Chapter 1 Introduction

ECP Comfort GP-2000 is a device that cures ischemic diseases safely and
effectively without causing any trauma. It is the combination of computer
information processing and biomedical engineering technology. By pressurizing
the lower limbs and gluteal region through controlling gas bags to work at the
same rate as heart rate, this device can promote blood perfusion of organs in the
upper body in diastole and improve the blood supply of ischemic organs (like
heart, brain and kidney) in the upper body.

1. Indications
◆coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, silent myocardial ischemia;
◆cerebral arteriosclerosis, cerebral thrombosis, cerebral embolism, paralysis agitans,
vertebrobasilar artery insufficiency vertigo, sequela of cerebrovascular accident;
◆hypertension caused by renal ischaemia, oliguresis, uremia
◆eyeground embolism, central serum chorioretinopathy, central serous retinopathy, ischemic
neuropathy;
◆idiopathic deafness
◆diabetes caused by pancreatic arteriosclerosis
◆prevention of ischemic diseases, after prevention and cure of PTCA or CABG
◆acral embolism, thromboangitis obliterans and other acral ischemic diseases.

2. Contraindications
◆aortic valve insufficiency
◆bleeding tendency in the whole or part of the body
◆Hemodynamic disturbance, such as valvular diseases, myocardiopathy and congenital heart
disease, can not be cured by ECP treatment. The increase of returned blood volume during ECP
treatment may even aggravate original hemodynamic disturbance and cause heart failure.
◆Repeated myocardial infarction, diffuse myocardial fibrosis, especially those accompanied with
cardiac insufficiency; during ECP treatment, vein will be pressed, returned blood volume
increased and load on heart heavier, this may cause left heart failure.
◆infection, phlebitis or thrombosis in lower limbs
◆When blood pressure is too high (systolic pressure higher than 170mmHg, diastolic pressure
higher than 100mmHg), patients should use medicines to control it before receiving ECP
treatment.
◆Patients with recurrent extrasystole or tachycardia should also use medicines to control it
before receiving ECP treatment.

3. Features of ECP Comfort GP-2000

This device consists of ECG collect-board, finger pulse data-collect-board + singlechip +
microcomputer and a series of relevant control circuits and units that are specially designed for
ECG monitor. By combining these components with the latest software technology and automatic
control theories, we have developed unique singlechip software and Windows application software

3
to give real-time monitoring and controlling to the system. Therefore, compared with other like
products, this product’s performance has been remarkably promoted.
Main features of ECP Comfort GP-2000:
◆During the treatment, all operations are controlled by the computer, which can simplify the
operating process and increase the compatibility between human and machine.
◆Data of patients’ ECG and finger pulse are collected by modules that are specially designed for
famous factories. This kind of module has high immunity against electromagnetic radiation, and it
boasts excellent performance and stability.
◆Import components of solenoid valve, air compressor, frequency converter, pressure transducer
and so on ensure the operational reliability of the whole machine.
◆All operating switches (including power switches of working power supply and air
compressor), except the main switch on the side of counterpulsation bed, are light touching keys
with only 2 contacts respectively. Compared with traditional power switches and multi-contact
key switches, light touching keys can give operators better hand-feelings and easier operating
process, and make the appearance of this product more beautiful.
◆17-inch liquid crystal display can show not only the real-time waveform and data of ECG and
finger pulse, but also the waveform which indicates changes of air supply pressure in the course of
air-filling and deflation. It can also freeze the waveform for observation without influencing the
treatment.
◆This product can automatically measure and calculate the ratios of peak values and areas of
both systolic and diastolic pressures, and display them at real time, which is conducive to the
analysis and summary of curative effect.
◆Different kinds of automatic safeguarding functions: when abnormal condition happens, such
as tachycardia, bradycardia, extrasystole of patients, early air-filling, late deflation and poor
contact between electrodes caused by maladjustment, or ECG cable and connector loosen by
unexpected pulling, computer software will take measures automatically to prevent patients from
unnecessary discomfort.
◆Emergency stop button and alarming device are set up to enable the patient to stop the
treatment by himself and inform the operator when he feels uncomfortable, which further
safeguards the security of patients.
◆The counterpulsation bed enables patients to lie in semi reclining position, which gives patients
comfortable feelings as well as guaranteed curative effect.
◆Counterpulsation bed and controller are connected by a wire which is formed by putting
several cables in a protective covering. The 36-core gilded aviation cable connector guarantees a
reliable connection between controller and counterpulsation bed.
◆Counterpulsation bed is in split-type structure, which means that it consists of the upper part
and lower part of the bed and can be disassembled. This is convenient to the transport of the
machine and maintenance of certain component inside the bed.
◆Gas bags are designed according to the contour of human body and they work at the same rate.
Each bag is connected to the bed by innocuous and anti-friction hoses and ABS plastic quick
connection. Bags and hoses can be easily connected or taken apart.
◆Springs and noise eliminators inside air compressor bring stability and little noise to the
operation.
◆4-digit LED numeric display can help to show clearly the internal temperatures of the bed on

4
the control panel, which can give operators convenience to know the temperatures of the working
environment of are compressor, solenoid valve and frequency converter.
◆When ECP Comfort GP-2000 has been working long in a room where the temperature is higher
than 25℃, the temperature inside the bed may surpass 40℃. Then the red high-temperature
warning lamp on the control panel will blink to remind the operator lower the temperature or
suspend the operation. If the temperature keeps rising to higher than 45℃, ECP Comfort GP-2000
will automatically stop operating. At this time, the operator should stop the treatment and
accelerate the suction and exhaust fan inside the bed until the temperature drops to normal level,
only after this can the operator turn off the power and restart the operation. (See 2.8(b) of Chapter
4)
◆On control panel, there are controller and display components of frequency converter (or
frequency converter manipulator). On this manipulator, only the button “MODE” can be used by
you, other buttons are locked by passwords before this machine left factory. Press the button
“MODE”, you can see the operating frequency, voltage and electric current of power supply of air
compressor.
◆4-digit LED numeric display can help to show clearly the changing values of air supply
pressure (or the pressure of air tank) on the control panel.
◆Hold down the button “TEST” on control panel, you can start air compressor. Before
connecting the patient by ECG wire, the operator can check the frequency converter, air
compressor, solenoid valve, air aspirator, air tank and gas bags to make sure they are working
well.

installation and facilitating the disassembly.
(2) Lower part of the bed: with solenoid valve and its piping system, air tank, frequency
converter, relay, fuse protector, axial-flow fan and temperature transducer inside. When the
bed is in compressor structure, there are also air compressor and centrifugal fan inside. Two
axial-flow fans (20W each) equipped under the bed are air suction fans that suck the air from
the room to the bed. One centrifugal fan (85W) is equipped inside the bed to exhaust the air
though the pipe. Exhaust fan is the most important component to ensure that ECP Comfort
GP-2000 can work for 8 consecutive hours in normal operating way. When the machine is
operating, do make sure that the exhaust outlet is passable. Because once the outlet is clogged
or the indoor temperature is too high, windings of the centrifugal fan will stop working. In this
case, temperature inside the bed will increase rapidly and become dangerous to the frequency
converter, air compressor and solenoid valve inside. So, besides the high-temperature warning
lamp and automatic stopping at 45℃ as the first-level protection, ECP Comfort GP-2000 is
also equipped with a second-level protection: centrifugal fan circuit breaker. (see picture 7
(5)) When centrifugal fan is over-heated or the fuse is melted because of high current, the
second-level protection will immediately cut the power supply of frequency converter and
stop the bed from working until the fault is removed. There is sound absorbing cotton on the
inner wall of the bed. To maintain or repair the bed, you only need to remove the upper part.
(3) Caster: 4 Φ75 casters (two under the head of the bed with arresting gears). When you need to
move the bed, loose the gears and turn up the feet of the bed to avoid them touching the floor.
(4) Adjustable feet of bed: When the installation of the bed is completed, rotate the screw bolts
clockwise to jack up the bed and lift the casters from the floor, so that the bed can be fixed in
one place.

5.1 Installation Environment and Power Supply Requirements
5. 1 .1 Indoor temperature for best curative effect should be between 20℃ and 25℃, and it can
not be higher than 28℃ or lower than 10℃ (When the temperature is higher than 28℃, the
patient will sweat easily, thus his skin will be injured because of friction, and the machine
can not work normally for 8 consecutive hours.). The relative humidity should be lower
than 70%. So, in order to ensure best curative effect and normal operation, please install air
conditioner in the treatment room.
5.1. 2 No dust, flammable or chemical corrosive gas should exist in treatment room.
5. 1.3 There can not be devices with strong electromagnetic interference or strong radiation around
the room. If these devices can not be move away, please install shielding in the treatment
room.
5.1. 4 The exhaust port of the hot air inside the bed should be place downward out of the wall. The
exhaust pipe should be as short as possible to reduce exhaust resistance. The air can also
be exhausted indoors because it is innocuous.
5. 1.5 Relative humidity: ≤70%.
5. 1.6 Atmospheric pressure: 86kpa~106Kpa
5. 1.7 Power supply: alternating and monophase current 220V、50/60HZ、16A。

Installation Process
When the environment come up to the aforesaid requirements, read carefully the Components in
Chapter 2 before installation.
Move the bed to the installation position (Loose the gears of the two casters under the head of the
bed before you move it, or the casters will be damaged.), press the brake plates down and do not

13
move the bed when it is locked.
Loose the brake plates of the front casters then move the controller to the right of the bed (see

2. Operation Process
(Warnings: Before the operation, do make sure that you have correctly install ECP Comfort
GP-2000! Read carefully the “Indications” and “Contraindications”, and conform strictly to
them! During the treatment, the patient can never be left alone!)
(Attention! Before the operation, please read carefully the introduction of “Components”
and “Operation Interface”.)

2.1 Preparations for Treatment

(Reminder: Before the treatment, remind the patient to urinate.)
2.1.1 Choose gas bags according to the patient’s height and weight.
Size Gluteal region Thighs Lower legs Patient
(cm) Width Length Width Length Width Length Height Weight
Large 100-119 21-24 55-70 30-36 30-43 26 165-185cm 75-100kg
Medium 86-104 20-23 46-60 28-33 30-43 26 152-172cm 50-75kg
Small 82-95 19-22 40-55 24-29 30-43 26 140-164cm 42-62kg
2.1.2 Arrange the patient to the bed and adjust his/her to a comfortable position in which the gas
bags can be easily fixed. (Attention! To avoid scrape during the treatment, we suggest
the patient ware only close-fitting all cotton underclothes and smooth the creases.)
2.1.3 Confirm the positions where electrodes should be put, and clean the skin of those points.
(See the picture below)
Position where red probe connects with electrode: apical region of heart on the left chest
(crossing point of midclavicular line and the fifth rib).
Position where black probe connects with electrode: crossing point of midclavicular line and
the fifth rib on the right chest.
Position where white probe connects with electrode: left manubrium sterni.
(Attention! If any, remove the body hair on these positions, or clean the dirt with ethanol. If
the conductibility of electrodes is weakened with time, ECG wave will be easily
influenced by the respiration and talking of the patient or passive movement of his/her
chest muscles during the treatment. To strengthen the conductibility, moisten a toothpick
with saturated brine and spread the water on or inside the conductive adhesive in the
center of electrodes. Make sure that the water does not drop on the keyboard, probes or
other electric components, lest it should cause leakage or short circuit.)

2.1.4 Pass ECG lead wires through the patient’s

collar, press electrodes on probes, strip off the
protection films on electrodes and stick probes
on their respective position. (Attention! Press the
center of electrodes to make them stick firmly to
and have full contact with skin, which is very
critical to the treatment. ECG lead wires should
be put in through the collar of the patient.)

20
2.1.5 Help the patient tidy up clothes and arrange lead wires in good order.
2.1.6 Wrap the patient with gas bags in sequence of lower legs, thighs and gluteal region. Best
position of the bags: The upper edge of gas bags of lower legs is 2cm down the lower edge of knee
joints; the upper edge of gas bags of thighs sticks firmly to the groin. (Attention! Smooth the
creases on gas bags. Do not distort the corrugated pipes. Rewrap the bags if the patient feels
uncomfortable because of the friction with gas bags during treatment.)
2.1.7 Put the patient’s middle finger into the probe of finger pulse and arrange the wires in good
order.
2.1.8 Cover the patient with blanket and let him/her choose whether to put on the headphone.

screen.)
2.2.4 ECP treatment (Click “ECP Treatment” to enter ECP treatment interface.)
a) Observe “ECG waveform” (1.3.3, Chapter 3) of the patient. If there is glitch or baseline drift,
adjust the positions where red and white probes connect with electrodes, and check whether
the probes and electrodes are well connected. If the waveform is smooth, but its amplitude
is so small that there is no “R wave of ECG wave” (1.3.4, Chapter 3), click “Gain
adjustment button of ECG waveform” (1.3.2, Chapter 3) to adjust the height if R wave until
it appears normally. (Attention! Make sure the R wave can appear normally, otherwise the
treatment can not be carried on with.)
b) Observe the “Finger pulse waveform” (1.3.7, Chapter 3) of the patient. If the maximum
height of waveform is lower than 1/2 the height of waveform zone of finger pulse, click
“Gain adjustment button of finger pulse waveform” (1.3.1, Chapter 3) to adjust the height
until it returns to normal. If the waveform is disordered, adjust the position of probe until the
waveform is ordered. (Attention! Make sure the waveform is ordered, otherwise the D/S
ratio will be wrong.)
c) Click “Button of increasing working pressure set for air tank” (1.3.21, Chapter 3) or
“Button of reducing working pressure set for air tank” (1.3.23, Chapter 3) to adjust the
working pressure of air tank during treatment until “Indication of working pressure
(mmHg) of air tank” (1.3.20, Chapter 3) or “Indication of working pressure (KPa) of air
tank” (1.3.22, Chapter 3) shows the pressure value you want to set at. (Reminder: If the
patient has never received this treatment, we suggest you set the working pressure
(measured in mmHg) at 100mmHg. After a certain period of treatment, increase the
pressure according to the curative effect.)
d) Insert the time (measured in minute) of treatment in “Edit box of setting definite time for
treatment” (1.3.25, Chapter 3) and click “Settings button of definite time for treatment”
(1.3.26, Chapter 3) to set the time. (Reminder: We suggest you set the time at 45 minutes
for one treatment.)
e) Click “Start” button (1.3.36, Chapter 3) to start the treatment, then indicator lamps of gas
bags of the thighs, lower legs and gluteal region (5, 6 and 7 of Picture 2) and indicator
lamp of exhaust (8 of picture 2) will flare regularly; “Starting point I of gas bags filling”
(1.3.5, Chapter 3) and “Starting point D of gas bags exhausting” (1.3.6, Chapter3) appear
in “ECG waveform” (1.3.3, Chapter 3); and “Contraction wave” (1.3.8, Chapter3) and
“Diastolic wave” (1.3.9, Chapter3) appear in “Finger pulse waveform” (1.3.7, Chapter 3).
(They may not appear at the beginning.)
f) When the treatment is in stable state, click “Button of saving the patient’s treatment
information” (1.3.30, Chapter 3) to save the patient’s treatment information such as air
tank pressure, peak ratio and area ratio.
g) If you want to discontinue the treatment, click “Stop” button (1.3.35, Chapter 3).
Otherwise, the treatment won’t stop until it reaches the definite time. (Reminder: It takes
about 15 seconds to stop the treatment, so please wait until indicator lamps of gas bags of
the thighs, lower legs and gluteal region (5, 6 and 7 of Picture 2) and indicator lamp of
exhaust (8 of picture 2) stop flaring, three gas bags stop filling and exhausting, and

22
“Starting point I of gas bags filling” (1.3.5, Chapter 3) and “Starting point D of gas bags
exhausting” (1.3.6, Chapter3) disappear from “ECG waveform” (1.3.3, Chapter 3). If you
want to start the treatment again, click “Start” button (1.3.36, Chapter 3), but the definite
time will still be counted down from 45 minutes. So you have to set the time shorter if
you want to cut it.
During the treatment, if the patient feels uncomfortable, he can press “Emergency stop
button” to stop air compressor and open solenoid valve to exhaust. If you need to restart
the treatment, first reset the emergency button by rotating it to the right. Then the red
“STOP” on the lower part of frequency converter display screen on the control panel will
blink and the air compressor can not be start directly. You should press the power switch
of “Compressor” and cut the power supply of frequency converter. Restart “Compressor”
when the display screen of frequency converter goes out, and the treatment can be started
again. All methods of operation on “ECP Treatment Interface” are the same as above.
h) Click “Exit” button (1.3.34, Chapter 3) to exit treatment interface and go back to main
interface. That’s the end of ECP treatment.

c) Loose gas bags from the patient’s gluteal region, then thighs and finally lower legs.
d) Remove the probes and electrodes from the patient one by one, and clean the cond uctive
adhesive sticking on the patient’s skin. Get lead wires out and put them in good order.
e) Help the patient to get up. (Because the patient may feel powerless in the legs after treatment.)
f) Tidy up all the gas bags and put them in good order.
g) Fold the blanket and put in good order.

Chapter 4 Maintenance and Removal of Common Faults

1. Maintenance
◆ECP Comfort GP-2000 is a high-tech medical device. Please do not refit or dissemble it
without authorization, or assemble it with other devices.
◆In order to keep this product in good working condition, please ask professional

23
craftsmen to maintain or mend it.
◆Regular maintenance is needed to prevent malfunction.
◆Cut all power supply during the maintenance.
1.1 Clean constantly the surface of controller, counterpulsation bed, mattress and gas bags,
(Ordinary cleaning lotion of furniture can not be used on the screen.)
1.2 Maintenance of electrodes
This product is equipped with one-off electrodes. After you use non-one-off electrodes,
wipe conductive adhesive out of electrodes with clean tissues, then hang ECG lead wires
on the hook on the controller. When you clean them, hold the electrodes instead of wires,
otherwise, the wires will be disconnected with electrodes.
1.3 Maintenance of gas bags
Check regularly to see whether there is wear and tear, cracking or crease that may cause air
leakage. If there is, mend it or change it in time. When putting internal bags into external
bags, mind the positions of air vents and smooth the internal bags.
1.4 Maintenance of air compressor
This is a sliding-vane rotary compressor with air-cooled and oil less engine. It should be kept
far away from oil, grease and water.
1.4.1 Clean the core of air-filter (in the outer cover) regularly according to the utilization ratio of
compressor and the cleanliness of its working environment. Blow the dust out or wash the
filter when the dust can not be blown away. (It should be carried out by professional
craftsmen.)
1.4.2 When cleaning the core of air filter, use compressed air to clean the internal part of air
compressor.
1.4.3 Rotary sliding-vane of compressor will be worn because of the friction between it and the
inner wall of cylinder. So its breadth should be checked every year or after every 3000
working hours. If 24 mm of its breadth is worn, the sliding-vane should be changed.
When you need to check the vane, first detach the outer cover and the cover of cylinder, then
check is breadth with a vernier caliper. Bef1ore you reassemble it, clean the internal part of
cylinder with compressed air. Pay attention to the direction of sliding-vane and firmly joint
the seal face sliding-vane to the inner wall of cylinder. (Attention! Lubricating oil or grease
mustn’t be smeared on sliding-vane or inner wall of cylinder.) (All these should be
operated by professional craftsmen.)
1.5 Maintenance of solenoid valve (Normally it doesn’t need to be maintained within 3 to 5 years
unless it does work well.)
a) Check whether the spring is eccentrically worn. If it is, adjust the shape of spring tip to change
the working point. Change the spring, if the eccentric ware is severe or part of the spring is
broken. Check whether the valve cartridge is eccentrically worn. If it is, adjust its fitting
position.
b) Check whether the plastic cushion blocking of valve cartridge is out of shape or broken. If it
is, change it.
1.6 Cleaning and sterilization of components which has contact with the patient.
a) External coverings of gas bags should be sterilized by ultraviolet radiation for no less than 45
minutes every day.
b) One-off electrodes can one be used once.

24
2. Common Faults and Methods of Fault Removal
2.1 When you have turned off the “Main Power Switch”, no power is supplied for the controller,
and temperature inside the bed and working pressure are not shown in control panel, please
check whether the round 36-core cable connector socket on the right side of the controller is
well connected. If it is, dissemble the upper part of counterpulsation bed to check whether the
2A fuse tube is melted. If it is, change it. If not, check whether the 2A fuse tube of main power
is melted. (If the power supply is unstable, check whether the plug and electric outlet are well
connected with each other.)
2.2 Press “Power” button on control panel, then the indicator lamp of power supply is on, but if
the fan inside the controller does not work and the computer can not be started, it means that
the working power is not connected. Please check whether the binding belt of J8 relay inside
the bed is loose, whether the relay is unplugged, or whether the fuse tube in 10A fuse holder
is melted. If it is, tighten the belt, plug the relay or change 10A fuse tube.
2.3 Press “Power” button on control panel, then the indicator lamp of power supply is on. Then
press “Compressor” button on control panel, the indicator of compressor is on, but no figure
appears on frequency converter displayer and fan blower inside the bed does not work, which
means on power is supplied for frequency converter and fan blower. Please check whether J7
and J9 relays inside the bed are working normally, and whether the fuse labeled 10A under
J7, J8 and J9 relays is melted.
2.4 If there is no ECG wave or large interference wave in ECG waveform, please check:
a) whether ECG lead wires and electrodes are well connected;
b) whether electrodes have full contact with the patient’s skin, whether the conductibility of
electrodes is good (see 2.1.3);
c) whether electrodes are in right positions;
d) or whether ECG lead wires are well connected with the socket.
2.5 During the treatment, if one or all gas bags are not filled or exhausting, please check:
a) whether corresponding indicator lamps on control panel are flaring. If they are, check
whether 36-core cable connector is well connected.
b) If they are not flaring, please check whether their corresponding gas filling buttons on control
panel are on or off.
2.6 During the treatment, one or all gas bags are not fully bulged.
a) If one of the gas bags is not bulged, please check whether this gas bag is well connected with
corrugated pipes in two ends? Whether the internal gas bag leaks? If yes, screw the connector
or mend or change the internal bag.
If the fault is not removed yet, check whether the onflow solenoid valve is not opened on
time or large enough because of clamping stagnation of valve cartridge, or whether there is
leakage caused by unsealed exhaust solenoid valve.
b) If all gas bags are not bulged, please check: whether the compressor sounds uninterrupted and
normal; whether the screw-type joint of air outlet is loose; whether the joints of air tank and
connectors are separated; or whether there is leakage in onflow joint or screw-type joint of air
inlet.
c) If the rotating speed of frequency converter rises abnormally, and working pressures of air
tank and gas bags are very high, but the values of pressures on control panel are 0 or very

25
low, it is because the manometric tube of pressure transducer is loose, or blockage caused by
sharp turn. At this time, you must immediately cut off the air compressor, and then reconnect
the manometric tube.
2.7 During the treatment, gas bags can not exhaust freely.
a) If all gas bags can not exhaust freely, please check the ECG waveform to see whether starting
point if gas bags exhausting if higher than the peak of P wave and near to R wave. If it is, click
button of advancing exhausting point to lower it to be near the peak of P wave.
b) If only one gas bag can not exhaust freely, check whether the exhaust solenoid valve of the gas
bag is closed or not opened large enough, whether there is slaving voltage for this solenoid
valve, or whether the wiring contact is loose, or after shutting down the computer, check
whether the coil of solenoid valve is broken.
2.8 Overheat protection: 3 groups of gas bags exhaust at the same time without any more air
filling, air compressor stops working, the temperature is higher than 45℃, data disappears
from the screen and “No Signal” appears on it. At this time, please check:
a) whether exhaust outlet of counterpulsation bed is blocked, or whether the exhaust duct is
bended.
b) whether the indoor temperature is too high.
Attention: When the overheat protection starts, don’t start the computer immediately. First
cut off the computer, air compressor and working power supply, then wait until the
temperature inside the bed returns to normal. Or cut off working power supply for 10
seconds and restart it and air compressor to let the suction and exhaust fans continue
working to accelerate the cooling. Or just let the operation continue so that the suction and
exhaust fans can also work, then turn off and restart the computer.
2.9 If power supply of frequency converter is suddenly cut off, air compressor and centrifugal
fan (exhaust fan) stop working, and air compressor can not be restarted, please check:
a)whether power supply of centrifugal fan (exhaust fan) is cut because of overheat self-
protection. If it is, see the same reasons in 2.8-a and b;
b) whether the fuse tube of centrifugal fan (exhaust fan) is melted (10A, see 2.3);
c) whether J7 and J9 relays are broken.
2.10 Lightness of the monitor is too low.
Follow the instructions in manual of the monitor to adjust the lightness.
