DISCUSSION
a. Intensive Reading
While the understanding of intensive reading ability is an ability to understand in detail the
contents of the reading completely, accurately and critically on a fact, concept, opinion,
idea, experience, feeling and message. When reading multiple readers often read only one or
only a few of the passages. This has the aim of growing and honing the ability to read
critically.
The purpose of intensive reading is to obtain information from discussion material, besides
that it can also be used as a means in determining a subject matter or interesting subject
from the reading text so that it can be used as material in the discussion.
Intensive reading can also be applied as a means of choosing one or several appropriate
ideas to be discussed with friends. In addition to this method, we can also determine the
material for discussion by making a conclusion from the main ideas and then taking the
essence of the problem.
There are things that need to be considered about the existence of information that is worthy
of discussion, among others, it can add knowledge or insight, has benefits and would be
better if it became a topic of discussion in the community.

time.

content and parts of the reading text

the text

discussing, among others, it can increase knowledge and insight, has benefits and is even
better if it becomes a topic of discussion in the community.
When inferring information or discussion-worthy subjects from a text, you should do the
following:
• Reading carefully will be able to determine what is most interesting about other things. But
it's good if you find the main ideas that exist and then choose the most suitable for
discussion.
• Considering the readiness of the self and the readiness of the discussion partners regarding
the ability to master or understand the material to be discussed. Do not let you determine a
good discussion but you yourself do not understand the problem.
• Consideration of references that belong to discussion participants related to the things to be
discussed.

3.1 Conclusion
Intensive reading is one of the useful strategies in learning and teaching vocabulary, helping
students to understand the meaning of words. Many English learners find that learning new
vocabulary and words is one of the most challenging parts of mastering English.
The purpose of intensive reading is to focus on content and grammatical structure. Teachers
can also take part in the process by reading aloud, asking questions, and asking students to
predict text information. In this way, students get the opportunity to understand the meaning
of a text.
