4 Disassemble the Tool (15 min)

The inner cartridge assembly contains strong magnets that may cause injury
to personnel and may damage the magnets if not handled carefully. Keep
personal electronics devices (watch, mobile phone, etc.) away from the cartridge
assembly.
SRFE\SRFE Doc-TBT\\3.7\Release Date:06-Dec-2017\EDMS UID: 1661865748\Produced: 06-Dec-2017 13:03:37

Cleaning must not damage the base metal. Be careful while cleaning the tool
parts throughout the procedure.
Do not use a brush to apply grease. Using a brush may leave fibers that may
lead to seal failure.

11 Inspect Housing (10 min)

Inspect the wear band at the top of the housing. If the wear band has worn away
completely, the housing must be replaced. If the housing fails this inspection, it
must be junked, and further inspection is not required.

Step Action
1. Inspect the housing (100982105 / P046131) for cracks, wear or pitting.
Examine visually each surface for any indication of corrosion, mechanical damage and
cracking. Verify the presence of the wear bands on the upper and lower heads. If the wear
bands are absent, the housing must be junked.

2. Turn the selector switch to Ω position.
Measure the resistance between the upper
head contact spring (P334866 / H334866)

the procedure given in the maintenance
manual (InTouchSupport.com No

3. Turn the selector switch to V DC.

Connect one probe to upper head contact
spring (P334866 / H334866) one probe to
mass, and slide a metal object (such as
a C-spanner) along the body and verify
voltage fluctuation (~ 1 mV).
Replace the high impedance coil
(100989387 / P0464161) if test fails.

Note
The exact voltage deflection will vary
based on the C-spanner used and the
speed it is moved at. If some deflection
is observed, and the coil resistance
measured in the previous step is correct,
the CAL-B is working correctly.

4. Turn selector switch to CCL position and press yellow SEL/ON function button.
Volt unit should be seen in display. The display will show O.L..
SRFE\SRFE Doc-TBT\\3.7\Release Date:06-Dec-2017\EDMS UID: 1661865748\Produced: 06-Dec-2017 13:03:37

Connect the probes of the multimeter to the upper and lower contacts.
The meter reading will indicate the breakdown voltage of the diode. The meter reading
should be within the range of 6 V to 8.5 V.
Replace the 2 × diodes (P377647) if test fails. Refer to the maintenance manual
(InTouchSupport.com No 5268974) for the repair procedure.

5. Repeat the test to check the diode assembly with opposite polarity. Reverse the probes
touching the upper and lower contacts.
Meter reading should read within the range of 6 V to 8.5 V.

lead from the power supply and set the voltage to 15V. Re-connect the positive lead to the
power supply, and increase the current limit until 700 mA is being supplied. The multimeter
should read between 7.92 V and 8.2 V.
If the voltage remains at the set voltage of approximately 15 V, one of the diodes is faulty
and not passing current. If the voltage drops to 0 V, there is a short-circuit in the assembly.
Replace the diodes (P377647 × 2) if either test fails.

Note
• The supply voltage will drop from 15 V to ~ 8 V once current reaches around 50 mA.
This is normal and expected.
• If the supply voltage cannot be adjusted with the current limit at the lowest setting, set
the voltage to 0 and set the current limit to 700 mA. Connect the CAL-B and increase
voltage observing the current, until 700 mA is being supplied. The supplied voltage
should be between 8.2 V and 8.8 V.
