MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL AND
ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS OF BUILDING
BUILDING UTILITIES 2
• Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic
Systems
• Electrical Systems-
– electricity is the movement of subatomic particles
(electrons or charged particles) that is attributable to the
existence of a charge.
– The movement of these infinitesimal masses is caused by
the attraction of masses with unlike charges and the
repulsion of masses that have like.
– Masses that are oppositely charged, one positive and one
negative, are attracted toward each other and masses that
are similarly charged, either positive or both negative,
have a repulsive force between them.

• Electrical Systems- within the context of
architecture, it is a network of conductors and
equipment designed to carry, distribute and
convert electrical power safely from the point
of delivery or generation to the various loads
around the building that consume the
electrical energy from the service provider.

• Electrical Systems
• In terms of electricity generation, 41.4% of
the electricity demand is met by
geothermal energy, 28% by coal (NCR),
11.4% by hydro, 15% by natural gas and
0.1% by wind, solar and biofuel. In terms
of installed capacity for power generation
Hydro is 63.2%, 35.1% is geothermal ,
1.1% is biomass and 0.6% by wind and
0.1% solar.(Jul 10, 2018)

BUILDING UTILITIES 2

• A sheet metal enclosure

used to supplement wiring
spaces at meter centers,
distribution centers,
switchgear, switchboards,
and similar points of wiring
systems. The enclosure
has hinged or removable
covers for housing and
protecting electrical wires,
cable, and busbars.

• Electrical Systems: Wire gutter/Meter Base

BUILDING UTILITIES 2

• is a component of an electrical
distribution system which divides an
electrical power feed into branch
circuits, while providing a protective
circuit breaker or fuse for each circuit, in
a common enclosure. A panelboard
services to protect branch circuits from
overloads and short circuits.

An electrical junction box (also known

as a "jbox") is an enclosure housing
electrical connections. Junction boxes
protect the electrical connections from
the weather, as well as prevent people
from accidental electric shocks. (utility
