This Standard Work Instruction is for the SLS-1 of the ECRD-E. For details
on troubleshooting equipment, please refer to the ECRD-E/F Operations and
Maintenance Manual.Intouch Content ID: 4324935. Before performing SLS-1,
check Life Status Computations for SLS-2 in RITE. It may make sense to perform
SLS-1 and SLS-2 simultaneously.

Make sure there is no damage (nicks, cuts or blemishes) on the new O-rings and
back-up rings before you use.

Do not remove the bobbin (T5013986) from the original packaging until you
install it. Installation must be done in a humidity controlled environment.

Perform SLS-1 on the ECRD after any of the following occurs:

• If the ECRD-E has been unintentionally exposed to any operations exceeding

it’s specifications: Temperature > 400 degF, Pressure > 20,000 psi, SWL >
8,000 lbf, Corrosive (H2S, acid) environment.
• Release or attempt-to-release of the ECRD.
• ECRD has been used in twenty (20) logging jobs.
• After five (5) perforation detonations (based on each detonation being a 10
ft, 3-3/8-in HSD gun).

The small diameter rod sections must be straight and concentric for the ECRD to function
properly. A bent actuator rod (100055420) or a damaged spring (B039939) will result in a
failure to ECRD release.

Examine the actuator rod (100055420) and spring (B039939) to make sure there are
no bends, scratches, cuts and corrosion.
5. If the actuator rod (100055420) or the spring (B039939) are found damaged, replace
the parts
6. Inspect the free length of thee spring (B039939) with caliper. Replace if the free length of

Potential Severity: Major
Potential Loss: Assets

Failure to check the bobbin assembly may result in unintentional pull off or failure to release.

Inspect the solder joint on the quartered bobbin assembly.

Quality Note
The bobbin assembly T5011996 (ERS) and T5013986 (ECRD) could have a manufacturing
defect that compromises the strength of the bobbin. This is indicated by the loss of material
on the BeNi strip used to wind around the bobbin or reduction in the soldering volume.
This may cause an unexpected release of the ERS or ECRD under perforating, severe
sampling or excessive mechanical shock.

2. Inspect the electrical contacts on the heater.

Quality Note
The ECRD bobbin (T5013986) might have a loose socket (H115555) and/or short shrink
tubing (E019266). The loose socket can cause intermittent bobbin resistance readings
and can cause the bobbin not to fire due to an open circuit. Short shrink tubing can cause
electrical arcing from the socket to the housing when high voltage is applied.
