DOORDARSHAN’S EXISTING DTH SET UP

2.1- Facilities at Doordarshan Todapur earth station

The present DTH Platform is up-linking 59 TV channels, 22 Radio channels and 2 DWDS
channels in "Free- To- Air" mode. The present uplink has 5 streams in MPEG 2, DVB-S
configuration. Out of the 5 streams, 3 streams are carrying (13+1) SD channels per stream
and are equipped with Tandberg make Compression equipment. The remaining 2 streams
are carrying (10+ 1) SD channels per stream and are equipped with Scopus make
Compression equipment. All the 5 streams are carrying 4 or 6 radio channels per stream at
present. Stream 4 and 5 are also carrying one DWDS channel each comprising of an audio
channel along with associated private data channel.

Following are the facilities at Doordarshan’s DTH Todapur earth station:-

o Receiving facility to downlink signals from various satellite transponders.

o Baseband and compression facility for further processings of down linked signals.

o Monitoring facility to monitor signal after downlink and uplink and for confident
monitoring i.e. between chains after various stages.

o RF and AUPC facility for up-conversion the signals into desired Ku band uplink
frequency and to control uplink power in case of need.

o UPS system for round the clock smooth uninterrupted operation with out any
breakdown.

o Air conditioning system to maintain adequate temperature environment for the

equipments installed in baseband and compression room, monitoring room, HPA
room and UPS room.
2.2- Antenna and Receive system

Up link and downlink PDAs (Parabolic dish antennae) are installed in a dish farm located at
earth station. For down linking there are 15 PDAs out of which 7 are redundant and for up
linking there are 2 PDAs in which one is redundant. Details are given as:-
