CHAPTER I

PRELIMINARY

A. Rationalization of importance of CBR


Critical Book Review (CBR) is a form of writing scientific reports that serve to
review a book for a judgment and perspective of someone from a book. This form of
writing is associated with facts relating to the manufacture of CBR. In CBR listed the
advantages and disadvantages to provide the assessor pandapat corner of the book
reviewed. CBR arranged by certain rules so that the translation of the contents of the
book may be ordered on a regular basis.
With the CBR, it helps the reader to get an assessment of the quality of a book.
CBR to load the big picture on a book so that readers can obtain more detailed
information from identity books, book summaries, weaknesses and advantages as well
as conclusions and recommendations. Additionally, CBR can be used as a guide to
review other books. CBR is also able to provide a useful assessment for the author to
be able to develop his writing is getting better, neat and creative.

B. The Purpose of CBR


Making the CBR (Critical Book Review) aims to:
1. Meets 6 compulsory student assignments while in the 6th half of the school year
2021. The CBR is one of the six mandatory task that must be completed in
accordance with the agreed time between lecturers and students. By implementing a
mandatory duty 6 then the student can take the exam to be held
2. To provide knowledge about the introduction of Advanced Reading Power;
Extensive Reading, Vocabulary Building, Comprehension skills, Reading Faster
based on the contents of the book.
3. Providing an assessment of the book to get the viewpoint of a critic of the book that
is beneficial to the author or the reader.
4. Can be used as reference in making another CBR on the other occasions.
5. Can be used as a material of renewal that can be used by other critics of the book.

C. Benefits CBR
1. Provide knowledge to the reader through the introduction of Extensive Reading to
the reader.
2. Giving an assessment of the book to be taken into consideration.
3. Loading strengths and weaknesses in the book to help readers get a picture of a
book.
4. Loading the identity of books as information about the book is about the physical
condition of the book.
5. Provide a summary explanation of the book so that readers can describe the
contents of the book.
6. Contains suggestion or recommendation that serves to advise the reader through
CBR.

SUMMARY BOOK

A. Part I Extensive Reading

The more you read, the better you read. In Part 1, you will have an opportunity to
develop the habit of reading extensively—that is, reading many books that you choose for
yourself. This will help improve your reading fluency, increase your comprehension and
expand your vocabulary.

B. Part II Vocabulary Building

Research has shown that a strong vocabulary is an essential aspect of reading


ability. In this part, you will develop strategies for expanding your knowledge of
vocabulary, particularly words used often in academic texts.

C. Part III Comprehension Skills


Reading is a complex activity that involves a wide variety of skills. Your ability to
understand and remember what you read depends in large part on your ability to apply
these skills to your reading. Each unit in Part 3 focuses on an essential reading skill for you
to explore and practice. In the Focus on Vocabulary section at the end of each skills unit,
you will also have the opportunity to learn some of the academic words from the unit.

D. Part IV Reading Faster

Reading rate (speed) is a crucial factor in academic performance, but one that is
often overlooked. Reading faster allows you to save time on reading assignments. It also
makes reading more enjoyable so you are likely to read more, and it leads to better
comprehension. In this part of the book, you will work on improving your reading rate.

DISCUSSION

A. Book Discussion
In chapter I discuss about you will have an opportunity to develop the habit of reading
extensively—that is, reading many books that you choose for yourself. This will help

Advantages:
- Every chapter of this book have key words so the readers can find what the
important words in every chapter.
- And also have definitions of reading, before explain every topic in chapter, there
are introduction that give the explaination about what we want talk about in that
chapter.
- Every chapter, explain the topic with well, they can tell the readers about the
chapter so clearly.
- Sometime in this book make the connected with previous chapter so the readers can
remind the topic before and the readers more understood.

- Also in this chapter using the theory of the experts to make a statement that support
what they want to share about.

Disadvantages:
- Sometime we can find that the explaination about the theory it's too much.
- In some parts of the chapter, there are many introductory explanation so that the
reader long to get the gist of the explanation is in the book.
- Its better every chapter have conclusion so the reader an comprehend all of the
material in every chapter with short time.

CLOSING

A. Conclusion

Advanced Reading Power: Extensive Reading, Vocabulary Building,


Comprehension skills, Reading Faster, was designed to meet the needs of students who are
enrolled in pre-college programs, college bridge programs, or advanced reading classes at
the postsecondary level. Consequently, emphasis has been placed on the development of
skills necessary for academic success, including building academic vocabulary. Advanced
Reading Power is divided into four parts such as Extensive Reading, Vocabulary Building,
Comprehension skills, Reading Faster. This book can use as one of resources because this
book contains of informations. The book have advantages and disadvantages. This critical
book review aim to critic the book contains about identity of the book advantages and
disadvantages, discussion, and suggestion & conclusion.

B. Recommendation

After looking about this critical book review there are many things that we get such
as identity fo the book, advantages and disadvantages and also analysis. This paper give
the informations for readers about the book, hopefully this book give the knowledge and
useful as learning specially in critical book review. This review based on written point of
view and as expected this paper can attrach the readers to think critically about a book.
