1.1 Health
Some commonly used lubricants, solvents and degreasers may contain toxic
chemicals or compounds. Material Safety Data Sheets are available from the
manufacturer of these products. These Data Sheets describe risks involved and
SRC-Wireline \Dan Markel\InTouch ID 3013184\6.1\Release Date:08-Feb-2010\EDMS UID: 27903678\Produced: 08-Feb-2010 20:04:10
precautions to take for each chemical. Steps to minimize these risks include:
1.2 Safety
1. Explosives
In addition to the explosives used in the gun, there is an E-153 Detonator
(with 5 grains of HNS explosive) placed inside the Release Bolt in the
lower section of the Deployment Head. After the Deployment Head has
been assembled, the Release Bolt is contained and isolated similar to being
installed in a Safety Tube. Remember that with any Detonator the electric
wires must never be unshunted unless placed in a Safety Tube or inside a
fully contained Release Bolt Section. Never assemble or disassemble the
Release Bolt Section near an RF source. Do not transport the Deployment
Head attached to a gun or with an E-153 Detonator inside. Follow all the
safety procedures related to Detonators when working with Release Bolts.

1-2 TTCG-DA, TTDH-BA, TTPG-BA / Safety 1-2
2. Trapped Pressure
To recock the Deployment Head, it is necessary to pump oil through the
top section with a pressure of up to 5000 psi. Always wear safety glasses
during this operation. Follow all safety rules related to pressure testing.
Before disassembling the Deployment Head, make sure all three vent ports
are open. Never unscrew a bolt if it feels too tight, this could be an
indication of internal pressure.
3. Compression Springs
The energy required to deploy the gun is supplied by a spring (Belleville
Washers) in the Deployment Head. Do not attempt to remove any bolt in the
Deployment Head while this spring is compressed.

1.3 Environment
Greases used to lubricate, as well as solvents used to clean, may contain
materials which are considered hazardous waste.
Often pipe dopes contain metals, including lead, which are dangerous to
health and environment. Whenever possible, purchase lubricants which are
environmentally safe. Avoid using unknown materials from the rig.
The table below lists the lubricants recommended in this manual and their
intended application.

2.1 General
The Pivot Gun* is a Through-Tubing Gun System which outperforms any
Through-Tubing gun presently on the market. It has a charge performance
comparable to a casing gun and can pass through restrictions as small as
1.78 in. The Pivot Gun accomplishes this by using large charges which are
SRC-Wireline \Dan Markel\InTouch ID 3013184\6.1\Release Date:08-Feb-2010\EDMS UID: 27903678\Produced: 08-Feb-2010 20:04:10
assembled parallel to the gun axis (Figure 2-1 Pivot Gun). When the gun is at
the proper depth, the charges are pivoted 90° (deployed) before firing.
The Pivot Gun consists of a fully expendable gun and a Deployment Head which
provides control of the gun. The system is designed so only the Deployment
Head is recovered after the gun is fired. The system also includes a safe
retrieval capability which enables the gun to be pulled (for any reason) after
it has been deployed.
The following file codes have been assigned to the Pivot Gun System:

The Detonating Cord and the Electric Wire are routed inside the Carrier in a
serpentine pattern as shown in Figure 2-2 Expendable Gun. The Cord and the
Wire are kept fixed with respect to the Carrier.
The Capsule Charges are attached to the gun Carrier by Pivoting Screws.
Two Actuator Rods run along the Carrier, one on each side of the charges,
as shown in Figure 2-2 Expendable Gun. The Charges and Actuator Rods
are connected together by a Linkage. When the Rods are pulled upward, the
Charges rotate about the Pivoting Screws and the back of the Charges come

in contact with the Detonating Cord. The Carrier has built-in tabs called the
Cord Tab and Cord Guide which ensure proper contact between the back of
the Charge and the Detonating Cord.
An electrical Detonator is placed at the lower end of the gun since the gun shoots
bottom-up. The Carrier, Rods, Bottom Nose and Charges shatter into small
harmless pieces which fall to the bottom of the well.

by a Release Bolt. When the Release Bolt is “fired” (with positive current
polarity), the spring relaxes, exerting a force on the Piston and Rods. The
movement of the Piston is controlled by restricting the flow of oil, Univis J-26
(B033556), on the other side of the Piston. It takes 3 to 10 sec to fully deploy
the charges (90°). Once the Charges have been deployed, they are shot using
negative polarity. In the event of a misfire, the gun can be easily retrieved by
pulling up in the tubing. The Linkage of each Charge breaks and the open
charges close one-by-one as the gun enters the tubing.

Also refer to gun loading for a hostile environment in Section 3.3 Hostile
Environment.
Pivot Guns have been successfully run in wells with 60% H2S in gaseous phase
and 30% H2S in solution. The well conditions were about 250°F and about
9000 ft.
The Pivot Gun can be run in high H2S concentrations if the following special
precautions are taken.
1. After loading, fill the entire gun with DC-111 Silicone Grease (B023642).
2. At the wellsite after arming, thoroughly spray the following areas with red
Glyptal paint (B026626).
Note
These areas must be dry and free from oil (if necessary, thoroughly clean
with Freon) before painting.
3. Use Release Bolt for H2S service (H448668), Compression Adapter for H2S

14. Unscrew the Rod Connector Assembly (H712418 & H712601) from the
Tension Rod. Open end wrenches can be used (7/8 in. and 5/16 in.) on the
flat surfaces of the Rod Connector Assembly and on the opposite end of the
Tension Rod respectively to loosen the parts. Remove the Compression
Spring (B034546) and the Pressure Piston (H712416) from the Tension Rod.
15. Remove three 1/4-20 x 1/4 in. Low Profile Socket Head Cap Screws
(H543858) using a 1/8 in. Allen Wrench from the Spring Housing Assembly
(H712412 and H712420)/Housing Adapter (H712411) connection. Remove
Housing Adapter.
Hint
To remove Housing Adapter: Connect the Lower Sleeve/Crossover Adapter
to the Housing Adapter and place a 3/8 in. or less diameter rod through the
holes and pull the Adapter from the Deployment Head.
16. Remove the 22 Belleville Washers (B034377) around the Tension Rod. Note
that the Pressure Piston (H712416) is still inside the Lower Spring Housing.
This can be removed later if necessary.
17. Open Vent Screw on Port #1 to remove any trapped oil. Remove three
1/4-20 x 1/4 in. Low Profile Socket Head Cap Screws (H543858) using a

18. Place the Washers in a clean container. Unscrew the Deployment Piston
from the Tension Rod by using open end wrenches (1-1/8 in. and 7/16 in.) on
the flat surfaces of the Deployment Piston and the Tension Rod respectively.
Store the Deployment Piston/Restrictor Assembly in clean Univis J26 Oil
so the Restrictor will not get contaminated with dust or dirt. To remove the
Restrictor from the Deployment Piston, use Removal Tool (B032828).
19. Disconnect Upper and Lower Spring Housing by removing the three 1/4-20
x 1/4 Low Profile Socket Head Cap Screws. A Pressure Piston should still
be trapped in the Lower Spring Housing. The Piston can be removed by
using the Bottom Rod.
20. To remove the Restrictor from the Deployment Piston, two Extraction Tools
(B032828) can be used to remove the Restrictor. The Extraction Tool with
the short threaded end with the cylindrical weight should be used to remove
the upper bushing of the Restrictor. The Tool with the long threaded end with
the cylindrical weight should be used to remove the lower segment of the
Restrictor. The check valve assembly can be removed by unscrewing the
Check Valve Set Screw (H712575) from the Deployment Piston.

The stack should be as close as possible to reaching 20 in without exceeding
20 in. Also, do not use more than 101 pair of Washers, even if the total stack
height is less than 20 in. As a result, the actual number of pairs of Washers
may vary from tool to tool. Note that a groove on the Tension Rod changes
can be found a distance of 20 in from the Deployment Piston. This groove
can be used as a reference point. See Figure 3-17 Groove on Tension Rod

25. The Head is now ready to be hydraulically checked. Install an Oil Fill
Adapter in Port #3. Connect a hydraulic pump to the Oil Fill Adapter. Pump
the tool to 5000 psi.
Note
The stroke bottoms out around 4500 psi; there is normally a sudden jump in
the pumping pressure between 4500 and 5000 psi.
After reaching 5000 psi, adjust the Rod Retainer/Bottom Rod Assembly

approximately 1-1/2 in from the end of the Crossover Adapter. Since the Rod
Retainer slides freely on the Bottom Rod, make sure the Rod Retainer is
SRC-Wireline \Dan Markel\InTouch ID 3013184\6.1\Release Date:08-Feb-2010\EDMS UID: 27903678\Produced: 08-Feb-2010 20:04:10
pushed as far away as possible from the Crossover Adapter when taking this
measurement. If the Bottom Rod/Rod Retainer Assembly cannot be adjusted
to 1.50 in, any length between 1.45 and 1.55 in is acceptable. See Figure
3-30 Adjust Rod Retainer for Maximum Stroke of 1.50 in Also check the top
end of the assembly; the taper on the Tension Rod should be very close
(within 0.06 in) to being flush with the Housing Adapter.
Note
The range from 1.45 to 1.55 in is due to the tolerance stackup over the length
of the tool. It is best to use a setting of 1.50 in when possible.
26. Bleed off the pump pressure. The Bottom Rod should retract smoothly back
into the Crossover Adapter. If a sudden jump is observed, then there is still
probably some air in the Spring Housing Assembly. The typical time for
the Bottom Rod to move the full stroke range is from 2 to 8 sec. The Rod
Retainer should also be within 0.25 in of the Crossover Adapter when the

stroke is complete (at 0 psi). Pump up the Head again to 5000 psi to verify
the Rod Retainer is 1.50 in from the Crossover Adapter. If any problems are
observed, repeat steps 8 through 20.
27. To determine the exact position of the Switch Block on the top threaded
end of the Tension Rod, the Deployment Head will have to be pumped to a
pressure such that the Rod Retainer is 0.60 in less than the maximum stroke.
If the maximum stroke setting is 1.50 in, then the tool should be released
and pumped up slowly until the Rod Retainer Assembly is 0.90 in from the
Crossover Adapter. See Figure 3-31 Verify Rod Retainer Position.
SRC-Wireline \Dan Markel\InTouch ID 3013184\6.1\Release Date:08-Feb-2010\EDMS UID: 27903678\Produced: 08-Feb-2010 20:04:10
Note
The distance for the Switch Setting must be exactly 0.60 in less than the
Maximum Stroke Setting. In this particular case the Maximum Stroke Setting
was 1.50 in. The Switch Setting shown above measures exactly 0.90 in.
28. When the Rod Retainer is in the proper position (0.90 in from the Crossover
Adapter), adjust the Switch Block such that the Pogo Contacts just barely
make contact with the surface of the Housing Adapter with the pair of rounded
slots on the Switch Block aligned with the two holes on the top end of the

35. Attach the Upper Sleeve (H712410) to the Housing Adapter. The end of the
Sleeve with the larger inside diameter goes on to the tool first. Avoid pinching
the Wire Harness while installing the Upper Sleeve. Install three 1/4-20 x
1/4-in Low Profile Socket Head Cap Screws (H543858) using a 1/8-in Allen
Wrench to secure this connection.
36. On the opposite end of the tool, coil both wires around a small diameter
rod (1/8-in dia). When both wires are completely wrapped around the rod,
remove the rod. The wires should remain coiled.
37. Install a pair of 3/32-in Spiral Pins (B013598) into the end of the Contact
Housing (H712570). Note that numbers are stamped by each hole of the
end of the Housing. Using the three Vent Screw Ports as reference, looking
from the bottom end of the Head towards the top end with the three ports in
the 12 o’clock position, attach the Contact Housing to the lower end of the
Release Block with the #1 hole in the 9 o’clock position, and the #2 hole in
the 3 o’clock position.
38. Install both Insulator Sockets (H712596) of the Wire Harness through the
two holes in the Contact Housing. Thread the white wire (gun detonator
wire) through the “#2 Hole” and the blue wire (Release Bolt wire) through the
“#1 Hole”. See Figure 3-38 Install Insulators and Contact Sockets into the
Contact Housing. Strip 3/16 in insulation off the end of each wire. Crimp a
Contact Socket (H115576) to each wire. Push both Contact Sockets flush
with the surface of the Contact Housing.

The time it takes the meter to switch from 0.052 V to zero V should take between 2 to 10 sec. If the stroke is
faster, examine the O-ring and back-up ring along with the check valve assembly on the deployment piston. If
the stroke is longer than 10 sec, the restrictor may need to be replaced.

4. Choose an edge of the carrier to be the working edge and mark it. This will
help prevent twisting of the cord and wire during loading (Figure 3-48 Mark
Working Edge of Carrier). Each time the carrier is rotated to bend tabs or
place wire, it should be rotated back toward the marked edge. This edge
should not make a full rotation during gun loading.
5. Working up from the bottom, bend the lowest free pair of tabs just enough to
slip cord and wire under them. Push away from the cord rather than toward
it. This way a slip will not result in damage to the cord.
SRC-Wireline \Dan Markel\InTouch ID 3013184\6.1\Release Date:08-Feb-2010\EDMS UID: 27903678\Produced: 08-Feb-2010 20:04:10
6. Slip cord and wire, avoiding twisting, under both the bent tabs. Leave 1/2
in. of slack (Figure 3-50 Slip Cord under Tabs). Bend the tabs back, leaving
enough space for the cord and wire to slide freely.

9. Repeat from step five until the top window is reached. The top window
should be the only empty window in the whole gun.
10. At upper end of Carrier, cut Cord and Wire as shown in Figure 3-53 Cut Cord
and Wire. Although no Charge will be installed in top window, it is important
to route the Cord through the final, upper clips when making up the gun to
the Deployment Head. This will help break up upper end of Carrier.
Always use a sharp knife and cut against a piece of wood or nylon.

11. Use a square Boot (H224153) on end of Cord. String tie and tape to seal the
detonating cord at the top of the gun with silicon rubber tape (B029421) and
covering the rubber tape with self-adhesive teflon tape (E018735). String tie
each end of the seal (Figure 3-54 Install Blind Detonating Cord Boot).
12. Use Safety Meter to check continuity and insulation of gun wire. Visually
inspect Detonating Cord for nicks and cuts.
13. Inspect Actuator Rod to ensure each Charge Linkage rotates freely on tab
and that the rods are not bent or twisted. Measure shooting length from
upper tab (link) to lower tab and cut Actuator Rod (item 8102, H448757) 1-3/4
in. below lower tab (Figure 3-55 Prepare Actuator Rods). Round corners with
a file as is necessary. Rotate each linkage out about 30° and insert Actuator
Rod into bottom end of Carrier.

Note
Actuator Rods come in sets of two, one right and one left. To determine the
correct side, run Rods along carrier. Linkages on Rods should be on the
windows side of the carrier.
Note
For particularly long rods, inspect for bends and twists by laying them on a
flat surface. To correct a twist, place the lower end in a vice and twist the
upper end opposite to the twist.
Note
Coat both sides of the rods with a thin film of DC III Grease (B023642). This
will help minimize the friction between the rods and the charges, and the
rods and the carrier.

16. Install one Pivot Screw (item 8104, B034866) into Charge (item 8001,
H448315) until it bottoms. In second window from top end, insert Charge
perpendicular to Carrier (in “deployed” position) until Pivot Screw snaps into
pivot hole in Carrier. Holes on Charge for Linkages should face top end
of gun.
17. Screw second Pivot Screw (item 8104, B034866) into Charge. Pivot Screws
should be below Carrier OD but still within Carrier wall (Figure 3-57 Install
Pivot Screws in Charge).
Position Charge

Note
Install first few charges along the length of the carrier to support the Actuator
Rods when the clips are removed.
20. On one Actuator Rod only, bend each Charge Linkage outward to prevent
damage to Linkage when Rod is pushed into position.
21. Move the Actuator Rod up and down a few times. Verify that they move
freely. Apply WD-40 lightly between charges and Actuator Rods.
22. Push Actuator Rod downward until holes in Linkages are aligned with holes
in Charges. Make sure that this is correctly done for top and bottom charges.

a physical control of the Detonators.
The cable must be attached to the gun string before the bottom gun is armed.

react to CO2 causing loss of insulation. If the date shift code is not visible,
the pre-1997 Detonators can be identified by a soft transparent insulation
while the newer Detonators are made with a hard gray colored insulation.

7-3 TTCG-DA, TTDH-BA, TTPG-BA / Wellsite Operations 7-3
13. NEVER spud the gun. Do not set down with the gun during rig up or while
running in the hole. Use the Window Support (H712598) in the blank shot
hole at the top of the gun to strengthen the gun.
14. Use CCL-AG (P125542). This will allow the gun circuit to be checked at the
surface with a Safety Meter or Safety Multimeter.
15. Always run a Magnetic Positioning Device (H432202 MPD-LB) with the Pivot
Gun. The charges should be aligned ±90° to magnetic side of the MPD.
16. Always fire gun bottom to top. Firing top to bottom gives poor charge
performance due to Detonating Cord interference. There is also no
verification of a full gun detonation if firing top down.
17. Always shoot full shot density. Lowering shot densities cause excessive
SRC-Wireline \Dan Markel\InTouch ID 3013184\6.1\Release Date:08-Feb-2010\EDMS UID: 27903678\Produced: 08-Feb-2010 20:04:10
debris.
18. Always deploy the gun at the desired shooting zone. Vertical movement of
the gun after deployment may result in partial gun detonations.
19. Older Actuator Rods with oblong holes at the top will not fit the new
Deployment Head. These holes can be modified by drilling open the oblong
holes with a 3/16 dia drill bit.
20. Always run a Tool Saver (PFLJ-AA, H341022), above the MPD. If you
are not familiar with the Tool Saver, more information can be found in the
PGGT-CC manual as it was originally developed for the gun gamma ray.
21. Swivel Head (SAH-G, H712960) is recommended for use above the MPD.
This is the same Swivel required on ALL Coaxial Cable jobs.
22. Always fill the gun void spaces with DC-111 grease in gas wells or when
debris, sand, heavy mud or paraffin is expected in the well. The grease
improves the explosive transfer from the Detonating Cord to the charge and
prevents debris from getting into the gun. A Grease Adapter (H448570) is
available for filling the gun with grease.
23. Deploy the gun in the perforating zone, after depth correlation and shoot.
Do not deploy above the zone and move the gun down. If the gun does not
deploy, move the gun up and down several feet. If the gun still does not
deploy, as a last resort, pull the Deployment Head into the tailpipe of the
tubing; where it will be easier for the gun to open.
24. Avoid passing the Pivot Gun through a previously perforated interval. Burrs
in the casing can damage the gun and cause serious malfunctions.
25. After shooting the gun, do not lower the tool string into the shooting zone.
This may bend the remaining parts of the rods and cause problems entering
the tubing. A overpull of 300 lb [136kg] is normal when reentering the tubing.

7-4 TTCG-DA, TTDH-BA, TTPG-BA / Wellsite Operations 7-4
26. After shooting the gun, especially in underbalanced conditions, wait 5 min
or longer (depending on the pressure surge and the flow of the well) before
attempting to pull the tool string back through the tubing.
27. An expendable Collapse Tube (H623052) is designed to absorb all excess
energy generated from the gun detonation and protect the Deployment
Head from any catastrophic damage. The tube typically ruptures in the
middle section. When the tube ruptures or collapses, it must be replaced for
the following run. When the tube collapses, it is very likely that the pair of
Rod Extensions (H712571) will also be damaged and will also need to be
replaced. Therefore when planning for a job, it is critical that replacement
Collapse Tubes, O-rings (B011968) and sets of Rod Extensions are brought
so that they can be changed out after each run. In some cases, the tube will

1. Attach CCL, Tool Saver, MPD-LB and Deployment Head assembly to cable
head.
2. From inside recorder cab, verify (-) 1 to 10 is greater than 1 Megohm.
3. At bottom of Deployment Head, short #1 to mass. Meter should read total
resistance of cable, CCL-AG and upper diode (1500 to 2000 ohms). Break
connection and meter should read greater than 1 Megohm. The meter
reading on (+) should read greater than 1 Megohm whether #1 is shorted
or open.
4. Connect (+) 1 to 10. Resistance should be greater than 1 Megohm.
Connect #2 at bottom of Deployment Head to mass. Meter should read total
resistance of cable, CCL-AG, upper diode section and lower diode section.
Total resistance should be approximately 7000 ohms.
5. Remove Vent Screw (H448511) from Port 3 in Deployment Head and connect
hydraulic pump to the Head with an Oil Fill Adapter (H712561).
6. With Safety Meter (+) still connected to 1 and 10, begin pumping oil into
Head and monitor Safety Meter. When pressure reaches 1800 to 2400 psi,
the Wire Harness connected to the Pogo Contacts should ground inside the
Deployment Head. Therefore, resistance should change to 1500 to 2000
ohms. Continue pumping to 5000 psi.
7. Turn off Safety Switch, remove key and follow all other safety rules related
to arming a gun.
8. Place E-153 Detonator (P448696) in Safety Tube (H448566) with the wires
extending from the closed tube. Check Detonator resistance. Resistance
should be approximately 50 ohms. Twist ends of leg wires together and
remove Detonator from Safety Tube.

10. Thread the shunted E-153 Detonator wires through side hole of Adapter
Retainer (H712572). Liberally coat Release Bolt with Anti-galling Grease
(B022197) and screw Release Bolt into Adapter Retainer (H712572) until the
shoulder of the Release Bolt lines up with the end of the Adapter Retainer.
11. Place the Release Bolt subassembly, E-153, Adapter Retainer inside the
Safety Tube (H448566). The Adapter Retainer may have six Button Head
Screws (B034482) already attached to it. If Actuator Rod Assembly will
not fit inside the Safety Tube, screw the Button Head Screws closer to the
Adapter Retainer.
Note
E-153 Detonators made prior to October 1995 will need 8 in. of Down Hole
Hook-up Wire (H251618) spliced to the end of the “hot” wire of the Detonator.
Crimp the wires together using a Splice (E021726) and cover it with a
Coupling Seal (P075985). Fill gap with DC-111 (B023642). String tie both

Support goes under the Gun Carrier wall. The outermost diameter of the
Window Support should be flush with the carrier (Figure 7-11 Window

Note
Due to the extra deployment force generated by the TTDH-BA Deployment
Heads, the Window Support must be used on all guns that use the TTDH-BA
Deployment Heads. If it is not used, the top window may buckle during
deployment and may allow enough travel in the Actuator Rods (Pull Rods)
to open the Gun Arming Switch. It would then be possible to fire the Gun
with the Charges in the closed position. The Window Support also prevents
damage to the top of the Gun in the event of accidentally spudding the Gun.

If conditions exceed 280°F (138°C) or 10,000 psi, use a High Temp Detonator
(P285784) and refer to Section 7.4.1 High Temperature Detonator (P285784)
Installation for instructions.
2. Place Nobel Detonator (P190860) in Safety Tube. Follow all standard arming
procedures as described in Safety Chapter of the Wireline Perforating
FOM. With Detonator fully contained inside Safety Tube, unshunt leg wires.
Connect one wire to end of through wire with a Splice (E021726) and cover
with Coupling Seal (P075985). String tie both ends. A BCC connection
may also be used instead of the Coupling Seal. The other wire should be
grounded to lower end of Carrier. Make sure screw head is within gun OD.
3. Make a fresh cut on Detonating Cord (H447050) using the recommended
Detonating Cord Cutter discussed in the Safety Chapter of the Wireline
Perforating FOM. Leave approximately 3 in. [8 cm] of cord extending beyond
end of Carrier. Place excess Detonating Cord in the remnant box.
4. Insert Cord into Detonator and place two Lead Spacers (H448105), one on
each side of Detonating Cord, inside Detonator. Spacers should be flush
with end of Detonator.
5. Crimp Detonating Cord and Spacers twice, 90° apart. The first crimp
should be 1/4 in. [6 mm] from end of Detonator and second crimp should
be approximately 1/8 in. [3 mm] from the first crimp (Figure 7-14 Crimp

Note
A CCL-AG must be used to make the following resistance checks. These
measurements cannot be made using a CCL-L.
2. The analog safety multimeter must be used to check the resistance of the
SWIR to ground.
3. Temporarily place the Safety Switch in “CIS” Position, and with the safety
multimeter measure the resistance between line 1 and mass. The following
represents typical readings:
• E-153 (+) should be 800 ohm to 1200 ohm (1800 ohm at surface)
• Gun (-) should be 800 ohm to 1200 ohm (1800 ohm at surface)
Note
If a digital safety multimeter is used, the measurement should be performed
with Black probe to line 1 and Red probe to mass. Place the function selector
switch in the “–|(–”/CCL position, then press and hold the yellow SEL/ON
button. One field location reported that, on a job with a 6500-m long 2-23ZT
cable, the meter read 0.85 V (single diode) with the gun at 200 ft.
4. Depending on the temperature and depth of the well, readings may vary.
Because of the diode’s resistance, readings will decrease with temperature.

1. Apply current with positive polarity from 0.0 to 1.0 A in 1 to 2 sec and then
hold steady at 1.0 A.
2. It is essential to have extremely good electrical insulation on the cable,
weights, CCL, Deployment Head, etc. All insulation must exceed 10 Mohm.
This should ensure the current (1.0 A) goes completely through the E-153.
3. The current output at the end of the cable must be within ± 0.05 A of the
current reading inside the unit. There must not be any pulsating output or
significant ripple in the DC current.
4. When shooting the E-153, always turn off the shot detection circuit. The kick
in the current can be observed when the E-153 fires. The kick may occur as
low as 0.5 A as the current is being applied from 0.0 to 1.0 A.
