LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 7

GRADE LEVEL: 7
LEARNING AREA: English
LEARNING COMPETENCY: EN7VC-I-d-6. Identify the genre, purpose, intended
audience and features of various viewed texts such as movie/video clip, trailer,
newsflash, weather report, documentary, and variety show.

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the students are expected to;
a. Identify the genre of a material viewed such as: movie/video clip, trailer, news
flash, weather report, documentary, variety show.
II. SUBJECT MATTER: Genres of Viewing
MATERIALS: Power Point Presentation, Laptop, video clips
REFERENCES: MELCS English 7 Quarter 1 Module 2 (Genres of Viewing)

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
Ask one student to lead the prayer.
 Greetings
The teacher and students greet each other.
 Checking of attendance
Check the attendance sheet of the class by calling students’ name
 Setting the mood
Do classroom routines:
1. Picking up the pieces of paper on the floor
2. Arranging the chairs
3. Sitting properly
4. Reminders
 Review
PICTURE ANALYSIS. The students observe the two first pictures,
understand how they are related and think of the things
that is related to the third picture in the same way as the two first pictures are
related.
The teacher asks the students what are the previous lessons they have
discussed.

ACTIVITY: WHEEL OF FORTUNE!


 The teacher shows different viewing materials (movie/video clip, trailer, news
flash, weather report, variety show and documentary)
 The teacher SPIN THE WHEEL of the random name of her students. The
lucky students will be given 5 seconds to identify the video watched.

ANALYSIS
After that, the teacher asks the following questions:

1. What are differences of clips you have seen?


2. When and where do you usually see these clips?
4. What do you think is the purpose of each clip? Who do you think
is their intended audience?

ABSTRACTION

 Introducing the learning objectives

The teacher uses the analysis questions in the discussion while


presenting the lesson. The following concepts will be discussed.

GENRE
Is a term for any category of literature or other forms of art or
entertainment
It a category or a group
Example:
 Romeo and Juliet belongs to the genre of DRAMA or PLAY
 The Song “Ice Cream” by Black Pink belongs to the K-pop Genre of music

GENRES OF VIEWING MATERIALS


Compilation or group of Materials designed to be seen, watched or viewed.
Some of the Genres of Viewing Materials are
 Movie Clips – a short video from a longer film or movie
 Trailer – are selected group of scenes that are selected to advertise a movie.
It is often called a preview
 News Flash – is a single item of important news that is being broadcasted
separately and often interrupts other programs

 Weather Report – is a systematic statement of the existing and predicted


weather
conditions over a specific area
 Documentary – is a movie, a television, or radio program
that is based on actual records or reports
 Variety Show - These shows include games, dances, songs and other
performances which main purpose is to entertain the viewers.

Valuing

 The teacher asks learners how these viewing materials are relevant to our
situation today.

APPLICATION: LIGHT, CAMERA, ACTION!

 The teacher divides the class into 2 groups.


 Groups will be formed and they will be given similar scenario to reenact. This
can be anything from random scenarios from viewing material.
 The group identify the genre of a material viewed if it is a movie/video clip,
trailer, news flash, weather report, documentary, or variety show and the
group with the best scene wins.

Generalization

 Give chance to the students to ask questions and clarify things regarding the
discussion, share insights or opinions, or add supplements which may further
lead in understanding the lesson.

IV. EVALUATION: GENRE MATCH

Directions: Learners have to study the titles of the materials in Column A and decide or
simply match the title to the appropriate genre used. Write the Letter only.

VI. ASSIGNMENT: Sit down on your television and jot down 10 Titles of the Program
you viewed. Then, categorize each according to its genre. (1/4 sheet of paper)
