1. Purpose
The purpose of this procedure is to:
- Provide details on tubing punch operation.
- Ensure that mechanical punch steps are followed.
2. Scope of application
This procedure is applicable to Slickline job execution at well site.
3. Responsibility
Engineer or specialist (Work Supervisor) is responsible for this procedure application.
4. Description
1. Conduct a Pre-job meeting with the Client to discuss the Well program of work.
2. Check all tools supplied to the well site to ensure they are complete and in the
required good condition for the operation to meet the program of work objectives.
3. Function test tools on surface prior to running in the hole to ensure that they are
working correctly, as required, for the required Program of work
4. Tubing gauge rings and drift runs will be carried to ensure that there is suitable access
to the programmed required depth outlined in the program of Work as per Procedure.
NOTE: Drift run tool string configuration should be designed to be similar to the
Tubing punch perforator tool string configuration
5. Verify the contents of the Tubing and the Production annulus to determine the HSP
(hydrostatic pressure) if the tubing punch perforation program objective is to establish
communication between the tubing and the production annulus.
Consideration for equalization prior to perforating the tubing is to ensure the tools are
not “shot” up the well if the production annulus pressure is higher than the tubing
pressure at the pint of punch perforation.
NOTE 1: Production annulus contents may be advised by the Client based on Well
completion or production department information.
NOTE 2: Tubing Liquid level should / may be observed during the previously

performed drift run and tag bottom. Well previous history and production performance
data may also assist in calculating HSP in the tubing.
6. Depending on the Program of work objective, a tubing plug may be required to be run
to isolate a lower zone or to enable the tubing HSP to be increased for equalization at
the depth of punch perforation. Install and test a tubing plug as per Procedure
7. The Tubing punch perforator may be run with lower attached tubing (slips) or collar
stops, Or if the plug is set just connect the blind box with 2 or 3feet of stem below the
tubing punch.
OR the tubing (slip) ,collar stops or plug may be set in the tubing prior to running the
Tubing punch perforator. Program requirements may direct either method for setting
and performing the perforation at the required program depth.
8. Record the THP and production annulus pressures. Confirm equalization pressures at
the depth of perforating, adjusting pressures as required.
10. Pull out of the well and lift the lubricator to confirm the successful operation of the
punch perforator.
11. Make-up and pressure test pump lines and carry-out well circulating as per Procedures
.
