The 14 principles of management is I think would be of utmost

importance in my unit as a Police Lieutenant because it provides a
helpful theory to manage organizations.

Among these, discipline and initiative are primordial and

catch-all principles that a manager must observe. Being
disciplined, a manager must conduct himself beyond reproach to
build trust and confidence among and between his subordinates. A
manager who has no discipline will likely violate the law or rules he
is enforcing, which will render nugatory of his duty. Eventually, as
he is being looked up, this may render his personnel disobeys this
set of rules. As the adage goes, discipline must start from me.
Hence, to encourage discipline among your personnel, this must
start from you for them to emulate. On the other hand, a manager
must imbibe initiative among his personnel. Personnel must be
allowed to always look for ways on where and how they could
extend help and encouraged to give their best no matter how small
or big the task is. Managers should coach their personnel, accept
their ideas, learn from them, and together they achieve desired
results.

If one has applied the principles of discipline and initiative,

managers and their personnel will abide by the laws, rules, and
regulations and perform all their tasks efficiently and effectively with
enthusiasm. They will not be yielded to corruption, dishonesty,
fraud, or engaging in any disreputable activities that would
otherwise hinder their focus.

All of the activities helped me to widen my perspective and

understand the basics of management in public safety
organization. The different principles of management by Henri
Fayol and the POLC framework provided a comprehensive
foundation that will guide me to become a good leader and properly

manage the organization I belong. In the same vein, it provided me

an opportunity to develop my skills in public speaking such that I
was able to build confidence to convey my thoughts and ideas.

My class participation was I made a summary and comment

on the topic 14 Principles of management by Henri Fayol.

CRITICISM:

The lectures and activities are all-encompassing. Aside from

we were able to advance our knowledge and skills in leadership
and management, we had built confidence to speak up in public. It
also encouraged participation during the class discussions and
activities. The group work and brainstorming also fostered
camaraderie between and among the group.

As newly appointed PCOs in the PNP Health Service, we can contribute the most
in the process of CONTROLLING. Newly appointed PCOs are expected to be in the
forefront to ensure that providing Health Care Services to PNP personnel, their
dependents and authorized civilians does not deviate from health standards.

Part of controlling must consists three steps, which include (1) establishing
performance standards, (2) comparing actual performance against standards, and (3)
taking corrective action when necessary.

For example, as to the Health Service, performance standards may be measured

through the effectiveness of medical and nursing care plans as manifested by the
recovery or healing of our patients—this can be called as patient satisfaction. We need
to supervise the medical and nursing care plans and procedures and evaluate if these
are properly executed. We must ensure that all our patients are properly assessed to
identify their medical needs, for us to recognize what nursing care plan would address
their needs, implement these interventions and these must be evaluated to identify its
effectiveness. If there are instances that patients are prejudiced because of medical
malpractice, as newly appointed PCO, we must take action to report the same to initiate
corrective measure and let the proper authorities decide on the matter.

As stated, PGS Framework is a holistic approach of management.

Through the PGS, it can be said that the PATROL PLAN 2030 is the solution to all issues
and concerns affecting the PNP because its contents cover the entire scope of policing.
It slated four strategic perspectives for the realization of the PNP objectives which require
adequate and optimal use of financial and logistical resources; motivated and values-
oriented police personnel through developing competence among and between them by
providing necessary schoolings to advance their knowledge and skills; This when attained
will result to the development of a responsive police organization that is capable and
ready to do its mandated tasks—such that it will facilitate improved crime prevention and
solution and community-safety awareness. The end result of which is a community that
is safe to live, work and do business.

Also, we must continue to assess and evaluate these strategies in order to cope with the
challenges brought about by different factors affecting the law enforcement/policing.

To implement and Operational Plan such as OPLAN EXODUS must be signed and
approved. To effect the same, it must be under the authority of a Commander—in this
case, the OPLAN EXODUS is implemented under the authority of the SAF Director.
Having the authority, he is on top of the planning and execution of OPLAN EXODUS and
he has the right to give orders pertaining to the OPLAN.

On the same vein, since he was accorded with the authority to implement the
OPLAN EXODUS, he has also the responsibility over its outcomes or consequences. He
has the responsibility to identify and provide necessary support to make the operation
successful and identify the strengths and limitations of the Oplan and address the same.

Likewise, the word responsibility is attributed to the word accountability. It means

that if things doesn’t go as planned, you cannot blame others, make excuses, twist the
facts, or lie. Instead, you must acknowledge that there is a problem, identify what went
wrong and your role in it, and implement an action plan to minimize (or entirely eliminate)
the chances of it happening again.

In conclusion, the 14 Principles of Management can be used, obviously, to manage

organizations, such as the PNP, these are useful tools for planning, organizational
management, assessment and evaluation of administrative and operational functions,
decision-making, inter-agency and interdepartmental coordination, and efficient use of
financial and logistical resources.

Along with this Ma’am, if I may add, because Henri Fayol did not include it in the
principles, although there must be a subordination of individual interest, I would suggest
that Continuous Education or Career Development for employees must be incorporated.
I think, if our employees are highly capacitated with necessary knowledge and skills, this
will build confidence to perform their task which will facilitate smooth flow of work. It will
also serve as reward for themselves. As a result, they will be motivated to take initiative
in the performance of their job. All these will eventually enable our organization to attain
success.
