on the
health of everyone.

 Struggle to create a wide variety of effective learning materials that cater to a broad range of
needs for different learners.

 Lack of direct supervision by teachers and the varying levels of ability among learners to
comprehend and process lessons being delivered to them may result in poorer outcomes.

 Added weight on parents who will more or less have to cope-up with juggling work, house
chores, family matters, while at the same time assisting if not monitoring their children’s
distance learning.

 More problematic and challenging for parents who have lower level of literacy, less formal
education or have never gone to school.

 Kids have short attention spans and because of its adults have to supervise but unlike teachers
who are trained to develop rapport with their pupils, parents may not have the skills or
patience to fill that role.

 There are learners who are not as interested and enthusiastic as others which have trouble in
transitioning from “face to face learning’ to “modular distance learning’.

 Distance learning is a self-paced to some extent, keeping pupils motivated enough is another
issue.

 Hard to navigate learners’ lesson contents especially in higher grade which tend to decrease
the effectiveness of learning.

 Learners experience cognitive overload as teachers may over deliver content and activities.
