Allah states that even though the martyrs were killed in this life, their souls are alive and receiving
provisions
in the Dwelling of Everlasting Life. In his Sahih, Muslim recorded that Masruq said, "We asked 'Abdullah
about this Ayah,
(Think not of those as dead who are killed in the way of Allah. Nay, they are alive, with their
Lord, and they have provision.)
He said, "We asked the Messenger of Allah the same question and he said,
(Their souls are inside green birds that have lamps, which are hanging below the Throne (of Allah),
and they wander about in Paradise wherever they wish. Then they return to those lamps. Allah looks
at them and says,
'Do you wish for anything' They say, 'What more could we wish for, while we go wherever we wish in
Para
dise' Allah asked them this question thrice, and when they realize that He will keep asking them
until they give an answer, they say, 'Q Lord! We wish that our souls be returned to our
bodies so that we are killed in Your cause again.' Allah knew that they did not have any other
wish, so they were left.)"' There are several other similar narrations from Anas and Abu Sa'ld,
Imam Ahmad recorded that Anas said that the Messenger of Allah said,

Ahmad and lbn Jarir col/med this Hadith, which has a good chain af norraNon.
It appears that the marfyrs are af different types, some of them wander in Paradise, and wme
remain dose lo this river by the door of Paradise. It is alw possible that the river is where oll
the souls of the marfyrs convene ond where they are provided with their provision doy and night, and
Al/oh knows best. Imam Ahmad narrated o Hadith that contains good news for every believer that his
soul will be wondering in Paradise, os well, eating
from its fruits, enjoying its delights ond happiness and tasting the honor that Allah has pr-epared in
it for him. This Had1th has a unique, authentic chain of narration that includes three of the Four
Imams. Imam Ahmad narrated this Hadith from Muhammad bin Idris Ash-Shofi'i who norroted it
from Malik bin Anus Al-Asbuhi, from Az-Zuhri,from 'Abdur-Rohman bin Ka 'b bin Mahle that his

(They rejoice in what Al/oh has bestowed upon them) indicates that the martyrs who were killed
in AJ/oh's cause are alive with Allah, delighted bemuse of the bounty ond happiness they are
enjoying. They are a/sa awaiting their brethren, who will die in Allah's cause after them, for they
will be meeting them soon. Th
marfyrs do not have fear about the future or sorrow for what they left behind. We ask Al/oh to
grant us Paradise. The Twa Sahihs record from Anos, the story of the seventy Ansar Companions
who were murdered ot Bir Ma 'unah in one night. In this Hod1th, Anos reported that the Prophet

Hav,ng knowledge " one of the cond,t>on, to have correctness on Tawhid. The one who " ,gnorant about ,t does not have
It, and subsequently does not haveTawhid. The one who does not have Tawhid "not Mushm; how can one beheve ,n
somethmg that he ha, no knowledge about?
The eV11lence for thos condition " m SUrah Muhammed Verse 19 'Know that there " no god but All;ih.'
And the second evidence" the Hadith m Sahih Mushm, 'Whoever does knowmg that there" nogod butAll;ih w,11 enter

something comes after hav,ng behef m ,t and the same waythat knowledge precedes action, we cannot act upon Tawhid
without knowmg about ,t
An important matter regardmg knowledge o!Tawhid" that ,t mu<I precede acting upon thelawhid because havmg
knowl edge" fundamental before one can act. In fact knowledge must precede actions mall matters, and the oppos,te of
that can never be correct. Thos " because the one who performs act, before hav,ng knowledge w,11 worship All;ih (swt) t>ased
upon ignorance and not upon guidance and thus thos w,11 lead h,m to be misguoded from the 'itra1ght path and

ters m the Din. There l'i no doubt that the one who" prevented from ..,.,k,ng knowledge aboutTawhid consequently"
also prevented from acting w,th the Tawhid. And for thos reason the Sah;it>ah (ra) sought knowledge regard mg Tawhid
hrstly before seeking any other type of knowledge.
The very first thmg the Sah;ibah would study l'i the knowledge of Tawhid.
