 400 Series Identification

Tractor Monobloc Number

The tractor serial number is located on the left-hand side of the

tractor, in front of the clutch pedal.

The tractors are numbered systematically and the number gives

information on the machine type, manufacturing year and chassis
serial number.

The plate above shows an example of a complete serial number.

Tractor Serial Number

As well as the Monobloc number the tractors also have a serial number plate, located on
the bulkhead.

 Engine

The engine numbering system consists of up to

fifteen letters and numbers, giving details of build
code, country of origin, serial number and year of
manufacture. The serial number is found on the left
hand side of the engine above the injector pump.

The front axle is identified by a serial number

stamped onto a plate on the right hand side of
the axle casting.

 Running in the Tractor

Experience has shown that the first 50 hours of a tractors operation has significant effect on the
performance and life of the engine. From new, the tractor should be engaged in work which will
load the engine as near as possible to full working conditions, Emphasis should be given on
varying the load to assist in the running in.

If it is not possible to load the tractor, because of the type of work the customer is doing; the
dealer at the end of the P.D.I. checks can use a dynamometer. Full load should not be applied
until the engine temperature is at least 60°C.

1. Use low gears to pull heavy loads.

2. During the running in period, frequently check the torque of the wheel nuts.

3.To ensure good clutch life, care must be taken to bed-in the clutch plates

Note: Approx. 200 hours before tractor develops full power.

ENGINE, FUEL AND COOLING SYSTEMS

Change engine oil and Filter.
Change fuel filter element(s).
Check radiator coolant level.
Check tension of alternator/fan belt.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND INSTRUMENTS

Check battery electrolyte level.

Check battery connections.
Check safety starts switches for correct operation.
Check function of all instruments and wiring.

FRONT AXLE AND STEERING

Change oil in 4WD drive front axle and epicyclic hubs.

TRANSMISSION AND HYDRAULICS

Change transmission oil and filter.

Change oil in the rear axle epicyclic hubs.
Clean rear linkage filter.
Check operation of all hydraulic systems.
Check torque of all wheel and rim nuts and bolts.

CLUTCHES AND BRAKES

Check clutch pedal adjustment.

Check adjustment of brakes.
Check brake fluid level

GENERAL
Lubricate all other points with either grease or oil as indicated in the Operators Instruction Book.
Check that all safety guards are in place, and all safety decals are fitted and readable.
Road test tractor, to check that all instruments and services operate correctly.
