Prewriting LP1 - Page 2 of 5

Methodology/Instructional Phase: 20:mins

Tell the students that today we are going to trace straight lines. Ask them if they know
anything about lines. Appreciate them if they answer.

Note for teacher: Encourage scribbling first, vertical strokes second, horizontal strokes next, then
finally curved and circular motions. This is the proper developmental sequence of prewriting skills.

Activity 1: Scribbling (5 mins)

Provide a sheet of paper and crayons to each student. Encourage them to scribble on the paper. Some
children might have difficulty in holding a pencil or a crayon properly and may their fist to hold it
instead of using their hands. Help them to hold the pencil or crayon. Let them scribble on the full
page.

Activity 2: Sand Tray Tracing (5 mins)

Make them sit in groups and provide them with sand trays to draw straight lines (vertical, horizontal
and slanted) with their index finger. Direct them not to spread sand out of trays. Ask them to level
the sand with their hands and make straight lines with their index finger again and again. This activity
will help them to draw straight lines in their notebooks.

Activity 3: Tracing Straight Lines (10 mins)

Ask them to open the text book on page no 1 and guide them to trace all the straight lines (horizontal,
vertical, slanted).
Extension SEN: Provide Worksheet no 1 (creative Arts) to slow learners to practice scribbling.
Help them to grip and hold the pencil or crayon properly.
G&T: Provide Worksheet no 2 (Creative Arts) to the early or quick learners.
Plenary: Close the lesson by drawing straight and curved lines on the board again and tell 3 :mins
them which line is curved and which is straight.

Assessment (AFL): Show them flashcard having straight and curved lines. Ask them: “Is 10 :mins
