1.0 Scope
This method statement covers installation, testing and commissioning and start up and all
documents, inspections, certificates, etc., necessary to regulatory approval of the CRAC.
This report specifies features for:
 Floor standing PDX CRAC unit
 DX remote condenser unit.
The equipment to be supplied shall be installed so that all provisions for easy access for
inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair.

3.0 Responsibilities & Interfacing


• Site Manager / Construction Manager:
• Coordination with Technical Office Manager to ensure timely availability and approval
of materials, design mixes in collaboration with Quality Manager, and approved
drawings.
• Assigning areas of responsibility of Senior Site Engineers.
• Monitoring adherence to project schedule.
• Expediting areas of concern to best achieve project schedule.

• Senior Site Engineers:


• Liaison with Technical Office Manager for advice required regarding changes, missing
information, clarifications.
• Liaison with Quality Manager concerning the above as required.
• Assigning areas of responsibility of Site Engineers.
• Overseeing overall concrete works progression and readiness to pour.
• Site Engineers:
• Ongoing liaison with Surveyors concerning overall setting out and placing of embedded
items.

• Assigning areas of responsibility to Foremen.
• Continuous monitoring of all aspects of concrete works, i.e. rebar installation,
couplers, spacer blocks, embedded items, formwork and false-work erection, cover to
rebar, cleanliness, availability of vibrators with back-up units, concrete ordering, slump
testing, production of cubes/cylinders for compliance testing and early stripping,
concrete placement (rate, drop heights, layer thickness, compaction, finishing), curing,
stripping, post concreting inspection, determination of necessity for repairs, selection
and overseeing the performance of concrete repairs in accordance with prescribed
methods and products.
• Inspection of all aspects of the concrete works.
• Liaising with QC Engineers regarding works progression and availability for hold point
inspections.
• Liaising with Mechanical and Electrical Engineers for mechanical and electrical
embedded items.
• Surveyors:
• Setting out the location and elevation of concrete elements.
• Checking the locations and elevations of embedded items.
• Monitoring cut-off levels of concrete pours.
• Verifying as-built lines and levels of constructed concrete elements.

• Quality Control (QC) Engineers:


• Ongoing liaison with Site Engineers concerning concrete works progression and
adherence to stipulated requirements of approved drawings, method statements,
approved materials and ITP.
• Ongoing inspection of all aspects of the concrete works.
• Assigning areas of responsibility to QC Technicians.
• Ensuring that the Inspection & Test Plan (ITP) has been briefed to and is then followed
by the construction team.
• Hold point inspection of concrete works, i.e. rebar prior to formwork closure and
readiness to pour.

• QC Technicians:
• Continuous monitoring of and real time reporting to QC Engineers of ongoing concrete
works.

• Laboratory Technicians:
• Receipt and checking of concrete delivery tickets.
• Sampling of concrete for workability and other testing as may be required.
• Sampling of concrete for cubes/cylinders, as applicable.
• Maintenance of cubes/cylinders prior to compressive strength testing.
• Compressive strength testing of cubes/cylinders and reporting of results.

• Technical Office:
• Technical and engineering documents management.
• Development and gaining approval of Issued drawings, materials and other technical
submittals and their distribution as required.

4.0 Material

Material should be as per approved material submittal and specification.

5.0 Procedure

5.1 WORKS TO BE DONE BY MAIN CONTRCTOR:


1. To provide storage facility and lockable store room for lift materials near the
elevator shaft.
2. To provide carnage and hoisting facility for elevator equipment.
3. Construction of all elevator areas, such as elevator shafts, water proofing of the
elevator pit, machine room with proper access door, as per approved drawings
4. Hoarding and protective screening to seal off shaft entrances at all floors.
5. To provide necessary holes on shaft front wall for the cables and recess for the
fixing of Hall button and signalization equipment's as per approved drawings.
6. Installation of lifting hooks for machine room ceiling as per approved drawings.
7. To provide machine room A/C and permanent lighting
8. To provide permanent shaft and pit lighting as per EN 81 regulations
9. To provide switched socket-outlet in pit and machine room.
10. Painting of elevator machine room walls, ceiling and floor.

11. To provide necessary isolated switches for single and three-phase power supply
with earthing for each elevator at elevator machine room.
12. To provide wiring to interconnect security room remote control devices to
elevator machine room and elevator shafts.
13. To provide potential free contacts for fire alarm system to each elevator machine
room to initiate automatic return of elevators under fire condition.
14. To provide standby power and transfer switch signals whether power is from
normal or emergency supplies, to the elevator machine room.
15. Cleaning, grouting, making good, touch up after completion of installation.
16. Installation and dismantling of scaffolding into the elevator pit for fixing the 1st
set of guide rails.
17. To provide adequate lighting and 3 phase power supply for the both elevator and
the installation hoist (power may be permanent or temporary).
18. Finished floor level (F.F.L) marking at each floor adjacent to the elevator door
opening and providing accurate building grid lines preferably at template floor/main
floor.

5.2 SITE PREPARATION AND PLUMBING


1 General site survey – check overall dimensions of elevator shaft, landing raw openings and
machine room.
2 Open the necessary material cases and shift the materials to the storage and machine room
after checking as per packing list.
3 Arranging of suitable storage area for installation tools.
4 Ensure that protective covering is provided for all landings.
5 Set the plumbing template on the machine room level with respect to grid line.
6 Drop the plumbs and secure the plumb wires to the plumbing support in the pit.
7 Check and record the measurement of the shaft at each level and prepare Plumb chart.
8 Decide the centreline of car, counterweight and clear opening and their correspondence to
the grid line
9 Re-adjust the template position if required and fix it properly.
10 Prepare the plumbing charts for each elevator as before and record the same.

5.3INSTALLATION OF 1ST GUIDE RAIL & PIT EQUIPMENT


1 Construct temporary scaffolding to a height of 8mts measured from the bottom of the pit.
2 Mark the guide bracket location as per layout drawing from the plumb lines and fix the the
two lowest brackets on the walls with expander bolts. In case of common shaft for several
lifts, install first the dividing beams and then the guide rail brackets onto the beam.
3 Clean the first and second guide rails and fix the fish plates to the top of the guide rails.
4 Install electric hoist.
5 Lift the first guide rails into the pit.
6 Install the 1st set guide rails and align the guide rails by using the aligner.
7 Lift the next guide rail in to position and align the joint with jointing tool.
8 Align the guide rail lines.
9 Remove the temporary scaffolding platform.
10 Hoist the tension weight for the compensating rope in the elevator shaft and lower it to the
pit.
11 Fix the tension weight to the correct position as per Lay-out drawing and align
12 Fix the tension weight for over speed governor as per Lay-out drawing.
13 Fix the buffer for the elevator car in correct position.
14 Align the buffer for verticality and install buffer support.

5.4 CAR SLING,CAR FLOOR & OVER SPEED GOVERNOR

1 Install and secure car-supporting clamps on the guide rails.


2 Install the bottom beam of the car sling over the guide rails and lower it onto
the car installation clamps. Align the bottom beam.
3 Fix the lower end of the sling upright to the lower beam at both sides.
4 Install the top beam of the car sling to the uprights.
5 Mount the temporary sliding guide shoes on top and bottom and align the
sling assembly.
6 Fix the isolation profiles and the travelling cable hanger to the bottom beam
and align them.
7 Lift the car floor onto the isolation profiles.
8 Position the cabin floor to the landing plumb line and check it is horizontal on

all planes.
9 Fix the car floor properly.
10 Install raw cabin or temporary platform.
11 Install temporary handrail.
12 Fix the Over speed governor (OSG) on the machine room floor/temporary
machine room according to the Lay-out drawing and install the governor rope.
13 Adjust and ensure the operation of the safety gear by operating the safety
gear arm.
14 Lower the main installation hoist to the working platform floor and attach the
hoist to the car sling top beam at one side. Attach the hoist hook to the other
side of the sling.
15 Route the cable and power supply carefully.
16 Install the safety pedal on the working platform and connect the rope from
safety gear arm to the pedal.
17 Check the operation of safety gear. Whenever the working platform is
stationary the safety gear must always be engaged and hold the working
platform. Check the operation of the safety gear daily

5.5 GUIDE BRACKETS AND GUIDE RAILS

1 Drive the working platform/cabin by hoist to a suitable height to fix the next guide rail
joints.
2 Engage the safety gear and connect the safety / parking chain.
3 Lift the next guide rail and place the guide rail in position. Fix the guide rail to the fish
plate with hand tight bolts. Lower the sliding clamp and remove it. Align the joint and
tighten the bolts.
4 Drive the working platform to the next wall fixing bracket level. Fix the guide rail to the
bracket and align by using the aligner.
5 Install the guide rails up to the top of the elevator shaft.
6 Mark the center line of the counter weight (CWT) guides on to the rear wall using a
radius stick.
7 Mark the CWT plumb lines position as per layout drawing and hang the plumb lines to
the pit.
8 Install the four no lowest CWT guide brackets in position, lift the first CWT guide rail
and fix it to the guide brackets with correct guide clips.
9 Set the alignment tool and align the guide rails, check the Distance between Guides
(DBG). Tighten the bolts and nuts.

10 Continue the CWT guide rail installation from the car floor and working platform until
all the CWT guide rails have been installed.
11 Lift and fit the CWT buffer in position and fix it to the pit floor with anchor bolts.
12 Install CWT buffer supports and check the oil level of the buffer. (If necessary add)
13 Install CWT frame and position it as per layout drawing.

5.6 LANDING ENTRANCES AND DOOR PANELS


1 Position the plumb lines for landing doors according to Lay-out drawings.
2 Mark the floor FFL and the center line of entrances clear opening on the shaft wall.
3 Fix the landing sill support brackets to the entrance wall.
4 Install the door sill and check the sill level and correct height, align with respect to plumb
lines. Check the distance from the car guide rails.
5 Install the toe guard to the sill.
6 Fix and adjust the frame so that the top part reference holes are in line with plumb lines.
7 Fix the railing and check the alignment.
8 Fit the fire trims.
9 Install the door panel under the hanger
10 Install the closing weight into the channel and cut the surplus wire.
11 Adjust the anti-tip rollers.
12 Check the lock contact functions.
13 Check the function of emergency opening lever.
14 Stuff mineral wool provided at the top and sides of the door.
15 Ensure the protection against damages and entry of water/foreign particle into the lift
shaft.
16 Check that the door moves freely and closes properly.

5.7 MACHINE ROOM INSTALLATION


1. Lift the machine with bed plate to the machine room and position it.
2. Position the machine with respect to rope drop center as per Lay-out drawing.
3. Position the rubber pads as per drawing and align the machine.
4. Locate the control panel according to the machine room Lay-out drawing and fix
the panels To the machine room floor with anchor bolts.
5. Install the trunking according to the layout drawing.
6. Lay the travelling cables and shaft bundles from controller to shaft.
7. Lay the necessary cables inside the trunking between controller, invertor panel
and main Switch.
8. Hang the travelling cable into elevator well.
9. Do the main roping.
10. Test the lift for installation drive.

5.8 SHAFT EQUIPMENT AND ELCTRIFICATION

1 Install the trunking and conduit according to the elevator shaft layout drawings.
2. Install the shaft bundles until the lowest landing floor.
3 Fix the car top connection box to the car roof.
4 As per the wiring diagram route all the cables to connection box and connect it.
5 Install the deceleration and final limit switches as drawing.
6 Install the oscillator switches on the car top.
7 Do the connection for all gate lock.
8 Install the emergency alarm and pit switch and do the wiring.
9 Install the floor signalization and do wiring.
10 Route and connect the car & counter-weight buffer contact cables to the shaft
bundle.
11 Route and connect the over speed governor rope tension weight contact cables to
the shaft bundle.
12 Place all the covers of the connection boxes and trunking.
13 Fix the car door sill to the car floor and check the level of the sill and the clearance
with landing sill.
14 Install the car door header to the front panel and align. Check the height with
respect to car sill.
15 Install the car door header to the front panel and align. Check the height with
respect to car sill.
16 Install the car door. Check the alignment and couple doors together.
17 Install the decoration car panels and align.
18 Fix the light, fan and intercom unit and do the wiring.
19 Do all car related wiring.
20 Install the landing call station and indicators and do the wiring.

6.0 TESTING AND COMMISSIONING

1 Ensure correct tightness of all fasteners.


2 Connect the earth wires to the earth bar below the control panel connection board.
3 Insert the plugs of the travelling cable to the corresponding sockets on the control panel
connection board.
4 Check the earthing and insulation of all circuits.
5 Readjust the resolver angle and run in service drive.
6 Check the clearance for all shaft equipment.
7 Check all mechanical and electrical safeties.
8 Load the counterweight and do the balancing of car and counterweight.
9 Loading of counter weight.

10 Align and adjust all shaft switches.
11 Check the car and counterweight Run-by clearances.
12 Check that the tension is equal on main ropes.
13 Check the car door operation and clearances with landing doors.
14 Adjust the load-weighing device.
15 Make the shaft set up drive.
16 Run the elevator in normal drive.

7.0 SAFETY

7.1 PRECAUTIONS

1 The prevailing local safety codes and rules as well as site regulations must be obeyed at all
time.
2 Use of personnel protective equipment (PPE) like safety shoes, helmets, safety harness,
gloves, safety glasses etc.,
3 Covering of all openings that are not used in the machine room during working.
4 Landing door protection at all times
5 Ensure the clear access to the machine room.
6 Availability of First Aid equipment.
7 Ensure proper access to the site.
8 Adequate lighting inside the shaft and machine room. Only proper sockets and cables to be
used for electrical works.
9 Proper storage for materials
10 Check the condition of the hand tools and tackles used.
11 Use of warning signs where applicable.
12 Nobody is allowed to work below in the shaft when the work is carried out above.
13 Close and secure machine room doors when the machine room is unoccupied.
14 Check that rust protection crease is removed from the rails otherwise the safety gear will
not operate correctly.
15 Ensure that the daily safety gear checks are made

7.2 INSPECTION

1 Ensure the machine room door is lockable.


2 All landing doors must be locked when the car is not at level.
3 Check the operation of safety device, suspension elements and their attachment.
4 Check the safety chain switches.
5 Traction test with empty car.
6 Operation of top and bottom limit switches.
7 Drive time supervision test.
8 Counterweight buffer test.
9 Braking test
10 Load test.

11 Main voltage insulation resistance.
12 Safety chain insulation.
13 Short circuit test.
14 Prepare the test report and record all values.

8.0 HANDOVER
8.1 INTERNAL HANDING OVER

1.1 Will be carried out once the installation and testing is completed.
1.2 Installation supervisor and maintenance supervisor check the lift and complete
Installation/Service hand over form.

8.2 HANDOVER TO CLIENT

Submit the test report and hand over the lift for beneficial use.
